I was reading about all the advantages and discounts as a Disney Visa cardholder. Then it goes on to list all the shops and places and restaurants and where you can't use it. A very lengthy list too... Then I got lost in all the fine print and too many words. So for those of you with a Disney visa account is it really an advantage and get you any real saving over using your regular bank issued credit card? Are there room discounts for value resorts? We stay in value resorts, eat counter service, and are on a budget so the deluxe resorts, the signature meals, the behind the scenes tours, and other luxuries aren't happening even with a discount. So after getting lost in all the terms and conditions and rules, tell me is there any real savings by using the Disney card?

The list of where you can't use it doesn't mean they won't accept the card, they do, you just don't get a discount. Opps if I worded it wrong the first time.

We've had the Disney Visa card for 4 years and I love it. You get $1 Disney Dollar for every dollar you spend.... so we use it for our bills (then pay it right off) . The Disney Dollars add up quickly too ! Then you just transfer your Disney Dollars to a reward card. You can then use this in the parks, to pay for your vacation, etc. You really can use the reward card just about anywhere. and if you have anything left on the card, you can use it at Disney.com. You also get a 10% discount in the shops (or online) when you spend $50 or more..... so that's a good benefit too.

Also, we used our rewards card last year for souvenirs and snacks....we didn't come across any place in the park that didn't take it.

We like it because the points don't expire fast.... it's like 5 years (or something like that) before points drop off. So you have a good amount of time to "save up points". :thumbsup2

Disney Visa card holders also get some of the deals before they're released to the public. It could be room discounts, free dining, etc. But generally, you'll get an email with the deal about 2-3 weeks before it's released to the public. So that's a benefit.

Really, it's a credit card like any other one. We don't use credit cards on a daily basis, so we like this one because we can use it for our normal expenses (like utilities) and get the points. You have to determine if it's good for your situation. :goodvibes

We got to buy tickets to see Mary Poppins when it came to town. We got to buy them before even the presale for the box office. We ended up getting amazing seats (there might have even been a discount on the tickets I'm not sure) and that alone was worth having the card.

We've done the free Disney Visa Character Meet and Greet at Epcot a bunch of times too. We've used it for discounts on tours which I know you said you don't do, but that is one of the things that makes it worth it to us.

Plus the points have to be spent at Disney so DH can't try and convince me to use them somewhere else!

We get our reward card before each trip (or sometimes at Downtown Disney if our statement closes during our trip) and then we just charge everything to the room and use it to pay off the room charge (or usually partially pay it!!). That way we don't worry about where you can use the rewards card.

We love our Disney Visa.

the last time i went they were giving you 10% off any purchase over $50 in the gift shops. the first year it was only the world of disney which stunk, but last year having that discount elsewhere was great. my mum and i batched our souvenirs into two transactions to get the discount, including one large one at the hotel so we didn't have to lug the stuff far. the previous year we had done little purchases in various places. i had used the points i had on my reward card towards the trip balance before i left. the leftover ones i had put on a reward card and used it for photopass when i got back as i had a discount code from MNSSHP.
