Disney stopped selling toy guns

Yeah, stupid Americans, clinging to God, family, and country. It's amazing that anyone volunteers to give their life to defend this country anymore, when they hear people every day born and raised under this flag who think it's such a stupid place to live.

I know - like Donald Trump, right? I get so tired of hearing him talk about how terrible America is.

I think most everyone loves their family (unless their family was truly rotten to them) and their country (unless it got blown up... and even then, they may be optimistically hoping to rebuild from the ashes) and has some conception of a greater power/reason for being (God, Allah, Buddha, Krishna, Buckminster Fuller's Universal Integrity, Science, the collective awesomeness of human consciousness, whatever), no matter where in this great world they come from.

Disagreeing on something like whether or not toy guns are a necessary part of your theme park experience does not make a person any more or less of a patriot (even assuming everyone here is American, which we aren't).

Twenty years ago my brother was mad that we brought home his son a Star Wars gun. He didn't want him having guns of any type.
I forgot my Han Solo blaster earlier. That was my favorite gun as a kid. Didn't even have an orange tip!

I wasn't responding to people arguing about toy guns. I was responding to your comment about all the meaningless things most Americans cling to. I get tired of hearing how backward and stupid we all are.

yet the same people complaining about American ideals can't get enough of one of the most American things ever...Disney.

I wish they still sold toy guns in the shops, just because I think that is something cool to have in Frontierland and Tommorowland among other places. However, if getting rid of those somehow increases safety and helps the security folks do their jobs better, then I am good with it.

That wasn't my comment. :) And I don't think you all are backward or stupid, in the least.

One of the things I love about Disney, and something I noticed particularly on this last visit, is how multinational a community it is. Disney really IS a place where people of all backgrounds, religions, political affiliations, nationalities and races can come together with genuine good will toward each other.

Yes, it's grounded in the American mythos, but it's an idealized America - not us versus them, but a place where everyone's welcomed "home".

Amen. As an asian American growing up in iowa at seven years old I told my parents I loved this place cuz there are actually people that looked like me! I love it to this very day

Anyone who feels safer because Disney stopped selling toy guns probably doesn't need to be out in public with all the crazies to begin with.

And just to clarify my statement, I meant that Disney's implementation of the security measures are just as much a "feel good" show as anything. I was not saying that I personally felt a "security show" was important or of any help.

However, I do believe they are concerned about security, and I do believe they truly want their guests to fell comfortable.

Getting rid of toy guns and squirt guns at Disney World does not solve anything...feel good measure

After getting clobbered hard on the back of my head by a light saber when I was there in early December I wish they'd quit selling those. Or at least make sure they are kept closed

This reminds me of when the kids did Pirates league, they were handed a sword and took an oath that they wouldn't hit anything r anyone without a sword themselves...there was alot of kids we came across with swords and mini sword fights happened all over the place

While I agree what difference does it really make whether or not they sell toy guns? It's not going to impact my day to day activities in the parks at all

I'm not typically a tin foil hat type conspiracy theorist but I can't help but shake the feel that all of this means there are some serious credible threats against the happiest place on earth...which makes me so sad!

I agree although my bet is that it was for Disneyland and is linked to the 1000 schools closed this week

It is a reasonable move for a monument like WDW, not to mention there are many things that were commonly done or played or watched or said when I was a child 30 years ago that really don't have a place in 2015.

And there goes most of the souvenir dollars from boys! Nice Disney. Guess the kid will be getting even more stuff from universal then. Not sure why he needs so many wands from wizarding world but oh well.

Wands are not anything like guns - my guess is there was a credible threat (or a cluster of them) and Disney is doing something to make it a bit safer, or easier, to handle a situation if it arises.

no masks is all they said or no costumes? Curious because our teenaged daughter likes to dress as a princess and a Jedi while at Disney - she doesn't wear makeup or pretend to be 'that' princess but has loads of fun the in Elsa outfit her granny made her. I'm quietly stressing about this new rule - I want everyone to be safe but have a hard time even vaguely thinking she looks scary/ threatening or hiding something ....

Disneybounding is ok - dressing in a costume is not.

Everyone can we leave the lady alone, she was expressing her opinion about her boys, she isnt wrong, its her situation and others as well. Dont turn this thread into a flamefest or political conversation.

No, the sexist part was that she stated boys, not 'her boys'.

So if Disney is banning toy guns does that mean the shooting gallery and the towers on Tom Sawyer Island will be gunless? I suppose buzz light year will need to be revamped as well as toy story at the studios. Interesting!

Jumping to conclusions here - removing toy guns that could be mistaken for real ones (as stated before , thinking there must have been a credible threat) and thinking it's a an anti-gun statement that will change the focus of attractions? really?

Anyone who feels safer because Disney stopped selling toy guns probably doesn't need to be out in public with all the crazies to begin with.

My guess is they think the crazies have a plan, and removing the play guns from the park makes it easier to respond to a situation.

This January will be my family's LAST Disney trip. If I could cancel and get my money back, I would.

Seriously?

See above - it removes a whole bunch of distractions in a real threat.
