Not sure if this is the right place to post this, so if not, please let me know.

I am planning my upcoming trip and planned to buy Disney's trip insurance. Our trip will take place in Dec. so my biggest concern is weather related reasons for canceling. When I called today to price out my vacation, I asked about the insurance 1 - Do I need to purchase it now or can I wait? 2 - If I book my flights on my own can they be added and covered? 3 - will it cover weather related cancelations? I was told I could buy up until my final payment, yes, I can book flights on my own and add them and they will be fully covered and 3 - it does cover weather issues.

I was just looking on Mousesavers and it says the Disney insurance is not good, it won't cover flights booked on your own, you should order it within 14 days of making your deposit or will have many more restrictions and it likely to NOT cover weather related cancelations/delays.

Anyone know who is right?? The CM (by the way it was TWO CM's that confirmed the same info) or mousesavers.

TIA.

I can't answer your questions directly, but on my last trip, I bought the insurance as one of the people in my group has MS and I didn't want to take the chance of her not being able to go and be out all that money.
With that being said... our return flight home was postponed due to weather (there was a thunderstorm and lots of lighting). We had to stay overnight in Orlando. I turned in the hotel cost and our dinner cost to the insurance. I did have to jump through a few hoops but I got my money back for the cost. What I didn't know I had to have was proof from the airline that the cancellation was not anything I could have controlled. Now I know and if that ever happens again, I'll make sure I get that from the airline right away.
I have a trip planned for this October and and I purchased the trip insurance again.

We always purchase the insurance. It's a small price to pay to recoup a much bigger expense if necessary. However--we do not purchase the Disney ins. We use Access America. Fewer restrictions than what Disney offers & I think it would be good to have a third party involved (rather than Disney insuring their own trip) just in case. Like all insurance...hope we never have to use it, but sure glad it's there if you do!

If Mousesavers is saying Disney trip insurance will not cover your flights, they are wrong. It covers your flights whether you book them or Disney books them. We had occasion to use Disney insurance last year when our youngest daughter had emergency surgery; we weren't flying that year so flights were not an issue but it did reimburse our room expenses with no problems.

No matter where we've flown, we've always bought the insurance and it came in handy in 2007 when my son had emergency surgery a month before our trip. We had to reschedule the whole trip to Disney from end of May to July (wrong month to go, to hot and humid). We also book through AAA so the TA handled all the changes and such. Whenever we fly we buy the insurance, never had to use it before until 2007 but we were glad we had it.:thumbsup2

You should check out the cancellation policy as well. I know that Disney has worked with us very well when we have had to postpone vacation. That said this time I did not purchase vacation insurance because as far as I could gather from reading through the information the most we would lose would be the deposit which was 200.00 and Disney would refund the rest. If somebody has had to cancel last minute (or postpone) without the trip insurance perhaps they could tell us what happened.

Thank you all for your responses. I will for sure purchase insurance it's just a matter of from where. Thought it would be easiest to just add it to from disney but I need to ensure it will cover what we need.

I booked the trip now, so far without the insurance. The reason for this is I haven't booked my flights yet. I'm waiting for JEt Blue prices to come out which are not until June. My thought it once I book the airfar I'll book the insurance as well because then we will for sure be going. After that the only thing that would cause us to cancel the trip will be an emergency, which from what I gather, all the insurances will cover, two a weather related issue that I can't control. Which is where it gets diecey. I know often the CM's can be misinformed so I tend to believe what Mousesavers is saying but wanted to see what others thought. I know a few years ago, we had a snowstorm in Dec. and flights were canceled for DAYS and then were not rescheduled for almost a week. That is my fear. We are only going for 6 days and can't postpone. So if I can't get out within a day or so, would want to cancel the trip. Also, with returning, if there were weather related issues and we got stuck there I want insurance to cover some of those expenses. Just wish I could be sure the information I was receiving was accurate. I don't want to purchase it only to need to use it and get told, sorry, whoever told you that was wrong!

Notaclue, that was really helpful info. Thanks. Looks like the CM is correct. I think it will cover what I need.

THANKS A BUNCH. Gotta love the Dis!!!
