Disney Smells

The damp smell heading down the queue to Pirates of the Caribbean. Kind of a 'basement-y" smell..but I like it anyway!!!
The smell of the water rides. (Whoa! Ever smell your hair after it has gotten a splash of Splash Mtn?!! Like laundry you forgot in the washing machine for wayyyy too long...Ewww!)
That Circus elephant smell on the Monorail. What the heck is that anyway!!?
The burning smell in Spaceship Earth while Rome is burning!!!!!!

Can't wait to smell the smells in Aug!!!

I totally agree with you about the queue line for POTC

Spaceship Earth
Popcorn
The smells on Soarin

This is a great thread! I have many favorite smell, but I will try to narrow it down.:)

1. lobby at AKL-it screams "Welcome back"
2. popcornpopcorn::
3. HM-I don't know if it's a musty smell or what, but I always notice it.
4. water rides like SM and POTCpirate:
5. Flame Tree BBQ-it always makes me hungry, even if I've just eaten!

There's more, but I'll stop.

1. Diesel Exhaust
2. Rome burning (DGF bought me a wood burning candle)
3. Desert smell (Living with the land)
4. The main st smell of cotton candy, popcorn, and baked goods
5. The distinct smell of the WL and BWI

This thread brings back Disney memories!!:goodvibes

My fave smells are:

The smell when you walk on the monorail
The smell when you walk into your resort room
The early morning smell when you open your balcony at the WL or GF- (my fave of all time)
The smell when you walk on Main Street after you go under the train station
Smell of the piped in cookie smell at the bake shop
Smell of POtC ride
Smell of the Roman empire part on SE
Smell of Disney buses inside and the fumes
The different food smells of TomorrowLand when you ride the TTA
Smell of the go karts at the speedway
Smell of Flame Tree BBQ in the AK

This isnt a smell....but another magical "sensory" thing for me....
When you eat at Tusker House in the AK, you can eat outside and you can hear someone sweeping and cabinets slamming and dishes clanking! When Im at home doing those things, I ALWAYS close my eyes and Im right back there eating breakfast and hearing those things while smelling the smells of the Tusker House!

IM READY TO GO BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I absolutely love the smells (and the tastes) of the mission tortilla factory at DCA.

OK...now on my next trip I'm going to have to go to the Polynesian just so I can smell the lobby!:goodvibes

I LOVE this smell too! I was going to write that in my post, but I didn't know how to describe it, :rotfl: :goodvibes . I could just wait forever in that line for Pirates! I think it is a combonation of the A/C with the stone and the water.

I'm another one who's a sucker for the GF lobby. The GF lobby gets ALL my senses going! :cloud9:

Hi folks, saw this thread the other day and finally registered so I figured I'd post.

Lobby of the Polynesian is the one that I can smell without being there :)

also I spent a lot of time at the disney village (yeah yeah, DTD but it will always be the village to me) growing up and being down by the dock where the boat rentals are just always makes me feel at home...that and clam chowder at captain jacks

ugh, clam chowder at Captain Jack's IS THE BEST IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD! I can't even explain how great it is, there is nothing like it. Might be one of my favorite foods in my short 31 years on this planet...lol. Who knows when I first had it, must have been back in the late 70's that I remember, but it is a family tradition with us. We talk about that clam chowder when we have family get togethers, so goooooooooooooooooooood!!!!!

I'm so glad there are others out there that agree!!!

You get 2 thumbs up!!!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Yeah, glad to see there are only two weird famalies around lol. Your story could double as mine easily. My family started going to FL in early/mid '70s. started staying at WDW in the late '70s. Can't remember the first year we stayed on property but once we did we never stayed off. We always stayed in the Vacation Villas where Saratoga Springs is now. So many people we met back with every year. Went until 1989 as a family.

I'm sure that almost everyone has those smells that they associate with Disney. For instance, mine are: the smell of the Grand Floridian lobby, the smell of the water on the water rides , even the smell of the bus fumes! What are some of everyone else's?! :goodvibes

Wow! That reminds me... I cant really describe it, but on most of the Disney rides there is this unique smell which I've only smelt at DisneyWorld/Land. But it is usually associated with the water rides. It smells so... REFRESHING!!! :santa:

When I enter thru those doors into the BCV lobby, I always have to stop and inhale. Is it the wax on the floor, the cleaning solution? Whatever it is, it's very distinctive and a big smile comes over my face-like "Now I'm home!" My apologies to anyone who's ever been right behind me because as soon as those doors whoosh open, I instantly stop for that deep breath. I'm surprised no one behind me's bumped into me.

....the smell of pesticides in the early morning while the sun is just rising as i'm walking to the food court with my refillable mug....

priceless.

Chalk up another vote to the Poly lobby-or even better the outdoor entrance area right before you go in. It's just so ---tropical.

If you need a fix, the Rainforest Cafe restaurants have a certain "Disney" smell to them. New Englanders can go to the one in Burlington, MA. It's not WDW, but they sell lots of souvenirs, have a penny press machine, animatronic animals, and theming.

We have been to the one in Burlington several times, but it just doesn't feel the same! lol. When we walk outside after our meal, we don't get that rush of hot/humid air, instead we get blasted with the freezing winter cold :guilty: :sad2: .

The inside atmosphere is very similar though, with the noises and animals as you listed. :thumbsup2

(we go there to get our secret Disney fix ;) )
