Disney Undercover security

DH works security for the state, but he also loves to shop and people watch so is at the local mall a lot.

I have had people ask me if he is working undercover security at the mall as a second job, since they see him there all the time.

He said he would rather get poked in the eye with a sharp stick.

I'm sure the people that actually do this for a living appreciate the sentiment

Didnt cha ever hear bout the babysittin service they have whilst the adults go to PI or out for a meal? :rotfl:
It's hard to keep the kid happy stayin in the hotel room! :rotfl2:

P.S. I always thought their shirts said "UNDERCOVER" on them.

My husband spotted a handoff a few years ago. He watched as a guy walking towards him made deliberate eye contact with a man walking next to him. The guy walking toward him then made a gesture with his head and a few discrete hand signals. The guy next to him turned around and started following someone and the guy coming towards him moved in another direction. Both were apparently young touristy looking guys - looked like Dads send off to grab FastPasses.

By the way, my husband was alone - we'd sent him off for FastPasses.

After working in retail for the last 12 years I actually am always more comfortable in my store when we have our undercover "Agents" in our store. This also doesnt suprise me that any themepark would have these undercover security people as well. Every time someone steals a Mickey T-shirt it drives the prices up even more. Have I spotted them while visiting Mickey? Yes. I told DH who doesnt get exposed to that kind of enviroment where he works and he was shocked, "Really" he said. "They have people undercover?"

Now when we go shopping anywhere he tries to spot them.

I know that some of you on this post are a bit weirded out by this thread but the sad truth is that most stores loose millions of dollars a year in theft. Sales associates cant see everything and some are too scared to talk to a customer that just took something. A Shoplifters main objective is to get in and out without being noticed. Having people undercover lets the shoplifter feel that they are not being noticed. Until of course they hit the point in a store where they are passed the registers and the undercover security can then stop them. Its becoming the norm now. Which is sad. Perhaps Ive become desensitized to it now..

Finally someone said it!! I work in this particular field in retail. With any luck some day I will join the team at Disney in this capacity (If I can convince my wife to move ;) ) I can say from having worked in retail investigations otherwise known as "loss prevention", it does NOT help to have people point us out. They are performing a necessary and important job for Disney..lets let them do it.

Yep, when I worked in retail, we knew who the head uncover loss prevention person was since he comes and talks to everyone in training but we were told to ignore him unless he started talking to us first. If we saw him, we just acted like we didn't know him from any other customer strolling through the store. Now, I didn't know any of the other people he had working with him but I was in a different section of the store so I wasn't out strolling about much myself. LOL!

However, since I'm usually an oblivious one unless I saw something really obvious (like the example on the monorail) - I wouldn't know the difference anyway. :rotfl:

I want to say up front that I have always felt perfectly safe at DW and still do but have to comment on our recent trip.

For the first time we were required to show a picture id when we drove back to our resorts or to visit other resorts.

The first few times I went through the hassle of hanging onto the steering wheel with one hand and groping through my vacation (and therefore not familar) purse to find the required pieces of plastic.

One time I accidentally brought out the wrong card and was still passed through so my ornery mind got to working overtime and I started showing the back of the cards, hiding the room key behind another blank card and even used my library card one time.

Guess I do not fit the profile of a terrorist or other degenerate as I am a grandma and look it. LOL

I figure in these post 9/11 days we all would stick up for one another if a threat materialized. Times have changed and not all for the worse.

I've never spotted one.

I would assume that they are either folks wandering around solo, or with anamatronic kids in the strollers (the kids heads have surveilence cameras in them, of course).

I have seen more armed, uniformed security guards in the parks in teh past two years than ever before. One guy I saw on Main Street this month was carrying a 9mm on his right hip and a big taser gun on his left.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: Oh My, I thought you were totally kidding til I read the rest of the thread.

I feel so much safer after showing the guard at the gate my picture ID. :rotfl: Any day now a terrorist is going to slip up and show their ID to the guard, who will immediately recognize them and call national security! :rotfl2:

From some of what I have read and seen lately they might still get passed through even if they wore a big sign saying 'terrorist' on them.

We were talking recently and were thinking that all any real terrorist would have to do is pick up an American girlfriend or two and convince them that they were in 'love' and get them to carry out the dastardly deeds. Woman are gullible. I know, I used to be one. LOL

I am more worried about the local redneck with abundant weapons and a conspiracy fear. Lots of more of them around.

I have met the enemy and they are us.
