Disney to eliminate plastic straws, hotel in-room plastics and plastic shopping bags

I do find it quite amusing how things went on my last visit to our local Disney store. This was my first visit since the change to no bags. I was buying a $3 plate off the clearance table. They tried to sell me a reusable bag for another dollar or two. I just laughed and said I didn't need the plate that bad and turned to leave. Suddenly the plate was in a plastic bag and they were taking my money.

I wasn't trying to be difficult. I just don't need more reusable bags and didn't feel like paying more for for what I was buying.

I'm OK with eliminating plastics and styrofoam. At the Disney Store the other day I did get a nice reusable bag for 99¢. In room, at least as far as DVC Studios, they've always used paper plates and bowls...and I prefer a good quality paper coffee cup over styrofoam. The only thing I'm not big on are the refillable soaps and toiletries, and that is because, in my personal experience, those dispensers tend to not work well most of the time. Even at home I prefer a good quality paper plate or bowl rather than plastic or styrene. I also prefer paper straws to plastic. I know a lot of folks seem to be using the washable stainless steel straws, but I don't want to carry a dirty straw around all day, and then have to wash it out. And if I want to use it in the parks multiple times, that means washing it out in a restroom...no thanks.

That's me looking for incandescent light bulbs.
We had our first lightbulb go out in our house (in the kitchen) about 2 weeks ago since it was built nearly 4 years ago.

All the can lights use flood light bulbs 65 watt I believe. Well they are the smaller bulb and our Walmart near us only had the larger sized bulb and it was slim pickens anyways on the flood light front. Luckily Ace Hardware not to far from Walmart had the smaller bulbs. I am not looking forward to hunting down the bulbs over time. In the kitchen alone we have 6 can lights ugh.

I feel like you are overlooking that k am all for change but they have not announced any alternative for the straws. No straws at at all is not reasonable in my opinion.
"Disney to eliminate plastic straws, hotel in-room plastics and plastic shopping bags" - so while specific replacement information isn't apparent, it's completely reasonable to expect these items will be replaced with other materials.

Otherwise, there would be no cups, etc., in resort rooms. Cup your hands under the faucet to get a drink of water? I don't think so.

If it's that much of a concern to Trader Joe's, then don't make it a choice. Just like Disney, just make a switch, in Trader Joe's case to all paper bags. But since they are giving us a choice, then make it a real CHOICE. Not the frowny faces when we choose plastic. Or when we choose paper the, "YAY! for choosing paper!" which I have gotten both of. Hence, the guilt trip. :headache:
You need to talk to management at that store.

If lt's more than one store, you need to contact corporate.

As has been said multiple times, by others as well as me, that it is NOT your opinion that anyone has a problem with. It's your phrasing: "they better," "they need to," etc. It comes across as rather demanding.

Exactly.

Actually, most dentists will tell you that drinking soda or juice (or anything with sugar or acidity) with a straw is better for your teeth because it limits the amount of fluid that comes into contact with your teeth. Otherwise, they are washed in the full force of each drink. This can be detrimental over time.

That is a myth that has been busted. Unless you put the straw directly down your throat, the drink is touching your teeth. Dentists will tell you to limit the amount of acidic drinks you have.

I was just going to post the same thing. I have cosmetic dental work that has cost me an arm and a leg over the years and there is no way I will be drinking juice or coffee without a straw ever. I'll bring my own.

It's reasonable to expect the styrofoam cups will be replaced by glasses. People just don't have faith that Disney housekeeping will have time to adequately clean them. So I guess we can now add "dish soap and sponge" to our Disney packing list.

I hadn’t even thought about how people who really want straws would have to bring multiple for a trip to the park, unless we’re packing the straw cleaner and washing it in a public bathroom sink.

Being at Disney is just so different to me than being at home, with the conveniences of home. Having to bring a straw to your local coffee shop or bags to the grocery store is a lot different than having to pack it for vacation in situations where you will be out for the entire day. Then most people go back to a hotel room without a dishwasher or washer machine. Better pack your dish brushes too.

I had no idea Trader Joe’s had plastic bags.:scared1:

I had no idea either. I’ve shopped there in 3 different locations and 2 different states. I get enough plastic bags for trash from shopping at other retailers anyway, so I much prefer the paper. I like to reuse those for donating.

I’ve always heard the straw-to-prevent-tooth-staining is disproven myth, but that there is truth in straw use causing lip wrinkles. :scratchin Each sip you take is the same lip-puckering action a smoker makes every time they take a puff. :smokin:

My mouth/lip area is 100% wrinkle free. No issues from a decade of straw drinking. Myth.
