Disney Skyliner (Gondola Transportation System) Read Post 1 Now Open!

I'm leaning this way because a) I can tell it's a wrapped cabin and b) the pile of stuff on the floor looks like it could be the gray fabric that was wrapping the cabin after it was painted and the picture was leaked showing Dale on the outside of a red cabin. The same one I believe that was on display on the weekend
The pile of stuff on the floor is sand bags holding the cabin down on the show floor.

I would choose wood slats over cushions if I were buying. If you've seen any lifts at a ski resort, the cushions always get ripped and end up looking like garbage.

and Disney seems to be moving towards hard surfaces with the hotel rooms (replacing carpet with vinyl) so would think they would go with wood over cushions here

A further data point, bus, monorail and friendships all seem to have some sort of hard seat, mostly plastic. Easy to clean and maintain.
I agree. The wooden slats just don't look too comfortable. Even a hard plastic seat would potentially be more comfortable than wooden slats.

But realistically, we will be in these such a short period of time that basically the seat doesn't really matter to me. I'll just be thankful for a place to sit down when possible. Even standing in these should be easier than standing in moving buses.

Pretty much this. You shouldn't be in these things for, I would imagine, more than 15 minutes. The wood slats will be easily replaceable if they get damaged or vandalized and would not require a full seat replacement like plastic would. And I imagine the slats being open also helps with air movement/reducing heat retention (solid plastic surfaces or cushions seem like they would trap heat moreso than wood slats).

If the analysis done based on speed of other systems and the distance I think most legs will be ~5 mins and maybe the CBR to EPCOT one being closer to 10mins - so really not that long

I did this when I went to London during the Olympics and it is very efficient. If you have never done it its hard to imagine but definitely efficient and fast.

The only cushioned benches I saw were from the IAAPA convention and they showed pictures of gondolas from the Doppelmayr company but it was not confirmed that those were the actual models that would be used by Disney. At least that is my understanding.

What? This photo is from the cabin at the D23 Destination D.

OK - I apologize. I though the post immediately before it showed pictures of the gondola at BlogMickey. But it turned out one picture was of the Skyliner gondola, and all the others were from some other show.

I just have a hard time believing they are going with wooden slats. Though perhaps since wood doesn't retain heat they don't have to worry about people singeing their behinds with wooden benches.

The BlogMickey photos were from IAAPA at the Dopplemayr booth.

Does anyone have a status on the cables going to the Epcot station? Have they started to be strung? Finished?

There was (and possibly still is) information on the Swan/Dolphin website about potential dock closures starting next week but I've never heard anything OFFICIAL announced by Disney.

I'm leaning towards believing the Epcot dock will be open and am creating her transportation document based on this. Just wondered if any cables had been run at the Epcot station as that was the rumored reason that the Epcot dock could be closed for a period of time.

Not trying to open a can of worms. Just asking as I'm making final plans for our trip as well as a friend's, both of which include reservations at Cape May Cafe.

Thanks!

They were already saying back in October that the IG Dock will be closed for some time in December. I am not knowledgable enough to know the exact dates, but yes they will have that dock closed for a period of time next month.

That was the rumour but everyone who contacted Disney directly (myself included) received information that they were not aware of a closing which is why I'm asking. According to the Swan/Dolphin's original announcement the closure was supposed to start next Wed. I find it hard (but not impossible) to believe that if Disney were closing the Epcot dock that they would have have made some official announcement by now.

It is possible they don't feel the need to make an announcement since the boat will still operate to DHS and people could walk to Epcot or they likely will have buses for the time being.
