Hey there, I was wondering if there's anyone about that wants to chat who's thinking of applying to the Summer Associate program next summer? (Not sure if the talent development thing is the same thing - bit confused!)

I want to do the animation program, so it'd be great if there was someone who's wanting to do the same that I could chat to/post to but anyone else is brill too!

I live in England so I'd have to be carted a long way to get to California! Any more Briton's here on this board?

Let me know :goodvibes

I also want to apply. Animation's my dream, especially traditional! I'm trying to make sure I have a good portfolio/ reel together.

I think it's something like an apprenticeship.
There are a range of fields to apply for....

Story
Technical Director – Character
Visual Development
Technical Director – Hair/Cloth
Modeling
Technical Director – Look
Animation
Technical Director – Effects
Layout
Technical Director – Pipeline
Texture Painting
Effects Animation
Lighting & Compositing

Sounds about right, but is each of those (on each line) a different topic you can apply for?

Yeah the program is basically an internship.

Does anyone know if it's available to people outside the USA?

Pinch, i came across this thread and it actually made me join the DIS, it appears your in a similar situation as me, I have seen that they do accept people from outside the USA (thank god), but you must have eligibility to work in the US (i.e. you need a visa, either non immigrant, or residence card).

I am in a similar situation and would love to take up the talent development program, im just not sure if they would take on an 18 year old, i am just finishing my final year of Digital Arts and Animation in Hinckley College. And i am in the West Midlands.

This site may be of some use to you it definitely is for me.

Just wanted to nudge this thread up incase anyone else who was applying hadn't seen it!

Due date: March 20th! :o I'm still frantically working..

Hi everybody! I'm going to be applying for the associate program either next year or the year after, as I am only a freshman in college right now, but I'm glad to have found some others who are applying.

I was hoping that some of you could let me know how it goes when you do apply for this summer. Like what kind of stuff did you include in your portfolio? Are you submitting an actual physical portfolio or are you sending digital files? If you're accepted, what did they have to say about your work? What did they like? If you're rejected, do they give any tips or pointers on how to improve for next time you apply?

Basically, ANY info at all would be extremely appreciated. I've wanted to be a Disney animator since I was five years old, and I'm absolutely determined. Good luck to all you who are applying this year, and PLEASE let me know how it goes!

Actually, I think the deadline is April 20th, so you've got a month more! =)

Are you 100% sure? I kept seeing things that said deadline was March 20th, and people seem to be getting told whether or not they've got the place in March, hence I was pretty sure it was March..

Although yesterday I did see one that said April O.O

Ahhhhhhhh! *screams*

Hello, I haven't applied yet, but when I do I will be submitting my images digitally by uploading them onto their special page where you submit your CV(resume) and submissions forms.

What I did and I wish I'd done earlier was get in touch with lots of animators already in the business (not necessarily Disney ones) and ask what would be the best things to submit. I think it'd be lots of examples of your own character design, model sheets, expressions, action shots, showing lots of movements, etc etc. There's tonnes of stuff you can do :)

Aww I wish I'd done animation now, haha! I'm applying for storyboarding.

I'm just going by what the website says

But it might be a good idea to aim for the March date, just in case! ;)

Arghh trundling along at a steady pace unfortuantely.
I have so much degree work along with a work placement this week so whilst it's great it is time consuming..

How's yours Mikelo? and what are you applying for?

Hahaha, funny but I'm actually not applying--my boyfriend is. So I've been helping him research all the requirements and such, and I'm just interested in the art production side of movies in general. But he's moving along at a very similar pace. His degree work is also very time consuming coupled with what he's trying to complete for his application. He hasn't decided on what to apply for just yet, but I'm pretty sure he will go for something like texture painting. He did storyboarding for some local film artists a couple of months back, but he wasn't too into it (although, I think it had more to do with the subject matter than the actual storyboarding...)

But let me know how your application goes when the time comes! I'm rooting for you!! :thumbsup2

My roommate is an art direction major and she is apply for the modeling program. I was helping her get her portfolio together last night. I've been trying to get her to apply for a month or two now, since I've already applied in post production and potentially have an interview next week. I do not have to submit a portfolio, but good luck with all of yours! keep me posted, if it all works out, it would be nice to know some people. :thumbsup2

i'll keep my fingers crossed!

Hey, to those who are international to the US and who are wondering about work Visas, I emailed Disney and they said that upon being accepted to the program they get you the Visa.

Which is a weight off my mind :)

..now to finish my damn portfolio!
