Disney Store Discount ending?

As my husband was obtaining our 10% discount on the 3 $10 DVDs we were purchasing today in the Asheville Mall in NC, one of the CMs said to the girl who was having trouble ringing our discount up that they wouldn't have to worry about it much longer because the discounts were expiring at the end of the year.

Now, apparently there was a DVC button or some such on the register, so they knew they weren't dealing with the Disney Club (which would expire at the end of *next* year anyway, not this year) - so is there something that I haven't heard going on with the Disney Store discount? I know I hardly shop there enough for it to matter much, but it's really handy on even the full pice DVDs, as it makes them about the same price as they would be at the local discount stores.

Mur!

When I bought my $10 DVD at TDS, I was told that I could not use my 10% discount of DVC or DC member. But I was able to get 10% off for Lilo and Stitch DVD or any other items at the store. But from other boards, people were able to use their 10% off card.

In the other boards, Disney Club card will expire 12/2003. As for the DVC member card, I don't know.

In one of the recent communications from DVC, we were told to inform them if we don't get our discount. I think they are expecting a problem when the DC expires.

FWIW, I got the 10% dvc discount on the $10 sale dvds.

I also got my DVC discount on the $10 DVDs I bought.

Since they just reinforced the DVC discount, I doubt it would go away soon. But stranger things have happened :)

I think the CM was just confused, or the info that got passed from district manager to store manager to employee to other employee got messed up somewhere. And the CM was thinking DC and was thinking (incorrectly) it ended this year.

I think the CM was obviously confusing DVC and the Disney Club. But in this regard she would also be wrong, as Disney Club will not be offerred after December 31st, the benefits for valid members WILL continue until December 31st 2003.

I was at TDS last weekend and received the 10% discount on a video and a handful of pins that were on sale. I did not know that The Disney Club will expire 12/03. Are they doing away with TDC all together?? Heck,if that is the case we should be grateful we get the 10% with our DVC card!!!

The Disney Club will fade in to history December 31st, 2003. Renewals will sieze on December 31st of 2002. It will be replaced by a credit card arrangement between Bank One and Disney. I don't know the details as to weather it is a MC or Visa card, but I am sure we will all be martketing targets in the not to distant future.

I am confused about the Disney Club expiring. We has both the DC and DVC; however, I was able to book on-ship cabin credits for DC members for our cruise next year. The CM never said anything about it expiring; he just told me to be sure and renew in January 2003 so I have proof of DC membership when we board the ship.

Now I am really confused?????

Actually, I live in Durham. We were visiting to meet with some relatives who were visiting people in Canton. Got to see some of Canton - it seems a quaint, nice town. We loved Ashevile, too - we plan to spend some of our DVC points at the Grove Park Inn sometime in the next couple of years!

You will need to renew by 12/12/2002 if you want to be a member until the Club is discontinued. You should be receiving info on the end of the club directly from the DC sometime this month. The following is from the Disney Club Members' Website:

Important Disney Club News

Dear Disney Club Members,

At this time, we regret to announce that The Disney ClubSM will be closing on December 31, 2003. We would like to assure you however, that we will continue to offer full benefits to all of our Members throughout the upcoming year. An official announcement will arrive in the mail shortly along with a 2003 Update to your Member Kit and your October minizine.

This means you will still be able to enjoy exclusive savings on Disney vacations, special offers and other Members-only privileges through the expiration date listed on your Membership Card or December 31, 2003, whichever comes first. We will continue accepting renewals and new memberships through December 12, 2002.

If you have made vacation plans to one of our Disney Theme Parks and your membership expires before your date of travel, you may renew your membership prior to December 12, 2002 to ensure that you will have an active membership card when you arrive at the resort. Should you decide to renew early, we ask that you wait until late October before you call to renew your membership as we continue to work out the final details for early renewals.

Although we are closing The Disney ClubSMat the end of 2003, we will continue to bring you new ways of connecting to the magic of Disney and will be in touch with you as exciting new opportunities develop.

Sincerely,
Dinah Keefe
Disney Club Vice President

Carol

Thank you so much for the information. I will be sure that I renew in order to keep the on board credit.
