Disney Rumor Alert!

omg there's so many choices..I personally would go for Puerto Rico :cool2:

but I know thats not ever going to happen..so I would go with Australia..then Russia...

if they had to take a country out for me it would be Canada (my opinion don't flame me!!!)

Last time I checked, Puerto Rico isn't even a country. It is barely a commonwealth!:sad2:

I like Russia or Greece, Do they have to get rid of a country for this? I like a little something about all the current countries...Maybe a little less of Morocco, i would miss the Baklava though!

Africa is represented with Morocco. The only unrepresented and fully populated continent is South America. I would love to see Brazil but I think if they expand it will be Russia or India. India is one the way to becoming the most populous country and there are plenty of culinary and architectural opportunities.

I like the idea too of India although it is very well represented in Animal Kingdom, as is Africa. So Russia or Australia would be pretty cool. An Australian presence in Animal Kingdom, given the unique animals to be found in Australia, would satisfy my Australia "bug" though.

A mini red-square might be kind of cool, I loved the buildings at redsquare and I think it would fit well into Epcot. Walking through red square with the sun setting can be breathtaking. The colors were beautiful. however during my visit I enjoyed our time in St Petersburg much more. Every where we went there was a lot of bueaty. It has been quite a while since we were there. And to be honest I have forgotten just where a lot of it was. But there were lots of beautiful gardens, fountains, cathedrals, etc.

I read somewhere (in one of the many many Disney guide books I've read the past month) that Epcot is actually designed to hold more pavilions than there are. I forget the exact number - I want to say 3 but I could be way off.

Someone also posted about a Roller Coaster in a pavilion - and in the same book (really wishing I could remember the title now) they said there was supposed to be a rollercoaster in either China or Japan (I know they are way different, but the details are fuzzy to me!!) but there just wasn't enough funding for it - because the pavilions are corporate sponsorships, I'm pretty sure.

Anyways - I'd add my vote to Greece. I think the colors and the architecture would make for an incredible pavilion - not to mention Athens/ruins! Greece is definitely on my bucket list, so I'd be a happy camper if I could get a taste for it in the world showcase for sure!

Greece would be gorgeous... a little bit of Santorini in World Showcase! Even the Greek kiosk during food and wine was pretty.

I would also love Australia! Or New Zealand.

Hmmm. What else. Switzerland? A tribute to the mountains, swiss chocolate, Swiss Miss and Roger Federer? .... hmmm. ;)

Someone should put up an actual DIS poll and we can help Disney out with their research. I am too tired right now to do it, though.

The Dis -- using its power for the Forces of Good! (With great power, etc.) I'm picturing the roundtable turning into a meeting of the Justice League. :rotfl:

My first choice a few posts back was Egypt, and then someone prompted me regarding Greece. Yeah, I think Greece would actually be on the top of my list. They could do so many cool things with the architecture, history etc. A nice ride revolving around Greek Mythology could be fantastic as well!

I know of 5 "segments" of the area around the world showcase lagoon that can accommodate a full pavilion:

- Between Mexico and Norway
- Between China and Germany (the Outpost) - bigger than all of them
- Between Germany and Italy
- Between Japan and Morocco
- Between Morocco and France

There is also the Millenium Village which could be reclaimed.

The only problem with this is it would get rid of some of the breaks between the countries. The only fully adjacent countries are Norway and China - the American Adventure pavilion has tree breaks between it and Japan and Italy. The exception is the Outpost, as the frontage is big enough to keep a break between, plus the bridge between it and China.

I just read the blog - I hope Disney reads it, this would be perfect. WOW! Great job, great idea - expecially a roller coaster, maybe based on ice.

Whatever happened to Switzerland? Once upon a time there was talk of putting in Switzerland with a Matterhorn type ride. I'd vote for that...plus think of the swiss cheese and the chocolate!! They can chuck out Morroco or the Outpost or both...don't care for either. From the list of options on the survey I would go with Australia.

Greece and Russia would be interesting and visually..pretty amazing..possibly a bit hairy.

Brazil would be cool. Phillipines.. maybe..

Think of the merchantainment tie in possibilities with the Philipines....A store that would rival Imelda Marcos' shoe closet.

The WS already is over-focused on Western Europe, so Switzerland -- which would be very diffcult to do justice to without creating a relatively involved and very costly "vertical" pavillion (read: mountains) -- is pretty much DOA.

And while the focus here is seemingly on growing continental variety, another potentially important other issue to take into account is the ability of a new country to offer great, well-known storylines (not just themes, stories) as the basis for what is really missing in the WS: a true "e" ticket attraction (which by the way includes approaches that go beyond just adding yet another "themed" coaster - why do so many people limit their view of "hot attraction" to that? )

So let's go through the lists of presumed favorites here, taking into account other variables that affect the likelihood of a given country "making the cut."

Egypt: great themes (pyramids and mummies) and while some interesting characters (Cleopatra, King Tut) no real "stories." Also, anything done on the "archeological ride" track (particularly adding a coaster) would just be seen as trying to copy the Mummy attraction at US.

Greece: more great themes and some engaging potential storylines based on mythology. Challenge: I'm not sure (as others have mentioned) that sponsorship would happen given the deepening economic crisis over there.

India: an interesting case; has great themes, and some wonderful stories (yes we all immediately think of the Jungle book). However, most of the most leveragable opportunities for theming and attractions relate back to the British colonial era (yes, blame Mr. Kilpling), which raises all sorts of "PC" issues.

Russia: for some reason, this one strikes me as both full of possibilities and simultaneously a big risk. I'm not convinced a pavillion focused on "current" Russia would be particularly engaging or attractive -- but a pre-revolution, "Dr. Zhivago" version of the country could be absolutely amazing. Frankly, I can see that featuring a state of the art "Peter and the Wolf" attraction using "Univeral Spiderman" technology!

Brazil: theming isn't a simple as it may seem: would this replicate Rio De Janeiro beaches, complete with skimpy swimwear? Or is the focus on the Amazon regions? This is probably the best example of a major country that most Epcot visitors would have a pretty much "blank slate" perception of - which would make it that more challenging to theme effectively. There also really aren't a lot of true story opportunities here (yep, "The Girl From Ipanema" would be a real family ride...!) ;)

Shoes! Did someone say shoes?
Come to think of it, why aren't great shoes sold in the Italy pavilion?

This was on display at a Vinylmation event over the weekend. Vinylmations usually come in sets of 12, so they needed something to fill the twelfth slot. Brazil is an interesting choice.

interesting...starting at the WS entrance from Futureworld, all those are clockwise the correct countries in order...but it would place Brazil someplace between Canada and Mexico...if it had been positioned somewhere else, I'd think a bit more about something being up...

Brazil for the tour groups.

It has a built in KLAXON which automatically detects when it's 3am in your particular time zone, and at that time BLARES for an hour unabated. If you place it outside, it will pound on your door until you let it back in.

These vinylmations are getting more and more advanced.
