Which mode of transport would you recommend to use for our trip next week.We are staying at Pop Century and can use free Disney transportation but would using our hire car be more convenient and do you get free parking at the parks. :thumbsup2

Hi

Well with regards to staying on Disney Property and getting around all the Disney parks, you should have no problem with Disney Transportation, but if you plan on doing Universal, Shopping at the Malls, seeing a little bit of outside of Disney then you may want to consider hiring a car.

That said I stay at Disney onsite and manage to get to the other places using Taxis as I dont like to drive over there on my own, with just my DD.

Im not being much help at all here am I, but for me and this is just my opinion, I wouldnt have a car, but Im sure others would.

Im sure if you are staying onsite at a Disney Resort then parking is free at the Disney Parks. :goodvibes

We are staying next week and have a hire car - as parking is free to resort guests we will probably drive to most of the parks - we are staying at AKL for most of our stay and then GF for the end part - we probably wont use the car when we stay at GF.

Sue is right that parking is free to onsite guests :)

As Sue says, we find for all WDW parks and locations the transport is excellent. What we do is hire a car for just part of the holiday to do the other things - SeaWorld, Universal, shopping malls etc :)

I found the transportation terrible ASM. So many people using motorised vehicles. I heard one lady say she hired one because it makes back tracking alot easier. In my opinion you shouldnt be able to hire one unless you have a medical condition. This caused all sorts of problems. It might just be me who wasnt impressed. Last year was awful compared to ASP a few years back.

we stay onsite and we hire a car.
We tend to use the car to get to Epcot, Animal Kingdom and MGM, but use Disney transporation to get to the Magic Kingdom, since only Disney transporation gets you right to the gate of the MK (if you park, you then have to get on the monorail or ferry to get across to the MK gate).

I've never hired a car there, even when staying off site, having said that if you're doing a lot outside disney it would be easier with one but we've managed by taking a cab the few times we've gone to malls, seaworld etc. The overall price for 2 or 3 taxi trips is far less than insurance etc on a car.

I wouldnt bother with a car if you are staying onsite, the transport is great and as Carol said its cheaper to use a few taxis for places like Universal then paying for a hire car.

As others have said if you are staying on-site for Disney you don't need a car.

However, for getting around Orlando and seeing other areas and attractions a car is the best way.
We couldn't do with out one, an obvious comment really as we stay in villas, but the convenience of having your own transport cannot be beat in my opinion.

Whilst public transport may be fine, for getting to Universal, shoping malls and further afield too if you want to, a car gives you that extra freedom to do so.

the thing i like about car rental..you can just take your time!

and the parking is good

we get a car for the middle of the 2 weeks

It depends on what you want to do outside the parks. We were there last week and had planned to hire a car, but didn't bother in the end. We stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge which is a little way out but never had any problem getting to and from the parks quickly (never had to wait for more than 15 minutes for a bus).

Mears run a shuttle to/from Seaworld for around $16 pp (I think) from the hotel.

We also got a taxi to and from the Florida Mall for $70 which was expensive I guess!
