last april we went and our ultimate 14 day tickets cost 169 pounds for adults and 149 for our 6 year old daughter .

we are being quoted 210 quid plus this year for the same tickets

forty quid rise in a year is crazy when times are tough --- how do they justify such rises .

unless they drop and by some amount soon we will get flex ticket plus and defect to universal seaworld !!!!!

these prices were from walt disney travel company ---anyone any cheaper ????

Tickets will not drop by any significant amount I'm afraid :)
There is a thread by Pegasus detailing all the cheapest places to get tickets on here somewhere

:goodvibes

£210 for 14 day ultimate ticket is good. I was £235/240(can't remember which) when I booked through Disney UK website and I'm pretty sure I paid £200 4 years ago for the same ticket. If you are getting it for £210 I say go for it because you are saving £30 per ticket on the normal cost.

Plus... when you think of it £210/14 days only equals £15 per day and I think £15 entry per day plus hopper option, water parks and disney quest is amazing. You wouldn't get that value in any theme park in the UK. For me it puts it into perspective.

Just me 2p worth!

I personally think if you are going for 14 days and doing universal etc and are looking to save money. The best option are the magic your way tickets - yes it takes the flexability away and you lose the option of park hopping and disneyquest but if we do a ten day base myw ticket we pay £880 for all of us if we buy 14 day ultimates we pay £1300 - big savings if its an option for you !!!
Just my 2p worth !!

the £210 price is part of an offer at the mo where you get 14 nights for price of 7, that is cheap :)

The exchange rate does affect the prices too.

I think 210 is a great price - this year! I know what the OP is saying. We did a package with Thomas Cook signature last year and our tix were the same prices. I booked through Disney UK for this trip and had to take the tickets to get the free dining. They have come down since with a slight up in the £/$ since I booked but I paid £249 each for me and DD7.

I also understand the point you are making about it being a lot - for a family of four youre looking at £1000!

You just have to do what MyBubbles does and look at it in comparison with what you get here. That is the VERY reason my DD has never been to any major UK attractions - I keep working out what it would cost for a day in WDW theme park.

Welcome to DISboards.
Don't know exactly when you bought you last tickets but its more than likely the price was worked out on an exchange rate mid 2008, probably somewhere between $1.85-$2/£1
Disney do not sell tickets with a day to day fluctuation in market exchanges they fix a price at set times of the year and stick at that price for a few months.
This procedure worked in your favour last time as when you went the £ had collapsed yet you get the tickets fixed at the lower exchange rate many months before.
This trip works the other way, you are fixed in at lower rate from a few month back, although Disney have helped by dropping prices slightly and doing the 14 day for price of 7.

Lets say a 14 day ticket has a $ value $340, if the exchange rate is $2/£1 we should pay around £170 (which you did last year) if the exchange rate is $1.62 (todays rate) we should pay around £210 (price Disney are selling for now)
Disney are getting exactly the same price for the ticket if you paid £170 last year or £210 this year. They have no control over exchanges.

This is not taking into account any annual price rise which must have happened since your last trip.

Don't get people started on Univeral tickets, they have just increased their 7 day ticket from $99 to about $170. If you can get any at the old price buy fast.:thumbsup2

that makes sense of it all -thank you . would it be cheaper to get tickets at walmart ? i am staying in windward cay and its only 2 mins from the villa . Thanks for welcome btw ---- i was getting 1.38 to the dollar when i went and its over 1.60 now isnt it .

The currect exchange rate is $1.6145, not the rate you will get at the High st exchange, the rate there is approx 3-5% less than this at around $1.56.
I rarely exchange money anymore, use a fee free credit card (Post Office) that way I get full rate on the day of the transaction. Many prefer still to use cash or Travellers cheques.

Depends on type of ticket you want, the 7/14/21 day tix are only available in UK. Even the US tix I would seriously consider buying here, net prices are usually better than anything you can get locally.
See Kennys thread here for some help with prices. He tries to update every week but working offshore this week with slow connection so prices could be slightly wrong http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2374222

I never thought of the Post Office credit card. Would you say it's better than the Co-Op or Thomas Cook Cash Cards? Sorry, I don't want to sabotage the OPs thread, so feel free to delete and tell me to re-post

Co-op credit cards have a 2.75% fee for foriegn transactions.

If you spend say $2,000 on holiday working on an average exchange rate of $1.60 on your Co-op card it will cost you £1,285. If you used a Post Office card(or Abbey Zero) it would cost you £1,250.
A saving of £35. doesn't sound a great deal but we might pay for a cruise in $'s at $3,000 + hotels in $ etc, can soon turn into £100's saved.

Thomas cook is slightly better at 2.5% fee.
You need to also look at any benefits you get with either card, see if the fee is worth paying.

if you apply for post office card --do it well before you want to go ---i applied in early march last year ------they sent some forms to sign in late april after i got back !!! oh and i wasnt thinking earlier ---surely tickets should be cheaper not more expensive if i get more dollars for my pounds ??? making it an ever bigger rip off ??? do any american members confirm price has not risen ????

Like I said the price of tickets when you went last year was more than likely fixed when the exchange rate was around $1.85-$2 (Aug-Oct 08) not when the £ collapsed when you travelled.
Price of tickets rose to Americans Early August as they do every year.

We also use the Post Office CC, all those savings can pay for a few more ice creams and the occasional beer :)

For the OP - if you have any air miles, you can use these to get a discount off your Ultimate tickets - at a rate of £60 discount for every 1000 miles you use.

Might help lessen the cost a bit!

Whilst the Magic Your Way tickets can seem expensive, we find them better.
Getting tickets with the hopper/non expiry facility means the tickets can last more than 1 holiday.
We currently have 5 days left on our 6 day passes, plus a couple of water park visits. Enough for our next holiday.

Our old 10 day one lasted us ages. I actually made a pleasant mistake last year thinking we just had a couple of days left on them, when in fact we had 5!
Hence we do not need tickets for this year, and we also took advantage of the $99 Universal tickets. :)

I didnt know you could do this - how do you do it? :goodvibes

Personally I don't think the price of the Ultimates is that bad when you consider what is included with them. I think that in value for money terms (or bang for your buck) it is much better than somewhere like Alton Towers ask for entrance.
The only way to work it is to try and plan before buying exactly how many days or nights you plan on spending in Disney parks, whether you want to hop or not or if you plan on returning in the near future. Only then will you know what is best for you and your budget.
When I buy the Ultimate one thing I am paying for is flexibility - something that numerous trips to the World has taught us is a necessity. I would hate to have to try and do a park from opening til closing just because we only have one day left on our ticket and had so much left to do.

Assuming you have "real" Air Miles (the company with the yellow logo), not Virgin Air Miles or BA Air Miles or any other kind...

They deal with Keith Prowse Attraction Tickets - and if you call them up, they'll call someone at KP on the other line, then tell you how much your tickets would be with KP (usually a bit dearer than some of the other places), then you can pay for them part cash, part miles, and the discount is £60 for every 1000 miles you use.

Hope this helps!! :thumbsup2

I just called them up and asked if it was possible, as I'd seen KP's name on some promotional material they sent me. Told them I wanted the Ultimate 14 day tickets, and the rest was as easy as above. KP are only open during office hours though, even though Air Miles are open in the evenings.
