I have the Disney Visa credit card and just ordered the Disney Rewards Redemption Card. It seems to me that I can use it like a gift card when we go to WDW in November.
I'm hoping to use it at either Cape May Cafe or Hoop Dee Doo Review. Would that be possible?
I'm just wondering if there are any restrictions on using it that I'm not aware of.

Thanks

Yes. You can use it like a gift card.
I know of no restrictions, but I could be wrong. I have yet to have it turned away for payment of something.

I use one when I go and have bought everything from snacks to paying for a full dinner with it with no problems. Including various souvenirs. I usually give mine to my niece for her spending money once I get the balance down to an acceptable amount for her to manage.

thinking of it as a Disney Gift Card is perfect. Any place in WDW that accepts their gift cards will accept the redemption card.

Wonderful!!
Thank you melana and dbavis.

If you use it at cape may cafe, you get 10% off. Be sure to ask for the Disney chase discount. :thumbsup2

We have free dining, so can I apply the tip only to the card? I have heard that they will not take Disney gift cards for tip only (don't understand why ).

I'm not sure about the policy on that, but if they don't accept it, you can use your magicband to charge it back to your room account, and then pay it off at the front desk with the redemption/gift card. We've done that multiple times. One less thing to carry or worry about losing.

This is how I plan to use ours, just charge to the room and make one trip down to the front desk.

Might sound silly, but remember to activate the card...

I don't know if this was off the cuff but i laughed because I seriously almost forgot to do mine this week! When the redemption card arrived in mail I just put with my Disney stuff and brought it along and didn't activate card until we were at the restaurant almost ready to pay. It worked fine!

Remember to keep the card even after it has a zero balance on it. It is good until the expiration date. You can redeem Visa Rewards to it without a new card having to be sent to you each time.

Another strange but sometimes useful tip: You can use the Rewards Redemption card to buy a Disney Gift Card at the Disney Store. I have done this so that I can consolidate the rewards card with the gift card(s) I plan to use on the trip. They can sell a Disney Gift card for any amount (I recently bought one for $53.37 with my rewards redemption card to consolidate).

There is a current list of restaurants on the Chase website that offer a 10% discount for Chase Visa customers, and the rewards card is considered the same way. So if you are paying with it, always ask your server if there is a discount. Many of the upper end restaurants may only offer the discount at lunch.

One trip we had problems at the front desk. They had just run all the charges onto the credit card and wouldn't use the rewards card as a credit. Luckily, we still spent enough money the next couple of days to use the rewards card! Not sure if the cast member at the desk didn't do this correctly or I just didn't understand. Maybe the rules have been changed? Since that trip I always use the rewards card for purchases before we go (like park tickets) or save the rewards card for one special meal and pay at the restaurant.

Hmmm. We've done this multiple times since 2012, and at different resorts each time, and never encountered any problems... it works the same way as a gift card (which I've also used in this manner as well). Maybe the CM was just unaware it could work that way? The only time I'd think it wouldn't be accepted was maybe the morning of your check out day, where they've already run your credit card to process your check out.
But definitely worth asking about at the next arrival!

When we went last April, we had the dining plan and paid for each tip with the rewards card without issue :)

I thought they would charge your credit card when you hit a certain amount of purchases? I could be wrong. If they had already charged your credit card, they wouldn't be able to accept a different form of credit unless they gave you a refund on your credit card, I would think.
