Disney Rewards...

I just called in regards to this same question. I was able to use my Disney Visa, but the interest rate on the points was raised by 1%. It now costs me around $5.00 more a month. I figure I'll use the write off and still get the rewards.

Why is it adding an additional $5.00 to your payment.. that doesn't make any sense... I was able to pay for my down payment on my visa...

My guide said they only allow the CC option for folks who live outside of the US....So, I signed up with the direct debit option...

But, then I am planining on making additional payments every month. Instead of automatically taking it out of my checking account, I was thinking I could call up each month and charge the additional amount to my Disney Visa (if it is allowed...)

You can charge your full annual dues to a credit card in January. I don't know if you could call now and have the remainder of your 2003 dues charged to your cc (in a lump sum).

We also took advantage of the lower interest rates and did a refinance of our home and paid off our DVC with the new Visa, then paid the Visa with the proceeds of the refi (much lower rates than we were paying Disney). My reward points are now at 118.
It tickles me to pay for Disney with Disney and get points to give back at Disney.

My, while people here are getting all excited about having to roll $3,500 of cash flow through their Bank One VISA to get $35 worth of Disney "Rewards," I just got 2,700 frequent flyer miles added to my AAdvantage account by using my Citibank AAdvantage Mastercard to pay a firm that is doing work on on our home $2.700. That's over 10% of the mileage one needs to get a round trip ticket anywhere in the continental U.S. Using that card, on average we gain 2-2.5 free full round trips a year.

If I'd run the same bill through my Disney VISA (yes, I have one), I'd have gotten a grand total of....$27 "Disney Reward points," which would buy what? A pillow at the Disney store? In fact, one person on this thread said they'd garnered 135 points to date, which means they've rolled $13,500 through the card. In return, they now have enough points to buy...maybe 2 meals at WDW sitdown restaurants.

Or stated differently, I don't see why people think this is such a fantastic, wonderful program. The spending rebate levels (compared to many other major card programs) are shall we say on the "cheap" end.

Is your annual fee $50 or $85 ? The value of your ticket also depends on where your flying. You could redeme 25000 pts for a $200 or a $500 flight, meaning your redemption percentages could be less then 1%. Tacking on your annual fee also drops your percentage especially if it takes you two or more years to earn your ticket. Also, your points per ticket doubles if you don't book well in advance.

Bottom line is that all reward cards offer virtually all the same percentages.

Sadly, I have almost $200 in rewards coming to me. I just did a 100 point add on (and I said I'd NEVER Do that, lol) and we have done a lot of home improvements lately. We pay off the card each month, so it's nice to get some disney bucks coming to us for our next visit.

I've called bank one and asked them and no one knew this...do you know? If we get disney bucks from our rewards points, can we use them to buy tickets at Disney store? No one at bank one knew. (The rewards certificates are either for Disney store or for wdw...so tickets would fall into which category? make sense?)

From what I've read, the reward dollars are virtually identical to disney dollars, which can be used to purchase anything in the dis stores.

I have called two different Disney stores in our area with the same question about using the Disney dollars to buy tickets. I have been told, on both occasions, that the reward dollars can be applied to the purchase of tickets to WDW. I know that Bank One doesn't have the answers because one of the stores tried to call.

However, recently I spoke with a representative at the number you call to redeem the rewards and they said there are no restrictions on the reward dollars.

Therefore, I would say use them for tickets but call the Disney store in your area just to be sure - good luck.

I don't think it is necessarily a "fantastic, wonderful program". I am just excited to get something back for spending on a credit card. I have never had a reward card before, so I am simply enjoying it. I wish it was 5 or 10% back though

:p

Whatever happened to the earn double, triple rewards? I saw this mentioned several times when I applied, but have yet to see this offered.

Given a choice between 2700 miles and $35, I'd gladly take the $35.

So far we have 73 points, courtesy of a local roofing company. If you have to get a new roof, may as well get a nice Disney dinner out of it. We've been using our HHonors Amex card for most things lately, but the roofer wouldn't take Amex.

I guess it's all relative ... I use a debit card frequently, and faithfully deduct the amount from my checkbook. I've tended to balk at credit cards, just because in my younger, foolish days we ran up WAY too much debt and struggled to pay our balances off.

Yeah, it'd be great to get more than $1 back on $100, but it's more than I get with the debit card. What I've been doing is putting EVERYTHING I can on the Disney Visa, hold on to my receipts, and then at least once a week going on line and paying the balance, thereby using it like a debit card. With gas, groceries, and other incidentals, it's amazing how much you can put on that sucker. It calls for a little more disicipline on my part, but heck, a $ at Disney is a $ at Disney.

Besides, you wouldn't believe how many store clerks just grin and say "a DISNEY card!?" when they see it. I even referred a desk clerk at a Hampton Inn to our DVC guide last week.

I have about 60 points. I am adopting a daughter from China and have put all my travel expenses (sis's too) on my credit card. Also, I got the pin, but it took about a month.

Only have 22 so far, but I am going to let it 'go' this year and use our rewards for our 2004 trip instead of this year's trip. Maybe I will have enough for a free dinner by then :D .

You'd be surprised how fast the rebates can add up.

We have a Citi-Bank Driver's Edge Card that gives 2% back toward the purchase of any vehicle - new or used - any make or model. The maximum rebate is $500.00 year and must be used within 3 years. 8.6% interest rate.

We just received the card last year and already have over $700.00 in rebates coming! We are looking for a new car so this will pay some of the sales tax.

We use the card for almost everything from groceries, gas, clothing, etc. We've also used it when we re-carpeted our house and on our trips.

In addition, we are getting a Disney Visa card as we will max out the rebate for the year on the Driver's Edge card when we make our DVC purchase :D It will be great to receive Disney Dollars for a character meal or Disney merchandise. ;)

Well my story is different. I refuse to have a mileage credit card. I feel locked into flying that airline. Right now I have to use a free frequent flyer plane ticket for America West. Fine and dandy but guess what? I can't find any decent air fares from here to Vegas via America West (Vegas is my next vacation stop), so if I don't use this free ticket by x date, I lose it. I'll probably just lose it altogether since I feel locked into flying AmericaWest now (don't get me started on blackout dates either!). I wouldn't want to feel locked into buying a GM car either, so I stopped using my GM Card even though it has $1000 in rebates on it.

As far as our Driver's Edge card - you don't have to buy a GM car - the rebate is good for ANY CAR - NEW OR USED.....

Since it seems like we purchase a car about every 3 years (usually a fairly new used car - my husband gets one every 6 or so years and I get one a few years later), this card should work for us. Although I'll probably get more smiles when I use the Disney card.:D

EVERYONE notices my Disney card. It's so shiny and cute. So many clerks fuss over it and I proudly say "WDW is my favorite place and I am earning Disney dollars!" I am also putting EVERYTHING on the card. It's more convenient than debit and all my receipts are going into a special envelope with Mickey on it. I will check the bill once monthly to make sure it is right, then pay it in full. I am hoping to earn $10 to $15 a month, which adds up. We never fly, so I have never had a reward card and I am thrilled.

PS -- I think the poster who is using the card for travel expenses abroad to pick up her new daughter, should win the "coolest thing to do with the Disney card" award. Congratulations! She'll be a Disney fan in NO time!
