Last year, my husband and I went to Universal for the first time ever. I am 67 and he is 73. My husband enjoys rollercoasters and other "scary" rides. I don't.
We stayed at the Adventura Hotel for five days. We went in early March. I called before we went and got a package (something I would never do at Disney). I ran the numbers and found the price to be good. We went to the parks for four days. We bought the Express Pass for two of those days. The Express Pass was wonderful. If you can afford it; I would get it. The rides had long wait times.
My thoughts. - and my opinions:
Adventura was great- better than any Disney value or moderate. I did feel the room was a bit on the small side. Fine for two people, not so fine for four.
Universal's bus system was superior to Disney-we didn't wait more than two or three minutes for a bus-both going to the park and coming home (understand, Universal's buses don't have far to go).
We didn't have to make any reservations for lunch or dinner. If we wanted a sit-down meal, we walked to City Walk.
Harry Potter World was fantastic. I am glad we went to Universal simply to see this.
Universal was a much more relaxing vacation than Disney. We sat by the pool, got up late two of our four park days, stopped and smelled the roses a lot more.
With all of that-unless we did a family trip, where everyone wanted to go to Universal, I would probably never go back. The rides were just too rough for me-rollercoasters, simulators that went every which way. I did a total of four rides and only enjoyed two of them. I felt that Disney was more of an experience, while Universal was just a park full of rides.
To wrap it up-if your family loves scarier-type rides you would probably like Universal.
