Disney to eliminate plastic straws, hotel in-room plastics and plastic shopping bags

Congrats. You are better than me. I will also cope when WDW does away with straws. I’ll just bring my own most likely plastic ones (gasp) if they’re not banned from the parks b/c I’m not washing reusable ones in a public restroom. I rarely use straws at home & WDW may be one of the only places I do use them so I’m comfortable with my choices. It’s the obnoxious comments like “it’s not all about me” that make me & others resent the whole movement.

Wow. This straw thing is a big deal to you, huh? Oh, and to the "others." Ok then. I hope it all works out to your advantage. I mean, we all have our issues that we stand behind. If straws are yours, that's cool. Bringing your own plastic one sounds like a really good solution. Happy drinking ☺

I think it’s quite the opposite that it’s a big deal to you that you begrudge others the right to have an opposing opinion & feel the need to belittle ppl with comments like “it’s not all about me”.

I'm confused. Would you have liked it better if I said it was all about me? You came up with your own solution. You'll bring your own straw. Problem solved. Are you upset that it's not a personal enough issue for me that I don't want to do that? Straws are important to you. Which is cool. For you. Not so much for me. Should I be just like you? And if so, why?

It’s an underhanded comment & I’m fairly sure you know that. Saying you don’t use straws b/c it’s not all about you implies that those of us who still sometimes use straws are not as selfless as you & are self-absorbed. The only reason I felt the need to respond was b/c you quoted my previous post to get that point across.

I'm still confused. I have said you found a solution to the straw problem. You'll bring your own. And I said I'm cool with that. I like it when people are proactive when solving issues they are concerned about. Again, should I have said it's all about me? If straws were a thing with me, I'd bring my own too. Are you saying they should be an issue for me because they are for you? I'm fairly certain there are issues that I care about that you don't. But I get the feeling that you want the last word and I have to get up early for work tomorrow so I'll give you that honor. Enjoy your next trip to the World.

I've devised a way to make sure they won't walk in on me more than once.... If/when they come banging on my door I'll open it nude. Being completely serious.

Of course they'd only walk in on you once - because you'd get slammed with indecent exposure and kicked off property :)

As I tossed my asthma inhaler into my pocket this morning before heading out, I thought of this thread---that inhaler is about the same level of "inconvienence" to tote about as a few straws or a reusable one in a small case would be. Straws are almost certainly smaller/lighter than the insulin and measuring stuff my friend carries (but it is also rather small and light these days).
I'm sure it must be a bit of a change to get used to for people who have a need for straws to supply their own in the ways many of us have been carrying/supplying our own small items for various medical needs since forever---but most will cope, as LSUmiss says by making sure they bring what is needed for themselves, and pretty soon it will be habit and not even much on their radar anymore (if most places stop supplying).

Can you be charged for indecent exposure for being naked in your hotel room?
if someone intentionally opened the door while in a state of undress, as that poster claims they would, perhaps a case could be made. Even more so if it turned out it was not the room check knocking, but a lost child who thought they had their own room or something.

Even if not, Disney would have every right to not let someone who did that any time they did a room check book a hotel with them again. That said, this is another issue which I think people think will be far bigger than it really is. I bet very few people will actually be in their rooms and even aware of such a check taking place in order to make a fuss.

Many of your posts on this thread have been belittling of people who want to do simple things like stopping their use of single plastic straws. You can't really pull the "right to my opposing opinion" card while disparaging others for their opinions.

Just pondering here, but they could go to the refillable mug system that Universal has. With the refill stations actually in the parks.

I have never had a mug from Disney but Universal’s has a lid and plastic straw attached. So nothing to throw away at all. Of course you can’t require everyone to buy one but the mugs they have are pretty popular it seems.

If I was going with the grands, I would certainly buy mugs like that either one for everyone or a couple to share.
