Disney Visa : Reward Card redemption ?

We will be visiting DL in December. I currently 200 dollars in reward points to redeem for our vacation. Being a new member I'm not sure exactly how it all works, but I do know that I need to request a rewards redemption card via mail for the first use. When I do this how far in advance should I redeem my points to insure we have them prior to our vacation in December?
Also I know you can redeem them at the parks, would it be easier to do it this way?
Last, once reward points are put onto the redemption card, how long before they expire?

I think it typcially takes a couple of weeks to get the card, but I'd allow a few more to be safe.

Thanks! Also once I get the card, any additional points that I add to the card via the chase website...will those show up right away or is there a waiting period for that too?

Once you have the card you can transfer points via phone or internet instantly. It took 3 weeks to get our card this year. They do expire so don't transfer more than you think you will use.

You can, but it's just one more thing to mess with with a 2 year old and 11 year old ready to hit the parks

Am I remembering correctly that you can buy Disney Gift Cards with the reward card?

You can also pick up a card at Guest Services at DTD.

If time allows you to, just go to the desk and ask for a card.

The card will have an 800 # to call and you can choose how much you want transfered, and then the amount is avaliable in about 5 mins.

Unless you don't currently have at least 10 points, you could have also ordered the card with a small number of points on it (10 is the min I believe) and then added more points online to the card once your last set of points became available. I prefer to do it all ahead of time so that there are fewer tasks to be done in wdw!
