But we all have to agree that Disney didn't put the metal detectors in without some good reason, and that not having replica guns to sort out from real guns will likely make the screening process somewhat quicker.

Agreed. I truly think the removal of the toy guns has more to do with the "sorting out" part than any type of political action. If there are no guns, there are no guns, and, hopefully, no way for security personnel (or guests) to confuse real and fake under this new scenario as neither will be present anymore.

For me, I say hurray!!! No longer will I have to debate my DS8 as we walk through Frontierland. "Can I have a rifle? No. How about now? No. How about on the way back? No. How about tomorrow? No. On the next trip? How about never. How does never sound?"

It does surprise and somewhat worry me that it's happening on the same day as metal detectors and a new costume policy.

I heard bubble guns are indeed gone and for now anything with a trigger was removed from sale.

This makes me really sad. My kids would play forever in front of the CMs using the bubble guns, just popping the bubbles.

You're also expressing an opinion based on anecdotal experiences. I can introduce you to numerous people your age who grew up with guns and are responsible users and owners and enjoy both the sports aspects and desire them for protection OR just played with them as kids and don't own them now. Even based on the limited research it doesn't appear that there is some generational belief difference.

I think you misunderstood what I was saying. I don't get the outrage from people who are that upset over Disney not selling toy guns any longer. They're just items, the inclusion or lack of availability of them sold in the parks shouldn't make or break someone's vacation. That was the point I was trying to express my confusion over, it was just worded poorly.

At riverside now. Just got a phone message saying no toy guns allowed in parks and no masks for adults. Sad imo, I remember being a 7 year old boy 32 years ago and being so happy in my coonskin cap toting around my musket.

I'm right there with you. Back in the olden days when each area had its own merchandise I remember having Mickey coon skinned hats and Davey Crockett muskets and running around Tom Sawyer island shooting at other kids who had their own guns doing the same. I can't swear to it but I'm betting based on sheer volumes of kids and guns sold that the vast majority of us didn't end up running around and randomly shooting people as adults.

As a previous poster noted I grew up with toy guns all around. Not just the musket from Disney but the blunderbuss and pistols from PotC as well. I had GI Joe, BB guns and my dad even helped me paint my plastic M16 to look like the one he had in the army for Halloween one year. I even played video games and listened to loud music yet to date I don't own a gun and I've never just flown into acts of violence. These things have nothing to do with the items and everything to do with the individual. You aren't going to stop the minority by penalizing the majority.

What are all these other souvenirs people are speaking of? Ever since my dear sweet 2 year old *bit a "blaster" shape into a piece of toast he was eating* and started "pew pew pew"ing, this pacifist mom kind of gave up on that front. He has a large "weapons bin" in his room that holds the Nerf blasters, star wars, pirates, etc weapons, and the swords (galore) and light sabers... Any non-clothing non-weapon souvenir he has is because I thought it was cute.

I grinned ear to ear at this, as this is 100% my son! He has used his souvenir money on a gun EVERY trip, plus some swords and lightsabers for good measure. And not ONE of them remotely resembles a real weapon. I guess if they're not there, they'll buy cars or something, but I find it a little ridiculous to call that sexist. I doubt our two boys are the only ones buying them or they wouldn't be in practically every store.

And if that's not controversial enough for the boards, my boy has a BB gun, two bows, a rifle, and (under the Christmas tree now) a shotgun of his very own!!

So if Disney is banning toy guns does that mean the shooting gallery and the towers on Tom Sawyer Island will be gunless? I suppose buzz light year will need to be revamped as well as toy story at the studios. Interesting!

The reality is that "stopping" something is only part of the reason for new security measures. Agree or disagree, a showing to make people feel safer is just as big a part as any actual improvement in security. A "random sampling" could deter someone, but is no iron clad guarantee...and frankly, what ever could be.

That's true of so many things Americans seem to hold near and dear to them. Clinging to things that in the end either don't matter much at all, or do active harm in one way or another. It's all a matter of perspective.

Yeah, stupid Americans, clinging to God, family, and country. It's amazing that anyone volunteers to give their life to defend this country anymore, when they hear people every day born and raised under this flag who think it's such a stupid place to live.
