Disney Undercover security

Finally someone said it!! I work in this particular field in retail. With any luck some day I will join the team at Disney in this capacity (If I can convince my wife to move ;) ) I can say from having worked in retail investigations otherwise known as "loss prevention", it does NOT help to have people point us out. They are performing a necessary and important job for Disney..lets let them do it.

A few years ago we rode with one on the monorail. Just looked like your average young man tourist. Sneaks, cargo shorts, bright sport shirt untucked, and (gasp) longer hair and sunglasses. But, after leaving the CR, he suddenly pulled a mic out of his shirt and said he'd be at the GF in a few minutes via monorail. Then I noticed the little wire coming out of his shirt collar and into his hair..

Ohh! Me too. I saw one of those (the shirt, the little wire, the long hair and sunglasses). Nobody believed me (until now)!

Strike that. I saw nothing (just read the post above).

I have seen more armed, uniformed security guards in the parks in teh past two years than ever before. One guy I saw on Main Street this month was carrying a 9mm on his right hip and a big taser gun on his left.

That is Orange County Police. They must be on duty to carry their weapon.

Exactly.

I know, and speak with a couple of the undercover security CM's at certain locations on WDW property on occasion. There are very few CM's that know who they are, and/or what they are doing. Being one of the trusted few - just let them do what they are doing. If you spot them, great! Ignore them like any other stroller animatronic baby pushing tourist that you see.

The green uniform threw me; it looks more like a security guard uniform. But I looked on the OCSD web site and they do wear green uniforms. The taser was also strange; cops in Maryland are not permitted to carry them.

But then, the gray uniforms of the Maryland Transportation Authority Police (known around Baltimore as "Tunnel Cops") also look strikingly like a security guard uniform instead of a police uniform.

I worked for a theme park (not much like Disney at all if you ask me) when I was a college kid and we had undercover security. A lot of what they did was police the employees too, in fact they overheard a part of my conversation with a couple of pre-teen boys about not playing the broken machines anymore and I got hauled in for questioning. (I had told them "I won't give you any more credits on those machines ...this is the part they missed... you know they are broken and I'm trying to tag them out"). It turned out fine because when they looked at my log they saw those machines were tagged out for repairs and were malfunctioning. So I got an apology, but they told me not to talk about it or point out the undercovers to my co-workers or I'd get in trouble. After that, I could spot them more easily but I never pointed them out. When you are in the same game kiosk every day for 3 weeks straight and the same guy walks by 10 times a day every one of those days... :confused3

I have seen OCSD use the tazers. They don't mess around.

It's great that they carry a non-lethal weapon such as a tazer. Gives them more options.

HAHAH! YES!!

I love the way they sit at the end of the "alley" (as we call it) on 395 after the tunnel when it drops down to 55 mph. I watch the others fly by me knowingly... go for it guys! They are usually the cop cops though....

tazers aren't that bad, last year in San Luis Obispo for Mardi Gras they brought in 4000 cops and a tank! after a riot broke out (drunk college students) they pelted us with beanbags and pepper spray filled the air, that stuff bit your eyes hard. None of us were tazered but a guy in our frat owns a stun gun or tazer, and we were fulling around with it one day and shocked each other, i wouldn't let them shock me but for those who were shocked they said it was no where near as bad as the pepper spray was.

hi
had just said to my dh what a tart this girl looked. she had a short skirt ,very high stilletto heels and a blouse that left not a lot to the imagination, we realised she had an ear piece and was talking into a hidden mike of some sort. suddenly off came the shoes and she took off at great speed. i would never have guessed that she was security if i hadn't seen it!! it was conformed by the balloon seller. i was tagged by uniformed security guards 'cos i couldn't provide identity. i don't drive and didn't have my passport with me. my annual pass did not work and the c.m. at the gate asked for identity, as the serial no. on my pass followed on from my husbands he let me through. i was standing waiting to go into a bugs life when they said to me that they didn't think i was a threat to anybody, chuckled and walked away. so obviously the c.m. had been suspicious of a 60yr old granny!

I have a brother in law that works in the loss prevention/security field along with a good friend that also works in the same line of work, and they have both filled in my Hubby and I on some of the 'tricks of the trade' when it comes to loss prevention/security.

When we were in WDW Hubby and I did whisper to each other when we found undercover security. And just let me make it clear, we were not pointing and exclaiming for all of WDW to hear "Look over there Hubby, there's an uncover security person. Yuck Yuck!!".

But, because we knew some of the tricks of the trade it was fun for us to look for them and have stories to tell our friend and brother.

We saw one in November, dressed in shorts and a short sleeve button up tropical shirt and tennis shoes. No camera, no fanny pack, no stroller, just walking down Main Street. What gave him away? The clear spiral cord coming from the ear piece going down the back of this shirt.

Hmm interesting. I would love to show you the video of my DH taking a five-second ride during his Taser training. He has been sprayed with pepper spray as well, and has a VERY BAD reaction to pepper spray (thank goodness that is part of their training so he knows what to expect). Believe me, he would rather take the pepper spray than the Taser.

Your frat's stun gun is not the same thing.

Hahaha, I'm not gonna yell "HEY EVERYONE LOOK, UNDERCOVER SECURITY!!!" I just want to have something else to look for while I'm there aside from hidden mickeys. People are taking this thread way too seriously, it's just for fun.

I dunno I have talked to many people who have all said that pepper spray is worse, mostly because of how long it lasts. with tazer/stun gun all you have is the shock, then some time of shock/convulsion; but after that your good to go.

Great idea!

They are VERY easy to spot.

They often wear shorts or other casual clothing.

Sometimes a belt-bag.

Sometimes have a camera.

They almost always have a hat of some kind.

When you notice someone dressed like that, just give them a little wink.
If they look at you a bit strangely, then you'll know you've found one.

We had two young White FBI guys, in suits, in a four-door ford, trying to stake out a hot spot for drugs one day, looking for a guy on a warrant, and they couldn't figure out howcome everyone in that neighborhood seemed to know they were there. They were so obvious, we told them, semi-kiddingly, that Stevie Wonder could have spotted them. Must have been brand new.

Not always a giveaway. Personally, I wear an earpiece like this on my cell phone, not because I'm undercover security, but just because it's more comfortable than the ear-bud style of earpiece.

(I don't often wear an earpiece ... although it does make it easier to hear when I'm in a crowded situation, such as a theme park)
