Disney Travel Asking AKL reserv. to Move!!!

really wow
ask to speak with guest services then or a manager
Why? Disney is offering them an option - stay were you are booked and be advised that there is construction activity going on or move to a significantly LARGER accommodation that would normally cost MORE for a LOWER price. Disney has no OBLIGATION to move the OP, they are making an offer that the OP has the choice to accept or refuse.

I heard that the construction at AKL/DVC is going so well, they are ahead of schedule.
My guess is that they are offering the move to see if they can speed the process even more by lowering the occupancy and enabling them to convert a larger area than previously planned during the time period.

I hope the OP is satisfied with her decision - I'm just truly mystified by the people who seem to think the offer isn't acceptable.

Lori,

My sister is going to AKL in September (their first trip to the world). How can I find the number to AKL directly so she can check on the construction schedule for their trip.

Is it posted anywhere, when they are working on what parts of the lodge and exactly what are they doing?

Thanks

Then I called the actual hotel. They will only have 3rd floor savannah view open!!! Floors 4, 5 and 6 are closed!!
Let them know I would call back today!
Lori

We received the same call, and after much debating about it, went witht he move for the extra space in the room, plus all of the money we got back. Like my husband said, AKL isnt going anywhere, and we will be back in the next couple of years for sure

Just hung up with Disney Travel. I took the SSR deal. Im getting a very generous deal. 1 bedroom villa with no noise while my 3 1/2 year old naps mans alot. Im also getting alot $$$wise. My worst nightmare was showing up and being walked to another property with NO $$$ refund or not close to a deluxe. I read that there is a HUGE dif between the Deluxe resorts and vacation club resorts as far as "magic" goes, but with my crazy fam, we'll create our own magic.
The agent said pretty much everyone will be getting a phone call if you are staying w/in the next few months.

Next few month means what? In the next two or three, or six? Reason I'm asking, we're booked AKL concierge for the end of Nov. and if there's a chance we will be offered a move, I want to be in control earlier so maybe I can negotiate for one of the monorail resorts!
I'm wondering if they would even appreciate that I called ahead to offer to move before they asked me to...?

Is the construction taking place throughout the entire resort, or just savannah views? My sis and family are planning their first trip to wdw. they have a pool view for Septmeber 1st - 8th. Will they most likely get bumped also?

I was wondering the same thing. A friend of my stayed at AKL last week and was upgraded from pool view to savannah - she said they heard no construction noise.

ok I have read everyones emails. so here is all the responses!
1. I was told only the 3rd floor will be open and floors 4,5 and 6 will be closed. so the only savannah view room will be floor 3 that is open. the top floors are being converted to some suites for the cillas they said. I was told that if not enough people moved before our july7th date we willl get walked with NO incentives to a hotel not of our choice. Our plane flight coming from AZ is late late late getting in so that would probably happen to us!
2. The SSR is not the experience I wanted and I had to fight over 3 phone calls not to get booked there. The options were Poly only! WOuld have stayed at others but theywere all booked up!
3. After 3 phone calls and stated that this was 16 days before the trip I wanted something for the inconvienience. It was not about getting a nicer room, just something comparable to the one I had at AKL. A garden view does not have the same spectacular view the savannah did! Yes it is a nicer hotel, but not the hotel I choose when we booked last September! When I said ok we will move to the Poly she then stated that "you will be happier her at the Poly" and I said "kids would have liked the animals better". now mind you I was told it was starting to be a heated conversation with the TA. she states "well you found the SSR unacceptable so at least your getting a better deal now" in an attitude I did not like. at that point I explained to her our first trip to disney was supposed to me an "experience" to remember and not in a condo like atmosphere with a kitchen and washer since I plan to do none of that on my vacation! And then I told her that I am a planner and have the schedule down to a tee and 16 days before with 3 kids under 6 this was a major inconvience and she needs to compensate me wiht something. she said you get a more expensive room at the AKL price. I explained that the room price did not matter and that is not the point. At that point she trew in the fireworks.
4. now my point and I want to say to everyone is that it is not about the price of the room, I want an "experience" a great time and the SSR is not a hotel for the kids. It is not what I intended the trip to be. We planned for so long and if I knew that the Akl would have been doing construction back then we would have picked the villas at WL. I am sorry if every one thinks I am greedy. I am not, just want what I booked for/ "experience and atmosphere"!
5. Now when I check in I want to be able to eat at Ohana's! It is booked that night and we are not getting on a tram to downtown disney etc! we planned to eat at the AKL. Not taking a tram there. I am sure after hearing our story they will find a table for us! That is what I am asking for. And I do not think they could say no after a long flight and a hungry bunch of KIDS!!!
oh and my luggage tags say AKL on them and I have to inform them when I get there that I am not staying there anymore! hope there is no mixup!
6. I am satisfied with the outcome. showed hubby the hotel online last night and he likes it and is happy with it! It was hard to make the decision, but it was a struggle not to stay at SSR. I would have felt irritated about it, money or no money! But I think this worked out for the better and we are now all happy. the girls said they want to learn to dance like lilo and hopefully they will have something fun about that there. Friday morning we have breakfast with lilo and stitch and that should be a blast!!!!
Lori

I see you have 'Ohana for breakfast and want the dinner too. Have you thought of trying Chef Mickeys? Its in the Contemporary Resort--just hope the monorail over there. They also have a character meal at GF.

This reminds me of the pofq a few years ago, They called us 2 days before our trip and told us they were closing the hotel .And we had a choice of any other mod we would like, So we took cbr when we check in we asked if would could have a king bed and they granted us our wish, Which we thought was great cause we didn't have to pay for it.The trip was great even though this was not the hotel we booked . ..Cause we were in DISNEY...Just go and have a wonderful time...:)

I agree, I also think that you should have a back up. 1900 park faire at the GF is very nice also, Chef Mickeys, and whispering Canyon over at the WL is fun. Ohana gets alot of mixed reviews, they have changed the menu and while its a nice place to eat its not somewhere I would be upset it I couldnt get.
Good Luck and enjoy the Poly its a wonderful place. another poster just posted about being moved as well. She was offered SSR and also refused, she got GF.

Hey eeyore3847 - post when you get back. I'd be interested to see how your trip went. We're also booked for AKL with a Savanna view which we booked in January. I haven't rec'd the dreaded phone call. Mind you we booked through Small World Vacations so I don't know if that has any effect on the outcome. I hope not - this will be our first and probably only trip to WDW (just too expensive to travel there from where I live) and I always thought that if we ever get to go then I want to stay at AKL. I would really hate to have to move.

I agree 100 percent with eeyore3847.

I'm also going for the experience of AKL and SSR would not give me that.

The Poly I would accept. However, I doubt I would be as efficient as eeyore3847 in getting moved to Poly, so this is why I'm extra scared they'll want to move me. I'll probably just say I want to stay at AKL and hope for the best at check in.

I am subscribing since we will also be staying at AKL in September...just keeping up on what is happening. popcorn::

ok, went to the website to see what is avail when we go!!
there is the Grand Floridian, Polynesian and the villas at wilderness lodge..
my husband hates camping so the forts are out!

what do you all think of those hotels

The Villas at Wilderness Lodge would be a great option if they are offering you at least a one bedroom. While the settings of the Lodge are rustic and out-doorsey they are beautiful and relaxing. The pool at the Lodge is great and you can take a small boat ride to the MK, great with small children and the view of the castle as you come around the bend near the CR is wonderful. The up-side to either the Poly or GF is that they are on the monorail so getting to MK or Epcot is a lot easier. With the VWL you'd have to take the boat to the MK and then hop on the monorail.

I have stayed at AKL Concierge Savana view. LOVED IT. Then we stayed at Poly Garden View.... LOVED IT EVEN MORE!

The convenience of the monorail with 3 kids under 6 is going to make the trip more of an experience than you can imagine. We loved AKL, but the buses were a pain with kids. So I hope you love Poly, and you can go to the beach and see the fireworks at night. I am so jealous!

Any more news on whether Sept people are being asked to move? Should I call? I'd much rather take care of it now then find out when they are moving me at check-in.

We are going to the AKL Vacation Club in Oct, I am starting to worry that we made a bad choice:confused3

I am with the OP about the atmosphere and experience. Me and DH have the Cont. magic kingdom view reserved in December. I would be very upset if two weeks before I left they called and said sorry you can't have what you have been saving and planning for for the last year. I would not want anywhere else and if they moved me when I checked in I assure you everyone in the whole hotel would know it  . I know I am on vacation and I should relax but it has been what we have scrimped every penny for and dreamed of for a very long time.
