Disney to Limit Refillable Mug use

Ok, completely off topic, but it seems Jason Garcia generates more and more articles that have begun here and elsewhere. When will we see an article on the rumored sale of Disney Parks & Resorts? Yes, I realize it's potentially a much bigger story with much further reaching implications, but his source in this article is only a fan website.

I don't quite understand what they are changing. I understand what they want to try to stop, but what are they gonna do to change it?

From what I understand it will be a system of bar codes on cups which only allows a cup to be scanned and used for a specific period of time. It will not only not let you fill up a cup after your trip ends, but it will also not let you fill the cup more than once every 5 minutes. This keeps people from filling up their entire family's cups with one refillable cup. One use cups could only be used for a short time, maybe an hour or so.

I think it's awesome they are closing loopholes with technology. Why would anyone who isn't cracking the system even care?

So it will still be unlimited if you have a mug you bought on that trip.

The slavering Disney beancounters are chasing their tails because somebody got an unauthorized coke product which costs Disney $ 0.00. You DO remember that Disney pays $0.00 for coke syrup products....all they must do is sell them in Coke cups and it's all written off to advertisiing at Coke.

Personally I have never seen rabid abuse of the system and honestly.....WHO CARES except the Coke Nazi's who have nothing better to do than look for boorish behavior. It's not like it's going to shut down Disney because of loss profits.....don't forget the $0.00.

Now......let's calculate the cost for the R&D research into the computer program to accomplish this....then the roll out. THIS is the best use of Disney $$$$$? I don't think so. My vote would have been.....throw the $$$ toward FIXING THE YETI.

Now, moving forward, let's see how everyone is cheering when they realize they can only refill their mugs every 5 minutes - and it is programmed to fill only one mug. Or those who have split stays and have to buy TWO mugs p/person.

THIS is the best you got, fellow castmember Bob? Chasing after people who are getting unauthorized coke products......don't forget, it's costing Disney $0.00 for that liquid that is coming out of the dispenser!!!!!

As my three year old cousin says......paleeeeeeezzzzzzzeeeeeee!

There are so many wrong things in the post I don't know where to start. I guess I will start with this... Do your research before spouting off. This system in NOT a Disney system. It is a separate company. It has NOTHING to do with the expense of the Coke and EVERYTHING to do with people NOT paying for new mugs when they SHOULD be. There are numerous threads about this already and there is some very good information in there if you take the time to look for it. In my opinion, the people who overly complain about the system are the ones who have been abusing it. Now they either pay for the new mug (or a paper cup using the same technology) or they drink the free water.

the only problem i have is the wait time! i like to chug a mug than refill! why can't disney issue mugs to everyone just add it to the price of the resort?

Well, I, for one, don't drink soda, so why should I have to pay for it?

Tisk.....Tisk.....Tisk.....so many wrong things about your post.

I'm SURE you were not referencing our Resort Mug history.....since you have absoltuely nothing to reference so I won't take the blanket insult to heart.

We don't purchase refillable mugs....Garden Grocer delivers our choice of beverages to our resort on arrival. Convenient, far more healthy than soda and easy to transport into the parks for the day. Never have had a moments trouble.

We travel to WDW and DL far too often each year to spring for plastic mugs we will never use again. They would just be a waste of space.

Once again, however, any $$$ Disney spent in DL and now WDW, on installation and operating costs for their little Soda-Abuser-Witch-Hunt still seems like a waste of time chasing after something so incredibly trivial. Best use of Disney's $$$$....probably not.

But hey, to each his/her own!

Hmm... I gave up waiting on Disney to do you any favors a long time ago.. But is it really costing Disney that much of a fortune on soft drinks? It's the least they could give us. And I imagine Disney will be wasting even more money adding these systems to every food court at every hotel -Correct me if I'm wrong. If the cast members at the food courts would have actually corrected the people 'stealing' then everything would still be simple, but I've seen on multiple occasions people filling pitchers of soda and the cast members are right there but don't say anything. Anyways, that's waaay too expensive to buy a whole new set of mugs each time we go. So we'll probably start bringing our packets of crystal light or something.

I like the idea, it's just like the waterparks which is nice. I don't like people who abuse the system while others do the right thing.

I don't have a problem with the new system. When you go on a cruise (not DCL), if you want soda, you either pay for it or buy a beverage package at $6.00 pp per day. :scared1: Disney's refillable cup is a bargain. ;)

Sorry if I came across harsh in my post, but when you made a complaint about all the money Disney was spending on computer research, I was trying to point out that the research did not need to be done by Disney. They are using an established company with that company's own technology. This thread was started LONG after the original thread which includes the company name, FAQ, system diagrams, etc.

I guess I'm also not really understanding why you would seem so annoyed by something you have absolutely no intention of using. :confused3 But like you said, to each his/her own. Sorry, again.:flower3:

I don't have a dog in this fight. But this statement? Wow. Just... wow.

I'm sorry if I offended you as well, but I don't know how prefacing a statement with "in my opinion" is so horrible. As one who has always followed the mug rules, and given the pretty large support of Disers who are in agreement with me on this, there's not a lot to complain about--UNLESS you were abusing the system that has been in place for a long time. Not sure why a statement like mine would bother you so much.:confused3 But alas, I guess it did, so again, I do apologize.:flower3:

So if someone buys a paper cup they can fill it up as many times as they want??? Wouldnt people still bring old mugs without a barcode and wouldnt that act just like a paper cup? The soda machine will not be able to determine who has a paper cup vs a plastic mug from 2010 without a barcode. Maybe they will have Soda Security posted at each vending area.
