I am new to the world of scrapbooking, and it is a little overwhelming! We are going to WDW soon, and I would like to do a book when I get back. I saw on a website that there is a Disney scrapbooking store in DTD. If I buy supplies there, how can I get things home without the airline crushing them? Any suggestions?

Also, any ideas for albums? Where do you get Disney supplies? What type of memoriabelia do you use from your trips? (ie. maps of the parks, postcards, etc. Are those things a problem because they are not acid free?)

Thanks so much!

Hi,
I was just at the store in DTD and they didn't have a ton of stuff. I also wouldn't buy a scrap book from them just because if you need to get refills it may be hard to find something that fits their book! If I were you I would go to the local scrap store and see what catches your eye and then buy filler stuff at Disney.

For 2 of my trips I bought a WDW scrapbook to use and love them because of the graphics on the front. The first was an 8.5x11 and it worked fine -- regular refills of that size worked without a problem. The second was a 12x12 and finding refills was a pain! Since it was a 3ring style I was able to simply take all of the refills out and put all of the same size/type in. (which was a bit of a waste of money as well as not perfect because they were a bit too long for the book -- it worked well enough, but not perfect). Anyway, I am now going to simply use the same style of scrapbook that I use for my day-to-day albums - simply going to get it in red and have the cover embossed at my LSS (local scrapbook store).

From what I have read, the scrapbook supplies in Disney are mainly limited to papers and stickers and other 'flat' items, so getting them home is not a problem. I am lucky that several stores around me carry Disney-themed items for scrapbooks, so I mainly shop there. There are many on-line companies that sell Disney scrapbooking supplies, so that is an option as well. One that I like particularly well is:

As for memorablia -- Everyone needs to make a decision as to how concerned they will be with acid-free and such. Personally, it is more important for *me* to include maps, postcards, tickets, napkins, etc. in my books than to leave them out because they may not be "archival quality." Now, I am careful how I use them and try to not rest these items against actual photographs by using pocket pages, memorablia sleeves, acid-free (sometimes also buffered) matting papers, etc.

I love scrapping my Disney trips -- probably my favorite theme to scrap!! Have fun with it!

We just got back from Disney on March 31...it was my grandson's first trip...he's 3. In just 4 1/2 days I took 25 rolls of film. I do a lot of paperpiecings in my books so I bought two awesome coloring books for patterns. I also travel with a Jumbo sized Ziploc bag and 2 pieces of 12 x 12 cardboard to store all my memorabilia in for safe travel. Believe me, it was FULL coming home...LOL.

I was totally unimpressed with the offerings at the Scrapbook store and other locations throughout the park...there are tons of on-line stores that carry Disney products of much better quality.

For albums, I bought two Black albums from Creative Memories with black pages...I am THRILLED with them. Since I have so many pics I may need another one, which I think I'll get in red. I also got some of the CM Pocket Pages for all the memorabilia I brought home, and I did a small "Flip Book" for the package of postcards I got at the Animal Kingdom Lodge.

As far as memorabilia is concerned, I mostly make sure I do dedicated pages for that type of stuff...either the pocket pages or just separate layouts. As long as non-acid free items are directly touching pictures it is OK to use.

If it's ideas you need, Creating Keepsakes has this great book titled "The Big Idea Book of Disney Memories". It is chock full of some great page ideas!

Your local scrapbook store should have some Disney related stickers, etc. I know that Michael's craft store had some Disney paper, stickers, etc. as well.

Good luck!

Creative Memories has some DIsney stuff now. Their snap pack is fun, whether you do a 7 x 7 album or just use it in your 12 x 12.

If you get "plain" albums, you can have them embossed. A lot of LSS offer this, and / or know someone who does them. One of the dies that is used is a castle look, or a crown, they also have a swirly head Mickey die. A lot of people also have a die with "Remember the Magic" on it. That is what is on my black album. The next trip will probably be Cranberry for me.

Don't forget to check your home depot for the mickey mouse head paint chips. They come in all different colours and are really cute. :D (they also have other colours that you could use to punch out tiggers and pooh bears, like bouncy orange (or something like that). maggie

Yes, supplies are limited at DTD, but you should still check it out...I think the place is really neat, just nothing I couldn't find anywhere else! I did pick up 2 Kits there and some stickers, but the stickers were more for my daughter than me! LOL I also bought the Tinkerbell Scrapbook, but I haven't had to refill it yet, so I don't know about that part! :)

"Hot Off the Press" makes lots of paper with Disney patterns. I would suggest suggest looking in your local craft store (Michael's, AC Moore) or looking on the internet before you buy stuff at DTD.

The DD scrapebook store was the one major disappointment of my last trip. My local scrapebook store has so much more (and more attractive) options to choose from, and you can always web-shop and get lots of good stuff there. I picked up some of the large postcards cut into shapes like Mickey, the castle, etc. They were very nice enhancements. I just finished a major Disney album and used lots of Me and My Big Ideas Stickers on pages for the Safari, Jungle Cruise, waterparks, Wilderness Lodge & campground photos. They work really well. To add a Mickey touch, I got the very small Mickey head punch and punched out a bunch of "heads" in coordinating colors and scattered them around the page. I had lots of pictures and was accumulating supplies for about 2 years before I did the album. One mistake I made was loading up on Mickey stuff and then discovering that I had very few pictures that actually had Mickey in them. As far as albums go, I plan to use red for all my Disney albums and have them embossed. I used the swirley head Mickey and "Remember the Magic" on the first one. It was really one of my most fun projects.

I just finished a scrapbook from my Disney Cruise in March. I stopped at the new scrap book store downtown Disney and was not impressed. I do use their stickers in a box (4 rolls a box). I found that Sandylion has some good disney stickers and I used the new Mickey Pack and the Snappack from Creative Memories. I like to keep my books simple so I use Mickey Paper punches alot. I will use a photo of something I cropped off and punch the photo and put it in my book. I also use alot of Hot off the Press papers. They have an 8 by 11 Magic Kingdom book, and just came out with a 12 by 12 book. All of my scrapbooks are 12 by 15 and I just make the adjustments. (I take way too many pictures, then want to put them all in the book).

Sandylion are now making some great Disney albums, and I think these are also now sold in the parks. The older 3 ring albums were not great quality and the page protectors were a very strange size, but the Sandylion albums are lovely.

They are making some fab papers and stickers too!

my LSS had them, but it's in the UK so not much help I know!
You could try MouseMemories I know they carry the albums

I bought a 12x12 album there and asked them about refills. They said in the past the albums were not true 12x12, but this year they were and would fit any standard refill. I hope they weren't lying to me!

I did read on a past post that the albums were by Sandylion, so you would be able to buy refills where you get the albums.

I too, was disappointed in what the Disney Scrapbook Store had to offer, I got the '2003 Kit' and a Disney Collectable pin to celebrate the opening of the store!!
