Ok, I have questions about redeeming Disney rewards- I've seen some ideas here for using them- we'll be at WDW in December, and I have points I want to bring with me. Should I simply request them, and they come on a preloaded card? If so, they expire, right? So if I got them now to use in Dec.,would they expire at the end of 2010 if we didn;'t use them all? (ha,not likely)
I've also read about turning them into straight up gift cards, how does that work? and what is the benefit of doing that vs. regular rewards? thnx:cool1:

I had leftover points that didn't expire for almost a year. Just transfer what you think you will need. You can always add more points to your card instantly. They come on a Disney Rewards card.

I think that the rewards cards don't expire for 2 years. Someone correct me if I'm mistaken.

I believe they are good for 2 years.

FYI, if you forget to redeem your points before you leave, or it's getting to close to your trip and you're worried that you won't receive the card in time, you can actually do it at WDW.

My DM did it in Sept. 08 at the DV booth at DTD. (There are also a few at the parks themselves.) They will give you an unloaded Reward Card and the toll free number to call to get the points uploaded to your card. :goodvibes

Takes just a few minutes.;)

can rewards points be used to pay for a WDW package?

I know you can do this if you book through Disney. When I went to pay on the site, it gave me the option of putting rewards towards the balance of the trip. However, I'm opting to use rewards as spending money in the parks.

I have a friend try to do this last month and they would not let her. I went ahead an ordered my card to be on the safe side. Just got it yesterday and it took about 2 weeks to received.

Do you know any circumstances as to why your friend couldn't get her card? I was planning on doing it when I get there because we leave in 3 weeks and I didn't want to risk not getting my card. Now I'm worried.

I recently redeemed some rewards dollars. The expiration date on the Disney Rewards Redemption Card is 12/11.

If you are concerned that you won't spend the entire amount before the expiration date of the card, you can use the rewards redemption card to purchase a gift card. The gift cards do not have an expiration date. I went ahead and did that and it worked fine. You can buy gift cards in $25 increments online and they are shipped for free.

Yes absolutely you can get your card at DTD or other locations in the parks. There must have been some other circumstances with the OP that they were unable to get theirs. You have to have a minimum of 20 points to get a card. After that you can transfer points in with a 10 point minimum.

Your Rewards Card will expire the end of December of the year AFTER you request it. So if you request a card now, the points on it will expire at the end of December 2011.

Yes you can pay a WDW package (or room) with your Rewards Card, even if it's not booked through WDW. I booked through an independent TA once & they were able to use the Rewards Card for my deposit.

I dont remember the specifics.. I asked her to come her and let you know.. shes a dis board member.

Just to clarify...I can use the reward card to purchase tickest at the ticket window? I just requested a reward card (first time), so I don't need to transfer this to a gift card? Correct?

Thanks!

Correct! You use the Rewards card just like a credit card until your points are used up.

Since you are going in December, you have time to get a card. I would order the card now from the Disney rewards website. Then after you receive it you can transfer how many dollars you want to it before you leave. You have to transfer a minimum of $20 with each transaction. Transferring additional dollars can be done by phone and is effective pretty quickly. The cards I have ordered have normally been good for two years.

Is there any fee to use the rewards card to buy GC? I just want to be sure I'll still have the use of the funds if I try this way.....

I just ordered my rewards card yesterday. I am using it with my GAD tickets to upgrade to 10 day no expiration tickets. I am going in august and will transfer any additional points over (if I have any) right before I leave.

Small correction: The first time you order a rewards card it must be loaded with at least 20 points. After that, you can add to that card in $10 increments. Also, any card you get after that only has to have 10 points to get the card. I just ordered one this way the other day.
