Disney the week of New Years?

Hi! I am new to the board, but have been lurking for awhile. We leave for Disney on New Years Day, and will be spending the whole week there. myself, dear husband, 11 month old baby girl, and my mother. First trip for my mom & daughter! Any one been this time of year? We won't be visiting any parks on New Years day, heard it is really busy! Thanks for any input!

It is a great time of year to go IMO. We always start on January 2nd, but this year we are going on the 1st. Be sure to wear layers as it will be pretty chilly in the morning. Crowds after the 1st are non-existent. Honestly it seems there are more Europeans there at that time than Americans. I usually feel like I am out of the country as most people around me were speaking another language. It's my family's favorite time of the year to go.

You'll find New Years Day and the next couple of days extremely busy, but then things begin to slow down a bit around the 3rd or 4th of January. If you plan for parks that absorb crowds well (Epcot, SeaWorld, Busch Gardens if you're going that far....) you should be fine the first couple of days. Downtown Disney and the Boardwalk Resort also make a good New Years Day activity out of the parks.

If you are only visiting Disney, just be ready for huge crowds for a couple of days and know you won't 'see everything'. It does help to be prepared for long lines, so if you know you're going to wait a bit hopefully you can enjoy the parks anyway. FastPass should help!

Personally just plan on not doing everything.

If you want to just go and enjoy the atmosphere you will enjoy yourself.

The crowds are super heavy, however, the fireworks at Epcot are NOT TO BE MISSED. Let's just say............well................insanity in the sky.
