Disney Visa question

Now here's another wrench to throw at the monkey: I've heard that you can get 10% off by just SHOWING your card (after the obligatory $50) without having to put your purchase on the card - true or false?

As of this statement we have 803, accumulated over roughly 20 mos. We pay it off in full every month and put everything on it. In reality we could do a 1% cash back but the Disney card is fun and has perks like early booking for specials and cute designs (I have Tinkerbell).

We had a child in college and a wedding to pay for so that helped. The 803 does not include the points we'll get when we pay off our huge package on April 21. We'll use those points plus what we've earned after we apply the 803 to our package to buy breakfast. We are on the dining plan so we are covered for food except tips.

We have never paid $1 in finance fees. That's thanks to Dh, he's vigilant about those things.

Everytime I use my card it's a little bit of Disney spirit and everyone comments on the picture!

:)

Don't mean to hijack the thread BUT...can anyone help me remember where we can take our Disney Visa on property to get our rewards card?

Don't I remember hearing you can do that on property? We arrive next Thursday afternoon and I haven't requested the rewards card yet!

TIA!

I could definately see that being possible. We pay for everything on that card, and I pay it down every week or two so we don't have any finance charges. I've only had the card for one billing cycle, and we have $35 so far!

in Downtown Disney that will do this I read on another thread. There's another location but I can't remember now, it was a recent thread. They could transfer for you right away according to that poster.

We have earned upwards of $50 per month for the last couple of years... I put all my business expenses on it so it adds up fast... then just pay it off at the end of the month.

We put nearly everything on our Disney Visa and pay it every month instead of paying for things at the time of purchase. This practice has "rewarded" us with between $400-$500 reward dollars a year. You have to have at least $20 to start a new card or $10 to transfer on a current card. We take our "reward" card with us to WDW and hardly spend any of our "own" money if you will. If you use the card to your advantage (which does take practice and some creative budgeting) it does work!!

If you want to save $$ for Disney, it's probably better to use a card that earns cash back rather than the Dinsey Visa's $1 per $100 spent. That said, I've had my Disney Visa for almost 4 months and have $60 in rewards. I'm using it to pay for DD's math tutoring ($6,000...0% interest for 12 months). I wanted the card for the park perks anyway but it won't become my every-day card. It takes too long to accumulate rewards.

Our 2006 trip, I had $600 saved in one year to spend & then 13 months later, I had $500 to spend. Just don't carry a balance at all. And use the card to pay for anything Disney & you get double reward dollars. We definitely didn't have to spend $50,000 though. More like half of that.

Make sure you pay this card off every month. Chase is starting to raise the interest rate. A friend at work went from the intro rate of 0 % right up to 20%. He had a $5000 limit with a balance of $1100, never late. With me I had the 0% for 18 months then it went to 12% and 3 months later it went to 25%. I never missed a payment and would pay it off except the month before the 25%. I paid off the card and cancelled it. It just wasn't worth it to me to have that card.

I copied this from the rewards site:

Missed the chance to order a Disney Rewards® Card before your trip?
If you have at least 20 Disney Dream Reward Dollars® in your account, you can get a Disney Rewards Card issued at these guest relations areas:

* Downtown Disney® Marketplace
* Downtown Disney® Westside

Be sure to bring your Disney Rewards Visa Card and a valid photo I.D.

Thanks for the info on where to get the rewards cards onsite. Now I just have to make sure we take the darn thing!

Question..if you pay the balance of your trip with the card is that considered "anything Disney?" and would I be entitled to get double points? I just got the card about a month ago and I got 12 months at 0% so we are using it for everything but still paying it off..we are going in August and would like to save about $250.00 which is my goal....I just charge the bills I can and then make a payment the same day for the total I charged out of my checking...it's pretty easy.

DizzDoll-
Didn't see where your question was answered. But it is TRUE! In October, I was able to just show my rewards card, the CM took off 10%, and then she told me I could pay anyway I'd like (cash, other cc, room charge, whatever). You do have to spend at least $50.

I was just thinking that if I use my card for EVERYTHING (groceries, house payments, car payments, utilities etc) that I could possibly have almost and extra $500 saved before we go on our trip! Can you use your Disney Visa for things like house payments, car payments and utilities?

It seems that while a lot of people use their Disney Visa for this-and-that, they missed the original spirit of your post.

I would imagine certain things like mortgages and car payments cannot be paid-for with a Disney (or any other Visa/MC) card, which negates your math, somewhat (I would imagine from a legal standpoint, it would be too risky for the consumer to use a credit product to make monthly payments on things which are otherwise financed).

However, if the merchant accepts major credit cards (good examples are most shopping places, gas stations, some utilities, cell phone companies and even fast food), you're in!

I feel really stupid for asking because I feel like I should know this, but where do you find all the info for the perks of the Disney Visa. Like what gives extra points, ect.. Please help. I just recieved my card for our upcoming trip and want to make sure I take advantage of it's offerings!! Thanks a bunch!!

that's not necessarily true... if you use it for disney, and during the Christmas season etc, they had like 5x's the rewards on gas, and different things. I see what you're saying, but I've had almost $500 in rewards at one time and definitely didn't put 50k on that card ;)

That's good!!!

OF COURSE!!!!!:banana: We do & when you come back from your trip, you will have like 40 reward dollars towards your next trip! Plus, Disney Visa gives you 6 mos at 0% to pay off your trip as well. I use my visa to pay for the trip, then I bring the reward card to Disneyworld & give it to the CM at check in. Then all my charges to the room are paid off w/my reward dollars. It's like free food & merchandise!!!:woohoo:
