Disney Riviera Resort

The lack of flexibility...is huge...and the snarky response (whatever it is) will be incorrect. The flexibility is a lot of the value even if you don't use it.

SSR is like 1,300 rooms, this is I think 300? And being this new design/location/Star Wars/DHS/EPCOT/BW condola-I'm not worried at all.

I don't think they'll have the Saratoga problem...you brought that up...but i think this could lead to other negative affects...and that's why I'm watching.

Not all places were built the same and some shouldn't cost the same.

Pool doesn't even make the list. Neither does shopping -- there's plenty of that in the parks.

I don't shop at WDW. I mean, sometimes I run to DS to buy sunglasses I lose/forgot, or makeup (I don't like to think about that trip).

But the pools and POOL SERVICE is important to me. Very. One of the main reasons I prefer the Swolphin over all others. Great pool service, and love their restaurants, followed by YC/CR.

You brought up they would flood better spots. Actually that's about the only negative you came up with.

I just was saying SSR is the biggest offender, which you later agreed with.

So now it's not going to be a problem? I agree but then why did you use that example?

And if nobody stays there it will flood the other places where people DO want to stay.

First day with this dvc thing? It's all tied together...sometimes is so tough around here...

When they do an overblown dud...like Saratoga...it adds many more people to the pool looking for rooms at "better"
Spots
.

I was giving you a general idea...not applying it to this particular situation.

When people swallow price gouges...views are borderline...but "after hours magic" are well inside the border...it shifts demand to an artificial price point and throws everything off.

But you know that...cause you leave the house every morning and go fight the lions in your job as a professional Capitalist, right?
"Price gouging" is misused here. These aren't necessities being artificially inflated at a point of inflated demand.

"Shifts demand to an artificial price point" -- not even sure what that means in this context. People are either willing to pay the prices or they're not. If they're not, the prices will come down. Pretty simple.

The crowd at magic kingdom has grown above normal inflation for the last 10 years in particular...making the calendar more susceptible to larger crowds outside of established patterns.

People feel crowded and require more time

The wdw operational response is to lengthen the park hours to maintain the product quality and allow for more ancillary sales. That's a proven model.

What is not proven is instead holding to low occ hours and charging over 100% of the daily price for the portion of the day that is meant to handle the swell as an "add on". Foul.

That is price gouging...no new product is being offered. It's up to the consumer to sniff it out and if they don't...here's where I agree with your capitalist training...it's on them.

But it will also embolden them to do more such moves...like cabanas.

The war never ends.

Pool service... like food nearby, drinks, that sort of thing?

When we went to Aulani that stuff mattered. Outside of some excursions (cage diving with sharks was A-MAZING!!), it's a sit by the pool kinda' vacation. At a theme park that just doesn't matter to us.

I can only guess that it doesn't matter to "enough" DVC owners or these pools would be more elaborate.

I said "if"...I never predicted that will happen. But it certainly could.

My worry is not lack of demand. It's selling crap at high price and then doubling down on the next one and the next one.

And it's just a concern...nobody knows what's gonna happen yet.

Gotcha' now. I still think "price gouging" is misused and too extreme when you're talking about vacation time in a theme park.

But I take your point on the bait-and-switch-of-sorts on those who are now accustomed to Disney adding hours as summer dates arrive -- and they just don't do it this time. I'm in that boat next month -- I get that.

Cabanas... that was funny. But what happened is what should have happened: they got a tad greedy and they crashed and burned on that one. Thank you free market! :D

That was the impression I got. I mean literally, the waitresses and quality of food they'll bring you. I don't want to eat a burger by the pool, but LOVE tuna poke. I think it's why my WDW style doesn't work for DVC, but I'm continually listening to how people use it - because I'd be a=okay to be proven wrong.

Aulani seems SO nice.

It was gorgeous - truly! And tuna poke as far as the eye could see...

I never get poolside food in WDW -- I might if it included poke and the like. I just don't expect it there and I guess I'm ok with that for these particular vacations.

Not concerned in the least, and not worried I "ain't gonna like it" in the least, and I know what I got and am not worried it will be gone either.

Will give you credit on the nice try with the scare tactics though.

So this thing where they make a "moderate dvc" and then say it doesn't matter what we build?...
...if it happens...you ain't gonna like it, kid

Don't know what you got till its gone.

Who knows... maybe they'll do poolside RIGHT at DRR to make it really feel deluxe given other factors... ... you may have found your DVC match... stay tuned...! :)

Hope springs eternal. The place looks so pretty, and personal preference, I love a traditional tower hotel, so we'll see.

Stick to the dolphin if you want something good poolside...disney doesn't "do" that

Disney doesn't seem to do a lot actual up market amenities well...or I'm just spoiled. Being able to walk to a park(s) is compelling though. I'm not going to even suggest that staying in the CR Atrium isn't cool. Grew up doing it as a kid, and still think seeing the monorail go through the hotel is super cool...
