Ok, this is admittedly just a rant and will probably be removed. Nonetheless I venture on... Does it annoy the living daylights out of anyone else that any time you ask a simple question on this board there's the very distinct possibility of 1) someone making some off-the-cuff snotty comment 2) the conversation turning to an all out criticism of the original poster? Now, I will readily admit that I only hang out on the Disney Restaurant board, so I don't know what goes on in other forums. However, since this board deals with food and therefore inherently with etiquette, I would like to suggest something to those who didn't pick this up from childhood: IF YOU DON'T HAVE ANYTHING NICE TO SAY, DON'T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL. Lastly, since I know that this topic in particular will attract just those sorts of people, thanks in advance for proving my point. :earboy2:

IMHO, the majority of the people here on the boards are a rather nice and helpful bunch. Your always going to get mean nasty people no matter where you go.

WOW, I don't feel that way at all. I love this section because people seem SO helpful and nice. Sorry you have had a bad experience.

Or, you could interprete some responses as "ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer"................ :confused3

The reality is there was a point in ALL of our lives when we didn't know all things Disney. So we all ask questions. If certain questions have to be considered "stupid", that's being a bit rude. None of us were born with an innate knowledge of the world...so we all have to learn. We learn by asking questions. There's no purpose, except the purpose of showing off how rude one can be, by responding with insulting or flippant comments. All it does ismake that responder look like the fool...not the person who originally asked the question. The way I view it, responses like that are onlymade because the person wants to draw attention to themselves...they like the drama, they like the spotlight. And the only way people will give them that desired spotlight is by posting in such manners. My advice? Don't feed the trolls. They like the "sound of their own voice", so please don't hand them a megaphone.

Actually, I have found the same thing to be true on another site having to do with photography. The purpose is supposed to be to help each other out with whatever questions people have, As soon as someone asks a question that the "pros" think is stupid, they respond with degrading remarks. Most people are only going to post a question if they are truly looking for a helpful response. Fortunately, most of the responses on this site seem to be friendly and helpful - at least that has been my experience so far.

My overall impression is that on the restaurant board, folks are overwhelmingly helpful and friendly. Most disagreements are just that and I seldom see any personal rants or things like that.
All things "Internet" considered, this entire site is remarkably free of personal stuff. It does happen, certainly, but just go to almost any other site and see what goes on. I'm on a Geroge Armstrong Custer site a lot, and Mrs U is a member of a major Frank Sinatra site. You ought to see what goes on in those places!!!

As a moderator, when I was assigned the Restaurant Board, I was very happy because I have always found this to be one of the more fun, light spirited, friendly boards. And in moderating it, I have found only a few times Ive actually had to deal with problems here. Thank you for making my job easy, everyone! :goodvibes

Overall the Dis is a place where people come to have fun and discuss/learn about Disney. 99% of the posters are here with good intentions and follow the rules. When someone doesn't, the moderators do their best to take care of that right away. We want to keep this a friendly place for all. We do however, welcome ALL opinions, good or bad.

If at any time you have a problem with a post, on any board, feel free to "report it to a moderator" and someone will take a look at it and decide if it's appropriate or not.

I have had a completely different experience. I find that people are extremley polite. I know at times when a snide remark has come to my mind I have suppressed it but it did not seem appropriate for the boards.

I have found that most people are very polite and helpful....and please remember this is a public board so you will get the off the cuff remarks....

I feel the same as many others; I always think of the Restaurants Board as the "Safe Board", because I really have never seen any snide or rude comments.

There are no stupid questions. If someone doesn't want to answer an "easy" question, or a question who's answer may seem obvious, then just go on to the next thread. No need for anyone to get nasty. :)

I'm sorry that you have found the responses you've received here to be rude. I find that the vast majority of posters on this board are friendly and polite, and that they are very eager to share their experiences and knowledge.

I personally don't think that any of the questions asked here are stupid. I remember very clearly when I knew absolutely nothing about WDW trip planning, and I'm still learning new things all the time. I try to answer with helpful and accurate information when I can. If I don't have anything to contribute, I don't respond. This seems to be how most of the posters here operate.

I agree with Camcolt's thoughts on being a moderator on this board. It is a pleasure for me to be a moderator here because so many of the posters are friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to participate. We have very few reported posts and rarely have to step in to moderate.

I agree with most everyone else. I find the posters on the restaurant board to be a friendly and helpful bunch. I must have missed the posts you've seen. Give us another chance. :flower:

After reading some of your previous posts, you may want to practice what you preach

I don't think there's anything wrong with disagreements about the quality of restaurants, everyone has their own tastes.

agreed.

I haven't found any nasty responses on the restaurant board at all - now if you want a nasty response ask refillable mugs, pool hopping, 5 in a value room etc.

In my experience, I find that sometimes sarcasm or humor dont "come across" well on the boards. When the words are in black and white, without inflection or body language, sometimes they don't translate as tongue-in-cheek or witty.

I tend to have a dry sense of humor, and I try to read over my posts before I send them, thinking to myself, "Can this be construed as mean, or taken out of context as rude?" I've edited quite a few posts because of theat, but I am sure that some folks have been offended by a post or two, completely unintentionally :guilty: .

Basically, I am trying to say that there are a few truly rude and mean people out there, but the vast majority are nice people, and probably trying (not too successfully, apparantly) to be witty.

I find this board the nicest and most helpful. I am even on my good behavior here! ;) :goodvibes

Generally everyone on these boards are nice, every once in a while you will get the rude one. I just think they need more trips to the World to make them have a better outlook on life. Some people are just naturally unhappy and love controversy.

There are never dumb questions. You can never know everything about WDW, and although I have been there 11 times (which is nothing compared to alot of you) I feel like I don't know squat, so I ask alot of questions too. Please be patient with me!
