Disney Visa Rewards?

I am new to all of this, so bear with me. I ordered my Disney Visa when it first came out and have been saving up all my Disney rewards for our vacation later this year. I have a room only AAA discounted ressie that I made myself over the phone right now, but may change it into a package through AAA so that we can add the MYW Dining package.

Question about how to use my Disney rewards to pay for the vacation. I initially thought I would transfer all my rewards and use them to pay towards our resort costs ( that way I could justify our 1st ever stay at a deluxe: Poly (yeah!). If I do not change to a package, can I use the rewards card or cards to pay at check in?

What happens if I turn it into a package? I'm assuming that then i would be paying AAA directly and wouldn't be able to use the rewards card to pay for the package. Is this correct? If I got a package almost everything would be included and paid for before our trip. So can I use the rewards cards anywhere at Disney World ( ie restaurants, stores, etc. ? )

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I've learned so much from you people already. Thank you.

Welcome to the DIS, DJMommy!

Sounds like your thoughts are right on the money. If you keep it as a room only that you booked directly through Disney, you can use your rewards card at check in to pay for it (or even call in advance if you'd like).

If you book a package through AAA, you can not use your rewards card to pay them. But you can use your rewards card for meals, souvenirs, and pretty much anything else you want down at WDW.

Have a great stay at the Poly! It's a great resort :)

Hi. I'm just curious here... If they book a package through Disney with the dining add on; can they use the rewards to pay for a portion of the package? I understand that it must be paid 45 days prior to check in. So could they call and give Disney the reward information over the phone like they would a credit card? And if they used a TA, I assume the TA could post the reward dollars also....

It takes alot of spending to accumulate any substantial award dollars and it seems to me that it would be very helpful if you could apply it to disney packages.

Fam4jc, if you book a package through Disney, yes, you can use your rewards card towards the cost. My friend did just that for our October trip--she just called Disney, and applied her rewards dollars to the bill.

I'm not sure if the TA can do it or not.

We always charge our room to the Visa card to get more points. Then we charge everything to the room, food, souveniers, tickets, etc. Then at the end of the trip I give them my Visa Rewards card then pay the difference again with the credit card. Works out great.

We have used our rewards card for dining, at stores at the resorts and parks. They seem to swipe it like a credit card and can tell you how many reward points are left, too. With this in mind, I would think that they could do the same with the balance of your payment for your resort by using your reward points. You can use it pretty much anywhere in the parks and resorts. Have a wonderful time!

Thank you for your replies. I will see if I can use it toward my package, if not, I'm sure we will be spending plenty of money down there anyway.

just a question about the disney rewards card. we are going in june. how soon should i order the card? thanks

flamom- I ordered mine today for my April trip and it said it would be a week getting here. The last time I ordered one I think it got here sooner then that. I try and order a month before and transfer all but $10 to the rewards card. Then the day before I leave I call and transfer whatever I've accumulated between ordering the card and going. I leave the $10 on there so that I will have the minimum $10 to transfer in case I only earn less then $10 in that month's time. For example - I've earned $222 so I transfered $202 today. If I only earn $7 this month I'll transfer $17 the day before my trip. (But I expect to do a lot better since I've got 3 flights and my Mary Kay business orders on there!)
