Any thoughts out there on how the new Disney Springs may (or may not) impact resale at SSR? It's currently one of the lower cost resorts to buy in to- I'm wondering if that might change. Might be a good time to buy!? Sorry- thinking aloud as I recapitulate after losing BLT contract!

I too just lost a BLT to ROFR! We now have a contract in to Disney at SSR. I really liked the idea of being walking distance to all the restaurants and entertainment Disney Springs will have to offer. And they just finished the bridge that should make it even easier to walk to.

Oh no- so sorry! Good luck with the new contract. Maybe this was a blessing in disguise, no? At the very least it will save some money!!

My thoughts are that one can go to an open air shopping mall with national chain restaurants most anywhere in the country. At the end of the day, DTD/DS is just a nice example of that.

Disney theme parks on the other hand, you can only get at two places in the country.

Therefore I don't believe the DTD remodel will offer any additional price support to SSR. Value to owners: maybe. But price support: no.

I do wonder if the DTD remodel may make SSR somewhat more desirable to current owners as a booking destination. Even there, though, I'm still skeptical. It didn't make it more desirable before they tore the heck out of DTD for the remodel- or even back when SSR was new and pleasure island was going full force.

I'm an SSR fan, make no mistake. But buying SSR as a commodity thinking the DTD refurb will increase its' value would be a poor choice. Instead buy there if you want to stay there, or at least if you would be happy to stay there if you couldn't book a near-park resort.

IMO Disney Springs won't change SSR sales at all. It's not a park, just a shopping/eating location.

We own at both BLT and SSR. We recently bought at SSR though (just closed last month). The reason when we were adding on we decided on SSR was the draw of being close to DTD (not necessarily with Springs addition).

We do a lot of cruising out of Port Canaveral and we stay at Disney the night before the cruise. We figured staying at SSR if we don't have an AP will give us the option of having something right there to do vs staying elsewhere. We also figured (again if no AP) the day of arrival or departure we could have DTD to entertain us. We also like DTD in the evening but we don't like how crowded it gets. We dread having to get on a crowded bus and having to stand for the ride back to our resort. Now when we stay at SSR it won't matter as when DTD gets too crowded and we leave we just walk on back.

I tend to agree. I think it'll boost demand slightly for a 2-3 yr window but not enough to move the needle and likely not any in 5-10 yrs. Ultimately I think the ship has sailed on any real chance to increase the demand there and that most opportunities were lost in the planning phase. All they can do now is a little window dressing here and there.

It was rumored a long time ago that a monorail expansion could be developed which would involve Saratoga Springs. SSR owners all have to sign an agreement in their ownership paperwork that states Disney could build a monorail track on the SSR property which would increase sound and light levels. The station would be located between the Congress park section of Saratoga Springs and the Market Place section of Downtown Disney. To be exact, right beside where the new bridge was just built. What a coincidence...hmmm...:rolleyes2 Do I think this monorail expansion will happen? Not anytime soon. If Disney Springs has a phenomenally great or phenomenally poor response, I think the chances of the monorail expansion are much greater. The monorail would be ideal to handle massive overcrowding of the current bus system or to motivate attendance at a failing Park. Consider the beginning of EPCOT. Crowds were dismal during the beginning operation of the Park so Disney added monorail service as an incentive for visitors to attend. It worked wonderfully! ;) If the monorail is expanded to SSR as a result of Disney Springs, SSR resales will go through the roof.

Interesting!

I heard this will never happen. And that the problem is that Disney can no longer build a monorail for a $Million a mile. If they could, they would jump on it in a flash. In this day of light rail, Disney should consider that system. However, I don't know how that would work with all the swamps.

The plans were changed due to cost, they needed money for Iger's bonus and contract extension. :goodvibes

The Disney Springs monorail project was modified and became a Disney Springs mono-bridge between DS and SSR.

Developing a monorail expansion to SSR/DTD area would be tremendously expensive but I do think there is a small possibility that this could materialize in the future. Disney just spent a billion dollars developing Fastpass+ because they know it will save them money in the long run. With the price of diesel fuel rising consistently and the possibility that Disney Springs could demand a massive increase in the transportation system, the monorail expansion would pay for itself in the long run.

You are correct, it's all about the numbers. Iger has already announced the MDE and MB's are making Disney money with just with the additional spending attributed to the MB's point of sale feature.

Moving more people faster through the parks and into the stores are a plus. DS is a money maker but the majority of the venues are not Disney owned. Hard to say if the lease payments and their cut of sales will be enough for them to spend millions on a monorail.

Funny you mention above. This was one of the reasons why we choose SSR. I love the fact that it is big, like we have the option of Treehouses (although I never stayed in one LOL) and LOVE that it is in walking distance or boat to DTD.

Kids get older and that is what we thought about when we purchased. My kids are now almost 21 and 16 and I love the fact that if they wanted to, in the evenings, they can walk to DTD for something to do or when they are older, bring their friends. My dd can bring friends if she likes, can go to the bars in a few months and walk back to SSR. We can make plans for dinner, bowling, movies, DQ and not have to rely on busses or parking.

I really don't know why people don't get the draw but that makes it good for us owners LOL

We own at SSR, BLT, and AKL. We love SSR when we go during the off seasons. We like that we can go to DD in the evenings after the parks close.

Our family is exactly the same. The kids love being close to DS/DTD, as do we. The only downside is the use of the SSR buses by people wanting to go to DS.
