Disney Visa?

If you use a credit card, why not use a disney credit card. For every hundred you spend you get one disney dollar. That doesn't sound like much but boy do they add up. I just went to Wal Mart and spent $100....i put it on my disney visa and came home, logged on to chase then used my debit card to pay that 100 off. For my 100 dollars worth of groceries, I can almost buy 1/2 a bottle of water! :rotfl2: I have been doing this for almost a year and I now have 180 disney dollars to use at disney world next month.

well - it depends on how you look at it.
We charge almost everything lately [car insurance, house insurance, as many utilities as we can] and pay it off immediately.
We earned $365 since our last Disney trip for this upcoming one.

And as much as I like that, though, I will admit that DH and I are credit-card shopping. The $365 at Disney will cover our meals, but if we can find a card with, say 1.5% something-else-back, well, we'd switch. =D

oh - all our gas goes on Discover with 5% off the gas prices. =D

I like the perk of having 6 month interest free to pay off my Disney vacation. It makes it almost painless. I also was able to book the free dining offer before the general public. I'm now trying to embrace using it to pay everything else like the others above.

We use the reward dollars every trip to WDW and that really helps out ($200-$300 range). :thumbsup2 Sometimes you'll also get special discounts in other ways but not so much anymore. Years ago we saved over $400 on our resort:wizard: It all depends on how you want your rewards to come in....airline tickets, gas, or Disney. Really a personal decision based on your usage.

We put everything on the Disney Visa to earn points. I had some surgery and followup therapy, and we charged all of that. Those medical bills certainly racked up the Disney dollar points! Being able to pay for our next Poly concierge stay with these points made the ordeal worth it - Ha.

Oh yes, I also tried to put the down payment for my car on the Disney Visa. I asked the agnecy to credit my trade in to my Visa and then use that as the down payment. Alas, charging the down payment would be using a loan to secure a loan, and I couldn't do it, Too bad. Could have paid for another visit. :cool1:

I tried to buy my DH a used car with my disney visa!!! We had the cash to pay for it in the checking account, but I wanted the disney dollars. The dealership wouldn't do it because they said it costs them money to use credit cards! Darn.....it would have been nice to have that many disney dollars! :)

My DH is an executive at Citicards and he says that theyoffer terrible benefits! Only 1 point per dollar spent is not that good! 1% can be beat by almost any other credit card! (And I am not promoting Citi versus any other card)! Actually, the American Express though Costco is the best bet right now...5% on gas, 3% dining out, and 2% on travel, 1% on everything else! That is pretty awesome! We pay off our credit cards every month, so I am not sure about APR or anything, but it has great benefits!
Also, hte Citi Dividend card 2% gas, grocery, drugs and 1% everything else...cap of $300 per year...
Just chiming in with some stats! I actually have the Disney Visa, but he does notlike me charging too much on it...he said that the money we save by using the AMEX card can easly be ear marked for Disney and used there! FYI

10% off at downtoen disney stores is about the onlt thing we use it for.

We are aboe to get between $150 and $225 reward dollars each year that we use for our january trip. It buys a nice dinner and a few keepsakes.

You can also get a discount on some of the park tours, we just got 20% off Keys to the Kingdom at MK. Last year we got a discount for the Segway at Epcot.

I like it, but I agree that the perks are not that great and the rewards are not that high. Though I love all things Disney, I would rather be able to spend my rewards on what I want instead of what Disney/Chase tells me I have to spend it on....which is putting more money in their pockets. ;)

There are perks which are listed at chase.com/disney.
10% off shopping at DTD, Free picture at EPCOT & More

I also was able to book the free dining offer before the general public.

Flametamr - I'm a Disney Visa cardholder too, but I never received any notification from Disney or Chase this year when they made the Free Dining Offer available to cardmembers only, before the general public. I anticipated the announcement was coming in early April, like last year, so I watched daily for the news on the AllEars website. That's the only way I knew about it.
I do receive numerous other offers from Disney Chase via snailmail and email - but just not the Free Dining Offer. Do you recall how and from whom you found out about the Free Dining for Cardmembers only?

Thanks! :flower3:

Agreed. While I have a Disney Visa, there are several other cards with MUCH BETTER rewards than this has. I have a Starwood AMEX that has some of the best rewards going and the typical 1 point per dollar return. While I prefer Disney Resorts, I'll take a free stay at the Swan or Dolphin.

The Disney Visa perks are OK but not great and the vacation codes go public a week or 2 after sent to cardholders.

Only 1 point per dollar spent is not that good!

Actually, Disney Visa is 1% of your dollars spent not 1 point per dollar. You get .01 points per dollar spent.

The annual max is, I think 750 reward points. That would require $75,000 in charges to the card. $750 Disney Rewrd Dollars does not even pay for my park tickets (fam of 4). That same $75k on my Starwood AMEX gets me 5 nights at a Cat 4 hotel, which is what the Dolphin and Swan are, plus 50k airline miles on one of their air partners. :cool1: Hmm, even in the value season that would cost more than the $750 offered by Disney and Chase fromusing their card.:sad2:

Many cards give a better reward than Disney Visa towards covering a trip to WDW.

easier way of thinking is it is one disney dollar for every one hundred dollars charged to the visa

I only go crazy with it when I KNOW I am planning a vaca (like right now :cool1: ) I do what one of the previous posters said -- I use it for little things and then run home and pay it right off (so it's not like it's even there).

I could use a better card (value wise) but I know me, that money would NEVER go towards Disney. I would find other ways to use it. This way, it's my little something special. I don't have much on there just enough for a treat. Last time, it was (I had JUST got the card about 2 months before the trip) PAL Mickey. It was like he was free to me and this time I should have about $200. That is going toward photo pass for 2 families (we are going to share) and (hopefully) a nice frame for each of us to put our free 5x7 that we get for being card holders. If there is anything extra we are going too buy some prints while we are there.

It's got a really high interest rate though so make sure you pay it off every month.

does anyone know if you transfer a balance from another card do you still earn the dollars?

does anyone know if you transfer a balance from another card do you still earn the dollars?

No, you don't. From the Disney Rewards FAQ page:

Q: Do I earn 1% on everything I buy with my Disney Rewards® Visa® Card?
A: You will earn 1% in Disney Dream Reward Dollars on everyday Disney Rewards Visa Card purchases. You do not earn rewards on balance transfers or convenience check purchases.

Can someone tell me how I go about receiving my Disney dollars so I can bring them on my upcoming trip? I think I only have about 65, but that is a few souveniers for my kiddos:) I just have no idea how to "cash them in". Thanks!!!
