Disney Smells

i definitly agree with the smell of the water rides which i love. also the smell of the boardwalk

Does anyone remember the Secret deoderant add that said "Scent is the strongest sense tied to memory?" Well, I guess we are really proving it here!

For me it is the GF Lobby- what is it about that smell, and what IS the smell?

I would also have to chime in with the Roman Ruins in Spaceship Earth, such a classic :goodvibes

And last but not least, I just love the smell of leaving your room for the first time in the mornings- I dont know, maybe the flowers/landscaping just smell better there. OH, I know, I think it is the mulch- it seems like they are always freshly mulching or soemthing there...sigh...I wanna go back NOW!

Some really good smells have been mentioned. But one that hasn't that I really love is the smell in the Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Between the Lodge itself and the smell of the meats being roasted in Boma. :cloud9:

This is a very obscure one. I'll be impressed if anyone knows what I'm talking about:

On the Dreamflight ride, there was a part where you would slowly approach a bright spiral light in an otherwise dark room. The room was kind of foggy and it had the most distinct, indescribable smell. It didn't smell like anything I've ever smelled before. It was like the smell of wonder and awe. That smell still sticks with me today.

This was one of mine. I want to know what that smell is! Aw, I wish I was smelling it right now! I'm almost to double digits on my countdown! :woohoo: Keep the smells a'comin! We are all helping each other with our Disney fix for the day! :goodvibes

Here are some of mine (by the way, LOVE this thread! :) )

1) The smell of Gardenia's at the various resorts (you can really smell it at the Riverside!)

2) The overall smell of the Contemporary (always makes me run to the arcade).

3) The damp smell in the caves on Tom Sawyers Island.

4) The "bar" smell of the Rose and Crown.

5) The smell as you stand in line at the Pirates of the Carribean (ok, sometimes it's a BAD smell...lol).

6) The "smell" of Fort Wilderness. It just smells like you stepped back in time sometimes :)

On the Dreamflight ride, there was a part where you would slowly approach a bright spiral light in an otherwise dark room. The room was kind of foggy and it had the most distinct smell. It's very hard to describe but the best way I can explain it is "new-ness". That smell still sticks with me today.

Although it's been years, I do know what you're talking about!

The smell of pine trees and orange groves from Soarin' and the popcorn on Main Street right when you come through the tunnel are the ones that stick out in my mind... Also the burning Rome scene in SE and of course the water from the water rides...

I do remember that one, that was an excellent memory!

The "steam from the train" smell that you smell the moment you walt onto Main St.

The damp smell heading down the queue to Pirates of the Caribbean. Kind of a 'basement-y" smell..but I like it anyway!!!
The smell of the water rides. (Whoa! Ever smell your hair after it has gotten a splash of Splash Mtn?!! Like laundry you forgot in the washing machine for wayyyy too long...Ewww!)
That Circus elephant smell on the Monorail. What the heck is that anyway!!?
The burning smell in Spaceship Earth while Rome is burning!!!!!!

Can't wait to smell the smells in Aug!!!

i like the smell of that fog/jungle smell u get in some rides like dinosaur. it brings the ride to life and i can just imagine the smell right now and i already wanna go back and i just got home from disney a few days ago...

How 'bout bad smells, like when you stand in a 100° queue line and you're stuck behind someone with some unbearable BO... I can recall one or two of those.... YUK :scared:

the smell at downtown disney near the House of Blues- it smells like wood fired grill- That is my FAVORITE smell

I totally agree with this! WDW just smells good. I was actually thinking about this on Monday. I don't recall where I was, but I stopped and thought, "Something smells like the World.." Hahah! I think that just the smell of the parks is distinctive - a combination of musty water, hot pavement, good food, and too many people. Okay, it doesn't sound that great, but it really is! Also who couldn't love that lovely citrusy scent of the orange groves on Soarin'?!

LOVE this thread!!

Rome burning also does it for me. I also remember the Dreamflight smell -- kind of damp, but not in a bad way.

The smell of the PoTC line

Chicken broth reminds me of POFQ -- as we waited for the bus each AM on our honeymoon, we could smell food cooking that smelled like that.

The smell of Mickey soap (even though we stay off site now)

The dry smell as of desert scene in The Land

Have to agree with:
-FL water
-Smell of the vegetation/flowers
-bus fumes

For me since our first trip has been the smell at MGM when you walk in...it's a greasy sort of burgers and such being cooked smell. However, it has stayed with me since 1991 and is always a part of each trip that seems to say, welcome back to MGM!!!!

Oh, and they do pipe the smell out from the bakery at MK!!!

Another vote for the Polynesian lobby. Although there's a lot of smells I associate with Disney, this is the only one I can bring to mind so strongly that it's almost as if I'm actually smelling it right now. And I haven't even visited the Poly in some 10 years!

Although, I have to admit, the other day I was walking down the street after a fairly warm (for Michigan in March anyway) rain. I totally had the thought, "Wow, it smells like Disney!"
