Disney Visa OBC question

I know this has changed since our last DCL cruise so that now it is a "beverage" credit. I have searched and can't seem to find an adequate answer to my question. Will a bottled water package purchased on board count as a beverage? We aren't big drinkers--maybe one or two per cruise (especially when soda is included).

I have also seen some reports say that it was still just treated as a general nonrefundable OBC on their account even after the switch to being a "beverage" credit. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

It does not count towards bottled water. It does count towards coffee in the Cove Cafe though, that's where we spent the majority of our credit. also you have to tell Disney to add it to your account before you go. Ours wasn't added, I inquired at guest services and after some checking they added it for me.

Is it still for $50?

Do I have to contact Disney Visa to have it added?

We cruised Oct '15, Nov '15, and June '16 and all 3 times the credit was just a stateroom credit. In the end, it was just deducted from my account as a straight 50.00. I was never told that it had to be beverages even though on paperwork it states that. I doubt it could be an error 3 times. I think our highest drink total for all 3 cruises was under 20.00.

It is definitely a beverage credit and they only apply it to beverages. :(
If you do not use it all, you loose it. Even if you have two rooms and two beverage credits and charge more than $50 in beverages on one room and less than $50 on the other room, they will not combine them. You loose it on the room where you did not use it. :crazy2: Yes happened to us.

This is the same conflicting info I've gotten trying to search for an answer on my own! Anyone else have any personal experience with a low drink tab and the OBC still being used?

When you say beverages, does that include wine and mixed drinks? Since there soda is free, there isn't much else to use it on otherwise. Maybe hot chocolate for my daughter (if they have that). :confused3

Hot chocolate from the coffee bar counts as beverage. It's also better than that the packet of mix and hot water you get in other places.

We don't drink alcohol (due to medical reasons). If prices onboard are anything like prices in my town, a few mocktails ($7 each) and some premium hot cocoa will burn through the credit in no time.

Thanks. I didn't think about mocktails!

Any beverages that you order from a bar/lounge or servers poolside or in the theaters count. Soda in a bar/theater have a cost. Hot chocolate in a bar/theater have a cost. Hot chocolate/soda at the poolside drink station = no cost.

FYI: This is the response I got from the Disney Visa rep:

Our records show you made a purchase with Disney Cruise
Line® using your Disney?s Visa Card. You will receive a
$50 Onboard Credit to use toward shopping, dining, spa
treatments
and more during your cruise when you book with
your Disney?s Visa Card and ask for booking code DCC.

Not sure if DCL will apply it as they state we can, but it looks like it is just a basic OBC.

Hmmm....maybe it's changed again. I know that the perk can be switched out as the VISA people feel it will do them the most good.

Wonder if VISA reps have current information or are just reading from an (old) script (much like DCL CMs).

The Disney Visa website currently says this:
Receive a $50 onboard credit for beverages when you pay for your Disney Cruise Linevacation in full with your Disney Visa® Card and mention this offer. Call 1-800-257-2024or your travel agent to book a Disney Cruise Line vacation and ask for booking code DCC. Plan a Disney cruise.

This was our experience in June, it definitely said beverage credit on our statement.

And my TA just confirmed that that is what she has understood for the past year or so -- that it is a beverage credit, although she doesn't believe they track beverage purchases but just apply it to your account. Who knows -- but as always, as a Disney CM a question and get a different answer!

We returned 2 weeks ago (I think) and used none of our OBC drink credit. It was clearly $50 that was not credited toward any other costs (gratuities and purchases). So for us it was a "lose it" proposition (which I knew it would be, we were in concierge and I don't drink and DH has one glass a wine/night which is provided in the lounge). Ah well...

It is labeled on your folio as a "$50 Non-Refundable Beverage OBC.". Since I don't really drink I tried to be creative and came home with 3 of the 22 oz. souvenir refillable beer mugs. My Palo additional gratuity was also applied to it, which was an added bonus since I had the beverage credit on each of my B2B cruises and ate at Palo on both legs. From what I can tell, it gets applied to locations where you can order beverages. There's no way of knowing if it was used toward a beverage. I did have leftover credit on both cruises and lost whatever was not used.
