So, we are planning on going the last week of September and are keeping our fingers crossed for FD. I plan to book soon so that I can make my 180+10 reservations. I know in the past most all discounts are released to Visa holders first and then a few days later to the public. So do I need to make my first deposit with the visa in order to be able to apply the discount when it is available? Or when I call to apply the discount can I just make a payment with the Visa? Also does the whole trip need to be paid for with the Visa? Thanks for your help!!

If you have an existing reservation, and you call to try to get the free dining offer, if it releases.... It is my understanding that they are technically booking you a new reservation. You will have to put a new deposit of $200 down with your visa. Your initial deposit would be refunded. They don't "add" the offer to your existing reservation. After the $200 deposit with your Visa card, you may pay the rest anyway you'd like.

I don't know that this is true. I had an existing ressie and had put my deposit down with my disney visa. When free dining came out and was offered to visa cardholders first, I just called and had it added to my ressie since my room class was part of the deal AND they had rooms at that resort available.

I suppose it changes based on the situation then? I believe the last time we had an existing reservation and called for Free Dining (also Visa early release) we put another deposit, and had the previous one refunded. I don't believe our reservation had to change any either, as far as room type and resort. All was the same except getting the dining. The initial deposit was with the Disney Visa also.

A dining plan can only be added to a package reservation. It cannot be added to a room only reservation. If you have a room only reservation and a free dining offer comes out, you will have to cancel the room only res and the deposit will be refunded and a new package reservation with a $200 deposit will be required. It sounds like the room category and resort you booked for the room only res was included in the FD offer so you were able to book the same room category and resort for the FD offer, but it was a new package reservation. For the offers Visa cardholders were able to book a few days in advance, they were supposed to use the Visa for the deposit. The balance could be paid with a different credit card.

We had a package. We have never booked a room only offer. Interesting that we had to do it all.....guess this next time, if they offer it, I will definitely make sure to see about them just adding it, and not having to go through all of that. They refunded the initial deposit pretty quick, so it didn't really matter, but still....would rather not have to do all that. It's not the first time I've gotten a cast member that did things a little different than normal.

All of the other times, we booked after dining released, so we didn't have an existing reservation.

Yes, technically they are checking for a discount like it's a new reservation. The discounted rooms come out of a pool, and it doesn't matter if you're ore booked. But if they add it to an existing res, they're still modifying the existing reservation.

If you made the initial deposit with a DV you shouldn't have to make a new one. If you didn't, they'll require a new $200 deposit. I think there was one discount where they didn't require the deposit, but still verified the full card number. All DVs start with the same 4 or 5 numbers. Nothing else needs to be paid on the DV.
