Disney Rain Ponchos?

I am so happy that I checked here first, before throwing mine away. I actually just pulled them out of storage for our upcoming trip and to my sadness 2 of them have rips at the seams.

Can I go to any store at MK or EP to get a replacement?
Do they sell them at the resorts?

The one that is not ripped, has a funny smell. Any tips on washing it?

We actually have a lot of luck with the cheap dollar ones.

I'm stocking up on Target ones; right now we have 3 each for our upcoming trip. We've never had an issue with them tearing or with water getting in, even in 2008 when Tropical Storm Belle arrived on our departure day (after a VERY rainy week.)

I love how tiny they start off; each of us can carry a poncho every day without much bulk.

Are the Disney rain ponchos a higher quality than the ones sold at Walmart/Target? We will be visiting during September and I want to bring some with us this year. I know it will be much cheaper to purchase the Disney ponchos before our trip than in the parks when it starts to rain :)

Just wondering if they last and are fairly tear proof or if we are better off just grabbing some at Walmart/Target.

That is kind of a trick question. Both Target and Walmart have several different styles. It appears you are referring to the emergency ponchos which are better quality a than the dollar store but not nearly as sturdy as Disney's. My opinion is that the fabric type with its own bag from Walmart lasts a lot better than the Disney one. Personally I carry the emergency type on days it doesn't look like rain and the heavier more durable type on days that rain is likely.

When we were on our last trip to Florida, we got caught in an extended downpour at Sea World. We had the cheapie dollar store ponchos. Never again. I will buy some to drape over the stroller but that is it.

I did just buy 2 blue adult Coleman ponchos with a mesh pouch from Target last night for $7 each. The children ones were more expensive for some reason so we just decided that if we need ponchos for the kids, we'll buy Disney ones, especially now that I know about the guarantee. My kids would like them better to have something Disney on them anyway.

I carry a backpack anyway so it's just another thing in there.

I bought the same Coleman ponchos (in the mesh pouch) from Target, except I got the clear vs blue. I am interested in how these hold up for you. We won't be using them until 2015.

The Disney ponchos don't last forever. We had old yellow Disney ones from the early 90s. They had Pocahontas on the back instead of Mickey. I was a little bummed about not being able to buy the Mickey ones at the time. Unfortunately over the years the vinyl dried out, cracked and they fell to pieces. Wish I knew way back them that we could bring them to the parks and have them replaced. I can just picture it now - dumping a bag full of yellow poncho pieces on the store counter!

I have the old school yellow one, and it was fine until I ripped it on purpose to let it breathe a little better.. I fixed it, I taped it with Mickey duct tape, now it's super personalized.. plus, it's yellow, so I stand out now, as opposed to before, lookin' like a pack o' ducks! (I also made the hood bigger because I tend to have my hair in a pony tail, and that pushes it off my face and I get wetter, so now, it works for me!)

They're sort of opaque, clear now.. I think it's because of 2 reasons, 1-slightly less expensive to make 2- mildly see through, so as not to allow folks to shoplift easily... you'll notice that they've also started making clear "Disney Parks" bags for when you ask for a bag and haven't made a purchase. I think I remember hearing a story (and I'm not reporting it as fact, by no means) but I think i heard something about someone being "attacked" while in the park, and they weren't able to identify the attacker easily b/c of the yellow ponchos.. I have no proof it's not just an urban legend, but it kinda makes sense, right?

so for those who claim they're too bulky after you've used it... I've found that folding it in half and again, in the same direction, and then rolling it up and securing it with a rubber band or in my case, an ever present hair band, it's easy to keep it small enough that it doesn't disrupt everything else in my bag.. I've taken it with me on every trip for nearly the last 10+ years!

Here's my slightly redesigned yellow poncho, rainy day, standing in line at Night of Joy last year selfie

They sold them at The Contemporary's mini-mart when we were there when it was raining.
