Disney Store Employee Discounts?

How much of a discount do employees of the Disney Stores (the ones around the country in various malls and such) get as far as merchandise or traveling to Disney World itself? My wife and I have always wondered if it would be worth it to get a part-time job.

Thanks.

If you would like to know about the castmember discounts at TDS, you will need to go and apply. Cm's are not supposed to discuss their benefits. You might find some that will, but your best bet is to speak to management at the store.

My advice is to think if you want to work for Disney, or if you just want to do it for the discounts... it is alot of hard work, and the pay is not much more than minimum wage. Most people who work for the stores, and the parks LOVE Disney and would be there regardless. The rest is just icing on the cake.

I am sure that few people would expect NOT to have to work hard and then be entitled to wonderful benefits. Working at TDS would be, in my mind, a very good opportunity - being able to work for a company that we all love, to get paid for it (albeit a pittance - but that can go in our change jars. ;) ) and to get some discounts for trips that we are all trying to save money on.

TDS CM benefits are something that I am always curious about as well. :)

At TDS stores the least % is 20 and the most I believe is 30%( after many many years).

Discount on tickets has been decreased over the years. Use to be substantial now is fair.

Pay is pretty much minimum $5.25.

Hours most stores Part Timers get may be 2/3 shifts aweek. There is also the on call possiblity...you are scheduled for a shift and need to call 2-3hrs prior to see if they need you. You are not allowed to request time off between Halloween and after the new year...yes this even applies to part timers.

Co-workers is a great perk because everybody you work with are disney fanatics just like you.

Extra money thing really doesn't apply because you make so little and you spend it all on the store....so even with a discount you don't really save anything.:D :D

WOW!!!!
For all of you who missed it I just quadruple posted......I'm amazed at my abilities:D :D

Sorry that I missed it ZW! :teeth:

I spoke with a CM yesterday who is going to WDW the same time we are and I got a better rate at ASMo than he did! :earseek:

It is not unusual for a regular guest to get better rates than CMs at the resorts at WDW. There are times that the discount codes either equal or are better than CM rates.

Zurg's Wife is correct--no time off AT ALL for ANY REASON from November 1 till after the New Year. This applies to ALL cast members at the Disney Stores, full-time, part-time, or seasonal.

There are a probability. And they can occur multiple times a week. Also if you want to work TDS be prepared to give FULL (that means open till close) weekend availability if you are serious about being hired. You won't work open to close but you need to be available to cover any shift during that time. It's also good to remember that most malls are open extended hours during the holiday season.

Some stores are hiring "casuals" for the holidays, but this mean no time off from Nov. until Jan. (and a couple of weeks in Oct) So if you're thinking TDS and have holiday plans or just want the discount for your holiday trip you might be disappointed.

Thanks for all the information. I'd LOVE to work for Disney World in Orlando, but I've heard it's very difficult to get in and doesn't pay much at all (supporting a family, that is a consideration with me).

I thought working part time for TDS would be fun. It sounds like you really have to make a committment -- which is fine with me since it probably helps keep the quality of service high.

Maybe I'll go in and talk to management at our local store.

OOOh, y'all got poor doug so excited he had to post three times!:jester:

Not quite the record that ZW claims ( ;) ) but a very good example of huge excitement Dear Doug. Now I wonder how many duplicate posts you would make if you won a trip to WDW??? :teeth: :teeth: :teeth: ;) ;) ;)

Doug you seem to be more of the type of employee that Disney seeks...one who is committed, understands the commitment and will follow through once the commitment is made, and not let fellow employees left in a lurch to cover shifts for you because you "didn't understand" how much of a commitment Disney expects.

The best advice would be to head into your local store and ask to speak to the manager. I think that most of your questions would be answered and you can then decide if it is right for you.

Mickey4ver is giving you good advice. Now is the time to apply for a seasonal position at your local DS, if you are interested, and serious. Any part-time job is a commitment. Keep that in mind - especially since you have a family. If you are like me, who has a full and part time job, it takes time away from your family. i get tons of flack from my mom because I don't spend Thanksgiving with her brothers & sisters anymore, that I have to work "black Friday" and the day after Christmas. Just keep that in mind. :D
