Disney Skyliner (Gondola Transportation System) Read Post 1 Now Open!

From what I’ve seen from the pictures from the latest event, these supposedly will have a ramp of sorts that comes out to make it a level surface.
There is no ramp, it is just level. The gondola has a "lip" that sticks out that is at the same height as the station floor. This lip is shown in the video.

This video shows a lot of loading scenes, including wheel chairs and strollers around the 5 minute mark. It was built by a different company, but very similar. This one also has a much higher capacity than the one in the PP's video (a little more than half of the Skyliner, though).

I have also rode the Breck Connect multiple times in the middle of a sunny, 90 degree day. Of course there wasn't humidity, but it felt just fine and they don't have the tinted windows.

Also around 5:50 gives an idea of how the handicap loop will work. The video is showing cars going back on after maintenance, but I think it'll be similar for the slow load line.

Hmmmm...hope that it opens by early November when we stay at CBR. I booked that resort partly due to the Gondolas.
We booked May knowing it wouldn't be done.....then booked December too, HOPING it'll be done!

Almost seems like they want to wait and open during a season that is not summer, just to get better 1st impressions if there is any heat issue?
I can't help but wonder if they want it to go live without the multitude of summer guests......

We’ll be staying at CBR in July. We were thinking of doing the bon voyage breakfast on our resort day. If, while walking or taking the boat from HS to boardwalk, I see the Skyliner running empty, I’ll be giving it very resentful looks.
:rotfl2:

Finally a comprehensive update instead of the this station looks like this or that wire is installed there.

There's no way this thing takes until fall to open. I bet all of the "heavy haul" cables are installed by the end of the year and we see gondolas soaring through the air with cast on board by valentines day
It’s all based on how fast the cabins get produced. That is the hold up. Testing begins in January.

I guess I didn't realize that you'd be driving under cables and thus cabins so much. That'll be an interesting drive for sure!

yeah, i noticed that from this update as well - like, I *knew* it from seeing the map but when you see it in photos/reality it hit me much harder

even like driving up to the parking toll plaza at DHS will *feel* totally different with the gondolas going by in the back and stuff

Agreed. It's different when you see it as an aerial and then when you see the viewpoint of a vehicle that you'd be driving in. It's a lot closer to the ground than I thought lol.

I agree! Our favourite resort is Pop. In my imagination I had the gondolas soaring much higher over the water than they actually will. It's going to be SO pretty!!

Do you think the completion of Riviera will impact the deployment of gondolas in any way?

It’s not the Contemporary. The gondola station is decidedly separate from the Riviera resort building so I don’t see that impacting it at all.

(IMO it would have been cool if the gondolas at least had a second-floor platform right outside Riviera like the Polynesian Monorail stop, but I digress. I’m sure there’s good reasons for how separated it is.)

I've been calling that it's going to be a covered walkway to the gondola station for a while (maybe 6 months). I still think this will be the case. Prove me wrong.

I’d be shocked if the walkway were not covered. We DVC Members don’t deserve to get wet walking from our expensive resort to the station, do we?!

I bet you are right that it's covered. Maybe some sort of promenade. I can see them having a snack/coffee cart along that route as well. You'll have a fair amount of traffic coming from CBR Jamaica section, that would need to go the opposite direction for a morning snack.

I want a Starbucks in the gondola station with a Skyliner "You are here" mug
