Disney should institute price breaks for health care workers like they do for the military

I'm a nurse. But I've found grocery store workers, truck drivers, sanitation employees and teachers are just as important at keeping things normal. Add to that the restaurants, gyms and yoga studios, retailers and many others who are adjusting and trying to stay afloat to keep things normal for themselves, their employees, their families and their local economies.

I can only hope that those people who don't think certain jobs are meant to have a living wage will realize the importance of everyone.

I can appreciate you position on other workers outside of nursing. That said, I think it's clear that the nursing are on front lines and are being impacted fair greater than anyone else having to work in this climate.

Regarding discounts... I think Disney should do something special from them. The current discount is a joke.

Amen! Every worker deserves a living wage. We need to recognize that we all stand on the shoulders of those providing the basic requirements for our survival in America and pay them accordingly.

I am an RN and agree with health care workers getting something special from WDW when this is over.
However, my grandson is a fireman/EMT, and during this crisis he works 5/24 days in a row. That's 120 hours straight day and night, folks! The whole department must do this. He is on the front line with medical calls as they don't know who has covid 19 or not. They just do their jobs putting themselves on the front line for others.
So, we do need to include other front line workers, too.
I don't think Disney will do a thing as far as discounts or specials for Any front line worker, IMO.
There are so many deserving people who are behind the scenes doing their jobs every day too. That's one reason why I don't think disney will offer anything special to just one group after this is over.

I think everyone is going to get some special discounts. I'm hoping for a return of the 60% Labor Day period discounts at the Poly. But yes the medical professionals should get the best discounts.

Given how expensive Disney is, any discount is a joke. And honestly, not something I need. There are other things that could be done with that money.

Do you really think it’s going to stay that way?
My crystal ball is broken. Regardless I don’t feel like I need a special discount. I have a job and pretty well paid. I would love to see those 40% discounts at deluxe resorts come back.

40%? I'm holding out for 60% off at the Poly again. Maybe I will get the $189 a night like I did back in August of 2014. Wilderness Lodge was $169 a night.

almost free, they pay taxes on the money they get for housing and such. Also not all military housing is created equal. Mold is a huge issue in the barrack. And the housing at Ft Polk was very hit or miss. So yes there are some benefits, but there is a lot they give up. (mom of a Soldier, aunt to an Airman and friend to many different branches. All that to say, the military benefit should remain just for military.

And of course, there are different levels of the military. If you have half a brain, you can do pretty well. I had 2 cousins and another cousin's daughter all go to Westpoint. They are doing pretty darn well for themselves and trust me, they don't need any kind of discounts when they go places.

Paramedics. DS has already had 1 (negative Thank God) COVID test after a scare.

How about first responders? The police, the fire department, the ambulance service....they all have to respond to residences and businesses and are exposed to a variety of risks. Many do not have the protective equipment the hospital or clinic has due to the high demand, short supply.

Good points. There's no fair way of categorizing who the greater hero's are, as everyone you mentions plays a vital role in how we get beyond this. That said, the numbers indicate that nurses and hospital workers are being hit the hardest. I think its safe to say that we need those workers to be health and safe

My mother is a nurse, my sister is a nurse, 4 of my cousins are nurses and I have many friends who are nurses. It takes a lot of people to keep a hospital up and running. If asymptomatic people are spreading this like it appears they are ANYONE working with the public right now is at great risk- where does it end?

I just had a conversation this morning--driveway to driveway--with my neighbor. He's a brain surgeon and doesn't have much to do right now because very little is being scheduled. The operations he does have take a lot longer though because of all the extra precautions that must be taken.
