Disney stock really shot up today. 4% so far. The earnings report was much better than expected. It's a great sign that Disney is alive and well and maybe will begin to reinstate some of the downsizing they had to do because of the economic downturn. It is my belief that Disney wants to turn out the best product they can but will not let the business suffer to do that. They have to cut when times are bad. We shall wait and see.

It is just pennies away from its all-time high of $43.88 per share, set on 5/1/2000.

Sing along with me...

"Split, baby, split! (splittin' inferno) Split, baby, split!"

It hit $43.90 earlier today. Is that the all time high. I was trying to find that out and I thought I read in the 90's it was over $100 and actually did a 4 to 1 split? I bought mine 2 years ago for under $19 each. I am so mad I didn't buy more but can't complain at how well it's doing!

I bought some and am still buying more for my son. He is 1 and i figure by the time he is 18 i may have enough in there to pay for college. Wished i have bought for $19. Good for you. Hang onto it.

Hard to say if they will reinstate any of the CMs previously cut. There is a protest going on today just off WDW property. CMs are picketing the proposed new contract. They say that the proposed raise for CMs does not cut it because the contract also raises the amounts CMs must pay for health insurance. In the long run, most CMs will actually be losing money if the contract is accepted.

According to local news, some CMs may try to picket in character costumes. That should be interesting...in a bad way!

I recieved a 1% raise this year but what i have to pay for my health insurance went up 10% and my employer covers less of the cost so i actually bring home less than last year. You have to have a masters degree to do my job and i sure won't complain with the amount of people being laid off. I would be extremely concerned about my job if i were in a low skill position and i was picketing. Things will get better in a few years. I'm just thankful i still have a good job.

The portion of the Disney company making money is not the theme parks by far. If you dig int the numbers, the ESPN portion of Disney accounted for half of the profit of the entire company in the 3rd quarter of 2010 and continues to be the money machine behind all they do.

From an article I read:

(Indeed, in the third quarter of 2010, ESPN provided half of the profit of the entire Disney Company. Think about that for a second: add up all of Toy Story 3 ticket sales, all of the people visiting Disney World and Disneyland, all of the Mickey Mouse and Winnie the Pooh swag sold, all of the ABC advertising revenue, all of the Disney books and DVDs hawked, all of the High School Musical and Hannah Montana crap, all of the Disney Broadway show tickets, and revenue from thousands of other Disney properties, and they still weren’t as profitable altogether as ESPN was by itself. That’s power.)

This is really more of a Disney company topic than a theme parks one. So I've moved this thread to the Rumors and News board. :)

I have been a shareholder for about 2 years (not a lot, but still!) and have never received anything regarding Disney shareholder meetings, reports or whatnot. The stock is held at Fidelity, don't they forward that sort of thing to us? I would love to know how this works, as this is really the only stock I actually care about and would want to see this stuff. Imagine how depressed I was when I found out that last year's shareholder meeting was being held in San Antonio, TX, where live and I only found out about it on the day of the meeting. I would have taken my kids, they bring characters to these meetings.

I did call Disney corporate and tried to ask questions but I really didn't get any good answers. I know there is a Disney investor site, but not too much info there either. Would appreciate anything you can tell me, thanks!!!

I am a Disney shareholder, and so are my kids. I keep the stock certificates for my shares in a safe deposit box. My kids’ shares are held in street name at Fidelity.

My kids get all the same shareholder communications that I do, except I receive mine a few days before they get theirs. Coincidentally enough, I just received the 2010 annual report in the mail today. I’ll post on this thread again when their reports arrive.

I'm not surprised that Disney corporate couldn't provide you with much help regarding the delivery of these materials. You should contact Fidelity.

BTW, this year’s shareholders meeting is in Salt Lake City on March 23.

Companies have legal obligations to send this to shareholders. Perhaps you opted out from recieving these materials?

As far as taking kids to a shareholder meeting. Do you know that most of the meeting will be about Disney's TV networks not Mickey Mouse and Big Thunder Mountain which kids would enjoy.
