Disney Skyliner (Gondola Transportation System) Read Post 1 Now Open!

I am really not concerned with the skyliner failing. I'm sure Disney is using top of the line equipment and putting in as many fail safes as possible but what if something like this happens ?

That's a chair lift, not a detachable gondola system. It's also an elevation system where WDW will be mostly flat. Third, I have more faith in a brand new, high profile, corporate branded Gondola system than a random chairlift in a former Soviet Republic.

I am curious if I show people a clip of a gruesome bus accident will they refuse to get on Disney buses? Those clips are, sadly, all too easy to find and you don't even have to dig them out of former Soviet Republics. There are plenty here in the U.S.

They all seem pretty low. My guess is to decrease the fear factor. And perhaps for evac planning.

If Disney hasn't sat in a meeting, discussing a situation like this for hours, they have failed. I do process safety analysis for a living, and a worst case scenario like this would be discussed as a very low probability, multiple hospitialization possible fatality scenario. And a solution would be needed. My guess is Disney is not going with a helicopter scenario, but instead will purchase some lift trucks capable of reaching the fairly low gondola cables.

One other point: I would assume is that as you go higher off the ground, wind speed rises as well. While these will never be used in any situation with significant wind, there is no need to build taller than necessary so as to maximize the time it can be used while still being comfortable for guests.

That's really only an issue over at Universal......Disney doesn't own the rights to that IP.

They rated to 35-40mph winds if memory serves.

Not sure they would want it. Terminator seems like one of those IPs that has past its time. The first two movies were great in their day, but since then the time travel aspects and the incompetent movie making just piles garbage on top of garbage. I mean Genesys wasn't terrible, but there was a lot of really dumb stuff in there and it felt so unnecessary, and now they are working on ANOTHER one. It's like someone is desperate to make the story relevant.

(This is generally true of anything that involves time travel. The longer it goes on - the more of a nonsensical mess it becomes. JK Rowling is the only person that ever did time travel right - by only using it one time, having the events the characters experience be unchanged by the time travel and then never using it again. I think a big reason I didn't like Cursed Child was all the time travel BS.)

Well, I could see it working as a TV show and be great on a streaming service - so could be one reason Disney would want it - but I agree, not a high priority property

Could Disney please get this IP? I'd love something here in the states that was a Dr. Who theme park...I'd probably be even more excited for that than Star Wars.

And to tie back to topic...they could make some Tardis gondolas for like ECVs, strollers, and wheelchairs, and claim they are bigger on the inside when people are worried about fitting

I don't think anything like that will happen either. It was a "what if" and I really didn't do any digging, it was in my news feed. I know nothing on how a chair lift works compared to a gondola system. I only know they are both suspended on a cable. But will we ride the new gondola? Yes.

The guy who writes Lift Blog commented on some new aerials of the CBR station on another message board. He pointed out an unusual feature of the station where there are two turn around at the end of the line. These should allow more cars in the station at one time to help increase capacity.

After further discussion it is once again unclear the purpose of the second turn. Someone pointed out that the inner loop probably wouldn't be accessible since there is a trench you would have to cross to get to it.

If you look closely at the support structures for the other two loops, you can see that they seem to match the support structures of the already installed turn structure heading to DHS..... Which would suggest that they all will have the second rotor in the turn around..... Although it seems the supports on the lake side for the resort loops are being covered with a sort of brick facing that the ones heading to DHS do not currently have...

Wouldn't the inside rotor carry the cable that runs at higher speed and carries the gondolas and the outer loop be where the cars slow or stop for loading? I don't have experience with gondola construction but seems that the support cable would need it's own rotor and the loading section would be separate from it...
