Disney Store Times Square Location - Opening Fall 2010

PASADENA, Calif., Jan 05, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) ----Disney Store will transform an expansive retail space in the heart of New York's Times Square into a magical state-of-the-art, interactive retail destination set to open in fall 2010. The lease signed with Vornado Realty Trust, negotiated by RCS Real Estate Advisors, and brokered by SRS Real Estate Partners secured the location at 1540 Broadway, between 45th and 46th Street. Inspired by Walt Disney's legacy of creativity and innovation, the new Disney Store will celebrate Disney's long-standing history with the city that never sleeps.

Since the debut of Walt Disney's audio-animatronic figures at the New York World's Fair in 1964, Disney designers, architects, and engineers have utilized technology to bring new immersive experiences to the city. Continuing the legacy, Disney Store will incorporate technologically advanced displays including an interactive Disney Princess castle to serve as one of many magical centerpieces at the new Times Square location. An all-new children's theater will feature the latest Disney entertainment, classic animation, and continue Disney's rich tradition of storytelling.

"Bringing Disney Store to the center of Times Square is a monumental achievement, and we have created a retail experience that complements the energy and innovation that Times Square inspires," said Jim Fielding, president of Disney Stores Worldwide. "We're focused on reinvigorating retail and providing a unique shopping destination to millions of families from all over the world who travel to New York for a magical experience."

"Disney's bold move to restore 42nd Street's greatest landmark theater in the 1990s was the turning point in Times Square's recent history. We are thrilled that Disney is bringing its creative energies yet again to Times Square with this new Disney Store. An iconic brand is coming again to America's most iconic place," said Tim Tompkins, president of Times Square Alliance.

Renovations will begin soon at the Times Square location, designed to showcase a wide assortment of products inspired by iconic Disney characters and key entertainment properties. The newly-designed Disney Store will facilitate interactive play and imagination, host children's activities, special events, and celebrity appearances. Over the next five years Disney Store plans to strategically balance its retail portfolio, enter new markets, and transform more than 300 locations across the US and Europe to feature the new design.

Yes, I believe it is.
You can see on Google Maps street view for 45th & Bwy- it shows a Virgins Megastore just north of 45th with a big Vornado Retail sign on it- that's got to be the new location.
Pretty cool- can't wait to see it when it opens.

Yay!! I was so upset about the WoD Store closing. Now at least I know why they closed it! I'm so happy this store is opening in Times Square, since when I go to NYC, that is where I spend most of the day!

Mine too - I think we should have a DIS meet for the opening!
Once they announce a firm date we should pick a convenient time for everyone to get together and check out the new store!!! (maybe even lunch at ESPN Zone for a full-Disney themed day!)

I don't think it will be taking over the old Virgin Megastore location. I did hear that the clothing store Century 21 was going to move in there. Of course that was a rumor made some time ago.

For those who live or travel to NYC you may remember a bar called Bar Code (and more recently Charmin took it over during the holidays) that is next door to the once mega Virgin Megastore. My thoughts are that this is the location of the new Disney Store. I could be (and hope I am wrong). I would love for store to take up the Virgin megastore location. Three huge floors of Disney which also houses a movie theater would be a great way to spend the day.

Maybe D23 will make it a special event for its members.

Would love to be met all of you as well. I haven't met others who share my love of everything Disney.

The virgin mega store location was split up. The other store going in did not take all tehe space. I am gathering this new disney store will take the rest of the space that the other store didnt take.

Century 21 is a real estate company

Forever 21 is a clothing store.

I believe it's Forever 21 that is moving into part of the old Virgin Megastore.

Glad to hear Disney will be back in NYC! I hope they will carry Disney NYC logo items again.

Actually Century 21 is a very large clothing/department store here. Its claim to fame is selling very expensive designer clothes for less. I believe there is one going into Manhattan. We have one on LI and it is great - although I can't afford the high end stuff, they have really cute & different childrens clothes and shoes that are affordable.

Exciting! Glad we got to visit the one on 5th Avenue last spring before it closed, but so happy that a Disney Store is moving into Times Square.

Very cool news! A little piece of Disney, just an hour or so from my front door again! This also gives me another excuse to get to New York again! (Love the city, and my kids are finally getting old enough to enjoy some of the sights and sounds).
