Has anyone ever eaten dinner with the princesses at Akershus? Is it a buffet or is it family style? We've done breakfast with Cinderella at the castle several times before and wanted to try something new. :cheer2:

We had lunch and I absolutely recommend it.

The cold board is like a buffet- everyone can help themselves to it. It has salads, various fish, meats and cheeses, breads, crackers, butter. Then you order from a menu and you are brought your own entree. After dinner/lunch, your table is brought a very generous helping of desserts which is shared.

Look at allearsnet.com for menus and decide if anything appeals to you. We really enjoyed the lunch soup and sandwich entree. It was wonderful. (Best meal of the week!)

bump....

Would love more reviews and comments on Lunch & Dinner at Akershus!!
Also Princess interaction...

Thanks!

Ok.. we went last fall. I know that the menu has changed some since then. The cold buffet used to be served on a plate. They rest is the same I believe. So.. I did not like the cold plate AT ALL. It gave me nightmares and the willies. That being said.. my entree was yummy ( their version of a meatloaf.. I cannot remember what it was called), DD's entree ( grilled chicken) was good and the dessert plate was very very good. We loves the princess interaction. Cinderella twirled with DD and we also saw Ariel, Belle, Jasmine and Aurora. Was hoping for Mulan but we saw her hiding in China later. Despite the frightening cold plate we are going back this August. The restaurant is beautiful, the servers are nice although I think they are very confused as to what all of us crazy people are doing there, and the princesses are top notch.
:thumbsup2

We've been there several times. Mostly for breakfast and once for lunch. We liked it. However, we now go to Park Faire for dinner and some princess interaction. The main difference, to us, is at Akershus, we felt rushed. They sit areas in batches, and if you don't finish up as fast as people seating around you, it's like they're waiting for you to leave. But, there are more princesses at Akershus. Last Sept. 19th, for DD 6th :bday:, we saw Ariel, Cinderella, Aurora, Belle, and Jasmine. This trip we did not feel rushed as we had late lunch seating, and we were actually the last ones to check in for lunch that day. It was nice to be able to take our time.

We like the cold buffet. We ate at Akershus before the princess took over for lunch and dinner and it was one of our favorite restaurants. We still enjoy the food but we liked being able to have smaller portions, and as much as we wanted like they did before. The breakfast is good, we especially like the cinnamon rolls (DD :lovestruc these) and I loved the cheesy potatoes.

Akershus or Park Faire are both a good choice for princess meal. :goodvibes

Are the princesses there for dinner? For some reason I thought they were only there for breakfast so I told my dd we would see Cinderella at 1900 Park Fare but she really really wants to Sleeping Beauty, who is her favorite. I'd like to try and switch if Sleeping Beauty is definitely there. I wonder if it would be too late though for Sept.

Princesses are at Akershus for breakfast, lunch and dinner now. BUT you are guaranteed a certain princess. They are on a rotation. We did have sleeping beauty at lunch in June but we also had Cinderella, which I understand is not very common. We had Ariel (with legs posing for pictures), Belle (blue dress), Cinderella, Aurora and Jasmine when we were there. We didn't feel rushed at all. They took their time at each table and while little girls at neighboring tables stared while my girls were talking with the princesses, the princesses did not rush over to them. We really enjoyed lunch. The servers are really unobtrusive yet attentive, letting the princesses take their time. They even seemed to time delivery of the entrees and dessert around the princesses arrivals in each room of the restaurant.

THe princesses are there for dinner. We ate there in Jan. We did not see Cinderella though, we saw Arial, Princess Aurora, Jasmine, Belle, and Mulan. We were one of the first ones there for dinner so we had a mad rush of princess when we first got there and then didnt see them again while we were there. I think we saw all of them before we ordered our meal. The food was ok, but dont take my word on it because I am a picky eater. I had some pasta with pesto and chicker (if I remember correctly) and it was pretty good. Definitly look at the menu first, its very different venison stew and stuff. Not on my list of must do's but not a place I would complain about if the other 9 people in our party in OCt wanted to go. I did 1900 with cinderella a few years ago and that was good from what I remember

We ate there for dinner when we went in May. I was not crazy about the food but the look in my daughters eyes each time a new princess showed up at our table was worth it.

This dinner was our surprise to our DD5. We told her we were going to a special dinner for her and she could wear her Cinderella dress.
When we arrived we gave them our names and were seated within 2 mins. The place itself looks like a stone castle so when my DD5 saw where we were eating she got so excited even though she had no idea the princesses were going to be there.

We walked in and before we were seated my DD5 had her picture taken with Ariel in her ballgown then we were ushered to our table which was right next to the door where the princesses come out of.

Okay so my DD5 was so excited to see Ariel and that was all she could talk about until Belle walked out of the door. I thought my DD5 was going to fall out of her chair. She didn't know what to say or do...it still brings tears to my eyes thinking about it.. Through the evening we saw Belle, Jasmine, Princess Aurora, Ariel and Mulan.

On to the dinner. Our waitress was WONDERFUL. She explained the entire menu to us and we were able to substitute almost anything. You have the cold food bar which has meats, cheeses, breads, cold fish and salad (even though it sounds american the food was not what I expected). For our entrees my DH had the pasta but just wanted regular marinra sauce instead of the sauce they offered. That was not a problem. I ordered fish (I can't remember what kind) and it came with some kind of mashed potatoes that did not sound appeitizing to me so I asked if I could just have regular mashed potatoes and that was not a problem either. My DD5 had pizza and barely touched it. I tried it and it was good she was too busy with the Princesses to eat. I might try next time to go for breakfast but if we can't get in for breakfast we WILL go for lunch or dinner.

Our dinner ended just in time for us to go outside and see the AMAZING Fireworks. During the fireworks my DD5 gave me a huge hug and said "you did good mom". I will forever remember that evening.

Ahhh that is so sweet. Sure must make you feel good as a mom. Glad you had a wonderful time. princess: We are taking our DD4 there for her first character meal. She loves Sleeping Beauty so I hope we get the chance to see her. Just curious when was your dinner time? Ours is at 7:55 pm and I'm hoping we get done in time to see the fireworks outside (I'm assuming they start at 9 pm?) I can't wait to go and Sept. seems so far away right now.

We just recently did breakfast here. The food was good, nothing great. The princess interaction was good, but did feel rushed. They stopped for pictures, but didn't talk too much at all to the kids besides that. I was a little disappointed, as this followed up another character meal where the characters spent lots of time with us playing, and they even came around more than once. I give it a 7, but will not go back. I would rather spend my credits/money elsewhere.

Our reservations were at 7:50pm. They did start after dark but I can't remember the time... I am thinking about 9:30pm.. Our dinner lasted pretty long. The Characters were great with the kids.. they even stopped again to say good bye before they left for the evening. I would ask for seating next to the character entrance/exit. If you want to stand you can just walk out of the restaurant and see the fireworks.. Have a wonderful time.

Thanks for all the info about this meal. We are going for breakfast in Sept. We are taking our 13 mo. old daughter & almost 4 yr. old boy. Do any of you have sons that have gone to this? We are doing this character meal mostly for my daughter & am just wondering if my son will be bored. Also, do you see lots of the little girls dressed up there??

I've heard from others that a lot of the little girls are dressed as princesses. I know when we go my dd will be wearing one of her princess dresses. In case anyone is interested, at the Disney store this week I was able to buy a Cinderella dress for only $9.99. They were $25. princess:

I heard that Cinderella didn't show up at the princess meal at Epcot? For that reason I was going to schedule my character meal for the one at the Grand Floridian. I have three DD's and Cinderella is the favorite princess among them. Any info would be a big help! :)

Cinderella does not show up, so you will want to plan for the GF breakfast.

We were just there in June and about half of the girls are dressed up. I had ordered a costume for my daughter that was to be mailed to the room. It didn't make it on time, which I was really sad about. She didn't think anything of it though. There are enough that aren't dressed up that your princess won't stand out if she doesn't.

I definitely wouldn't plan this as your meal to see Cinderella, I think she is an added bonus if she is there but if she is the make it or break it part of the meal then I would not count on her.

I am taking my son who will be 5 when the day of our reservation comes along. I think he will be just as excited as my daughter (also will be 5). His goal at WDW is to get his pic taken with Ariel so while I am sure we can accomplish this elsewhere (MK?) it would be great if she is at our lunch here.

We did have Cinderella at lunch there in June. If you see Ariel in Norway, it'll be with legs. We saw her w/ her tail in Ariel's Grotto (right behind the Dumbo ride in fantasyland). The tips board said she was there starting at 10am, but she was really there at 9:30. We got in the line at 9:30 and we were able to see her within 15 minutes! She took a break shortly after that and when we had our ice cream snack at 10:30, the line was VERY long to see her.

My son was 7 and blushed alot when they wanted to kiss him. A few years back though my daughter was about 11 months old at the time, my son was about 4 and we went to the floridian for cinderella for him, he thought she was beautiful and thats all he talked about.

Hi there-
I just made my PS for dinner there and they told me that for our meal in August it will be Belle, Jasmine, Alice in Wonderland, Pocahantas, Sleeping Beauty and Ariel. The CM said that the princesses rotate, but these are the ones I should expect for our meal. We are going to hit 1900 Park Fare for Cinderella, because as of right now, she said we should not expect to find Cinderella at Epcot- just at Park Fare or at the Castle. Hope this helps!

I have a question: If you have been there for dinner, does Belle wear the yellow ball gown for the dinner? We went for the princess breakfast here last year and she had the blue dress on. Just wondered if she dresses up at night. DD has a Belle princess costume and we're wondering if they'll "match." Thanks!
