Disney Quest/WDW to stand alone...

Just read a press release that Disney has decided to scrap their plans to build "virtual" theme parks around the country. And since they are planning to close the Chicago DQ in early September, the only one left will be at WDW. The article said that they were not making enough money to be able to keep up with the "cutting edge" technology needed for these 30 million dollar ventures. There are no plans to close WDW's DQ, according to the article. Feel bad for the Mid-westerners who will miss an opportunity for a near-by Disney fix and for the employees. The bean counters at Disney must be very hard at work. dinah

They won't Close at Downtown Disney, Parking Lots always Full, and Disney Quest is also
included with some of the Hopper Passes (Depending on which pass you Buy).

Though we had planned to go to the Illinois DQ next year as my son got a little older, I had still heard horrible things about the place...ie: terrible, hideous service, disorganization, and not so clean atmosphere...

I seriously haven't been to any of them, so I don't know if this is founded or not, but if this is any indication of word getting around about the place, it's no wonder it didn't do great business...

I wanted to find out for myself...now I guess I have to go to Florida...DARN! (half joking)

I know the one in Chicago they picked a bad location for it - Downtown Chicago. It was surrounded by businesses, not anywhere close enough for them to pick up their main clients (kids). Whoever thought it out when the purchased (rented?) the area, wasn't thinking too good. Or perhaps they were thinking that it was Disney and couldn't lose.

The Chicago location wasn't too bad from a tourist perspective... it's right at the heart of all that other tourist stuff. When the location was picked for it (as part of the North Bridge project, which included Norstroms and ESPN Zone), it made sense.

I think what did it in, however, was lack of affordable parking, high prices, and (my personal opinion), lacking in quality show (minus the Pirates ride, which was pure Disney).
