Disney vacation rant

I don't understand why you are upset unless you suspect that your DH is actually paying for the trip. If that's the case and you're already seperated and you took a trip without him then I doubt that he'll be open to your opinion that he shouldn't travel with this family.

Focus on your own problems. Don't stress about others problems.

I agree with this 100%. Also having medicaid does not mean you cannot take trips and buy nice things. If you look at the standards for medicaid I am sure they are pretty high for a family of 3. My children are on medicaid and I work everyday. I do not have to prove that I cannot afford health insurance monthly I have to just prove that I make a certain amount of money every 6 months which is pretty high for my family of 5. DH and myself both have our own insurance policy through my employer but economically it is just more cost effective for us to have them on medicaid until DH get employment. We are going on a Disney cruise March 2011 and their is nothing illegal about that. Also, if dd receives a monthly check as long as their income falls within those guidelines they can continue to receive their check and use it for what ever they would like. I think you are probably just upset that dh is going to WDW with them instead of you and to be honest I would be upset aboout that also. But that is dh fault not the inlaws and defianately not their dd.

Hey sorry but if you're accepting Medicaid benefits a Disney cruise is a little ridiculous..not illegal but ridiculous. You can rationalize it however you want but it is OUR taxpayer money paying for insurance for YOUR kids. It's economically more cost effective for you...not for the rest of us. Save the money from the Disney cruise and pay for your kids healthcare.

I just have many :grouphug: for you and two "advices".

First cut all ties with that family and second I would tell my husband he could pack ALL his suitcases and go live with them after the vacation.

This! I don't think I would even let him stay until the trip.

I pay taxes, and I have paid taxes since I was 16. I am not going to deprive my children to suit other people. There is nothing unethical about me going on a disney cruise and actually now that disney is having free dining May 2011 I am going to book that today also. My childrens medicaid is temporary and they have been on it about a year. As I stated before I work everyday so yes they are not just your tax dollars but mine also. Oh yeah, I am also a homeowner therfore I pay even more taxes. Should I not be able to own a home since my children are medicaid? What about a late model car? Keep in mind as I stated before I work everyday.

Well OP, I feel for you but I guess you have to try to let it go. You are right to feel this way but some people just never learn responsibility. I would definitely stop paying for their storage facility and if anyone squawks, politely remind them about the deluxe vacation they are taking, indicating that clearly they can now afford the storage fees and congratulate them on their good fortune. I, personally, would be sorely tempted to also send them a bill for half of your MIL's funeral expenses but that would be petty and yield nothing.

Wow, you can afford health care for your kids but you choose to let the govt pick up the tab so now you can afford a cruise. Nice.

WOW, Jaw dropping doesn't even begin to cover my reaction. WTH? It reminds me slightly of my friend that couldn't afford health care for her kids but could take 2 10 day trips to vegas a year without the kids. She worked everyday too just like the PP. Only she worked a job that required her to report her income and she under reported. Fast forward to her dd's getting in a tragic accident. Not her fault but they racked up mega bills and are now going BK and she admits online that she is hiding money in other accounts to avoid paying. Even that pales in comparison to someone figuring out how to afford a cruise on a pricy line for a family of 5 but not figuring out how to pay insurance for those same kids.

UNREAL!

You actually continue to demonstrate how people abuse the system. Keep booking vacations..you are a role model for your children. The fact that you believe there is nothing unethical about what you are doing shows how ignorant you really are.

I work everyday too. And I pay taxes. I would love to let the state pay for my kids health insurance. Then I could take a disney cruise too. I pay for our health insurance instead. Its over $9000 a year. Im either too stupid or have too much integrity to game the system. I cant decide which.

I don't think that missing a Disney cruise or Disney vacation is depriving your children!!! As far as Medicaid, you are taking advantage of opportunities given to you, right?;)

I know a family where both parents work, have healthcare available to them, but have their children on the CHIP program (State Funded). They took a 2 week vacation to Hawaii this year, and have a week at Aruba and a 7 day cruise booked for next year. If I could pocket the 600+ extra per month that I pay for health care (family rate vs couple rate), we could take that cruise AND disney vacation too!

Oh, I PAY taxes and work EVERYDAY too.

Sorry OP I am not going to hijack your thread, this is about you not me so this will be my last response. Ignorance would be you thinking because a person is on any type of goverment assistance that they are not entitled to the "luxeries" of life. So because my children receive medicaid I should live in a run down rental property, no internet service, no car and I guess I should get foodstamps also (which I do not receive). You would be surprised at the people that are on medicaid or other state medical programs. We have a state program here that you can make 50,000 depending on how many is in your household and still have goverment paid insurance or insurance at a very good disounted rate. Look it up it is called PeachCare for kids. So should those people also not be entitled to the "luxeries" for getting free or discounted insurance for their children. My purpose for sharing this was not to debate with anyone on the boards because it is what it is, but I want the OP and I guess you also to know that because you are on medicaid does not mean you are impoverished and cannot afford certain things. Like I said before I am a homeowner and I have been for many years. To the previous poster I do not lie about my income I do not have to. I work for the state and they know how much they pay me every month. If you do your research you will see that many of your state workers are receiving different benefits because of their extremely low wages. I was in the store yesterday and their was an advertisement for WIC that said a family of 6 can make 46,000.00 a year. That woud be a stay at home mother with a working husband, he is a tax payer so does that mean beacuse they are receiving WIC they are poor and should not be able to go to disney? What about when they get thier income tax refund can they still not go then?

My thoughts exactly. I don't know what state the PP lives in, but the income requirements for Medicaid in my state are so low that I don't see how someone only making that could afford a cruise, even with not paying for their children's health insurance. If I made the maximum amount allowed for my child to qualify for Medicaid, I would barely be able to pay my rent let alone save enough $ for a Disney cruise.

Hmm, we seem to have a contradiction here. In this thread you state:

but yet in another thread:

Ok, well I was laid off in May so I am receiving uneployement at $748 a month.

Not only that she wanted advice on whether to turn down a job offer because she felt it didn't pay her enough. So I guess we're left wondering exactly what the meaning of everyday is. Normally it wouldn't matter but she is so insistent that she is entitled to take this vacation because she's such a hard working taxpayer. I'm having trouble reconciling the two.

Everyday would be Monday-Friday. We are on summer vacation. School starts here August 23. So yes that would be everyday except for vacation days of course. I am able to receive unemployment because I was laid off meaning when school starts I do not have a job to go back to, but I accepted the position that I inquired about on the boards to better enhance my resume. Therfore I will be back at work by the time school starts again (teacher pre planning day). So that would mean I work everyday minus vacation days. I am sure you do not work vacation days. So theres my proof I work everyday.
