Seriously. For the money Moana 2 took in, I couldn't even finish it. Moana 1 is in my Disney top 10.Moana 2 and Mufasa are worse than any movie on this list (except maybe Wish - that movie sucks.)

I think the problem has nothing to do with Male/Female leads or the strength of the characters. The problem is that all of the original animated films since 2020 have just been bad movies. Some of them really bad.
Onward - Bad
Raya and the Last Dragon - Tolerable
Ron's Gone Wrong - Bad
Encanto - Barely Tolerable
The Bob's Burgers Movie - Not original, doesn't count
Lightyear - Bad
Strange World - Really Bad
Elemental - Really Bad
Wish - Bad
Soul - OK
Turning Red - Really Bad
Luca - Bad
Inside Out 2 - Not original, doesn't count
Moana 2- Not original, doesn't count
Mufasa: The Lion King- Not original, doesn't count
Elio - Bad
The stories are terrible, it isn't the characters, it is the stories themselves.

It's just a bad movie. Nothing else to say *shrugs*. I totally understand why it bombed in the box office.I don't get why people hate Wish so much. I thought it was pretty good - very classic Disney, which is what a lot of people were clamoring for (return of a true villain). Now, it's not necessarily my favorite of all time, but it's solid and the animation is stunningly gorgeous! That 48% i spretty harsh from the critic. Save that for Lightyear!![]()

I mean, I have A LOT to say about Wish but honestly don't care enough to get into it. I'd put it at the same level as Moana 2 which also sucks tremendously. That's not really a critique, but okay.
Even if Wish is "bad" and it's critic score is warranted, most of the rest of the movies on that list have pretty strong scores. Many of them bombed at the box office too (if they even got a chance to). So, are they "bad" because they failed? Did they fail because they are "bad"? Fact is, one has very little to do with the other. Good movies fail all the time and bad movies are successful. I still say that the slate is pretty decent from a creative standpoint, and many of them are quite popular and well regarded.

I don't value critic or audience scores for movies at all so all of that is meaningless to me. I disagree with some of the movies the previous poster labeled as bad though. If anything they're just okay/mediocre at best.
I view Wish like I view The Mario Movie. Messy plot wise where any story plays second fiddle to the nostalgia fuel member berries throughout.
Mario just had the obvious benefit of being a self contained IP movie while with Wish a bunch of Disney IP nostalgia got jumbled in to an attempted original story
See, where you think both are decent, I found both to be rather forgettable. One just happened to make over $1B, the other floppedWish is definitely "by the numbers" but considering how many people really want that, I am surprised how harsh people are on it. Like, SMB, it was still pretty decent. At least Wish had a uniwue and beautiful anaimation style though, which does elevate it a tad in my book.
Yeah the Mario movie is a 6/10 at best. I am starting to see people turn on it though. Only took a few years.I view Wish like I view The Mario Movie. Messy plot wise where any story plays second fiddle to the nostalgia fuel member berries throughout.

Animation style only gets you so far when there isn’t enough substance. But forgettable doesn't mean bad. Again, at lease Wish looked good - SMB is rather generic (I mean nice animation, but nothing special). It is amazing that as big of a Nintendo fan that I am, I haven't much cared to revisit SMB (though I did rewatch it on an overseas flight).

Critics and other scoring doesn't really mean anything.
I let the money do the talking:
Onward - Bad - net loss 131 million
Raya and the Last Dragon - Tolerable - made some money
Ron's Gone Wrong - Bad - lost money
Encanto - Barely Tolerable - eventually made some money
The Bob's Burgers Movie - Not original, doesn't count
Lightyear - Bad - lost 106 million
Strange World - Really Bad - lost almost 200 million
Elemental - Really Bad - made money
Wish - Bad - lost 130 million
Soul - OK - lost 50 million
Turning Red - Really Bad - lost 155 million
Luca - Bad - eventually made some money after re-release
Inside Out 2 - Not original, doesn't count
Moana 2- Not original, doesn't count
Mufasa: The Lion King- Not original, doesn't count
Elio - Bad - lost at least 50 million
They are just flat-out unappealing movies. If they were good, people would pay up, and they don't.
