Disney Princess and Friends dinner at Akershus

Hi there-
I just made my PS for dinner there and they told me that for our meal in August it will be Belle, Jasmine, Alice in Wonderland, Pocahantas, Sleeping Beauty and Ariel. The CM said that the princesses rotate, but these are the ones I should expect for our meal. We are going to hit 1900 Park Fare for Cinderella, because as of right now, she said we should not expect to find Cinderella at Epcot- just at Park Fare or at the Castle. Hope this helps!

I have a question: If you have been there for dinner, does Belle wear the yellow ball gown for the dinner? We went for the princess breakfast here last year and she had the blue dress on. Just wondered if she dresses up at night. DD has a Belle princess costume and we're wondering if they'll "match." Thanks!

Belle was in the blue dress when we went last December and DD4 at the time wore her yellow Belle dress and Belle was so nice to her giving special attention to her because of her dress. It was special for her.

We went to the Princess lunch buffet and we all still talk about how scary the food was: lots of smoked fish and shrimp in various cream sauces, brown cheese, crackers. For my entree, I ordered "grilled chicken salad" thinking: normal food. Nope. It was a bed of cold cabbage with a chicken breast on it drizzled in some oily hot lime juice sauce with roasted potatoes.

The Princesses are nice, but I'd much prefer seeing them over breakfast.

I have 2 little boys 4 and 2 and a little one year old girl. I can't wait to do the princess thing with her I guess I should wait to do the princess meals so the boys can be tortured later rather than sooner. I would like to try the one in Norway but the menu sounded a little extream but after reading this board I will have to try it on our future trip.

We did not find the menu "extreme" at all, but perhaps it is not for those who don't enjoy culinary diversity. We live near a large ethnically diverse city and we found the food wonderful and not that unusual. The cold table had several types of herring and a brown cheese..but it also had Jarlsberg which is a very mild cheese popular with kids and as for the herring we have a Scandinavian background and have eaten it since I was a kid..not that bad really. The main course foods are quite simple and not scary at all.

We went for the Breakfast. It was wonderful, we truly enjoyed all of it!
The atmosphere, the Princess one-on-one table time with my 2 girls, for autographs & lots of photos!!!
Our family of 4 thought the Breakfast food was delicious, I tell ya' we couldn't get a memorable meal like that anywhere in Michigan!
Our girls were thrilled and can't wait to try the dinner on our trip in November! I enjoyed the family-style way the food was served to our table too.......we got refills on anything we wanted......The entire experience was wonderful, nothing bad to say ( And believe me, sometimes my DH is a hard sell)

My 2 DD's did wear there Princess costumes.......I would say it is about 50/50 on those dressed-up and those not.
We saw Mulan, Snow White, Jasmine, Sleeping Beauty, Belle ( Not Cindy ).
And my Disney Store in Michigan also had the Cinderella Costume on-sale !!
for $9.99. It was marked down to $19.99, and then take an additional 50% off !!! Gotta love that !

WE went this past March and had a great time.

The cold buffett is nice with an interesting selection of salads, meats, cheeses, bread/crackers and fish items. Nice segway into Norwegian cuisine. For entrees my husband had the beef and potatoes dish which was ok and I had the salmon sandwich w. soup combo. I loved it but I love Salmon in many forms.

As for Princess attention we received a very good mix of interaction especially with a curious one year old. She loved all the princess bling bling. And we warned the princess before they bent down......but my little one loved each one and they took their time with her. That day the picture pose session was with Ariel in her ballgown, with table visits from Aurora, Mulan, Belle, and Jasmine.

If your little princess has a love for all princesses then this is a great character meal to attend.

Katiebugsmom (and any others), I am glad to hear your one year old had a good experience. I just had a general question...was your 1 yr. old on whole milk by the time you went to DW or still on formula or nursing? I was hoping to have my DD on whole milk completely by that time (1 mo. after her 1 yr. b-day) but now I'm thinking it would be easier to keep her on formula one more month. I'm not sure how I'd keep the milk cold...I guess get a gallon, keep in the room, fill sippy cups every morning & keep in cooler bag??? Not sure, just wandered what you did. Thanks!

SLDL, When my kids were younger and we went I had them drink milk at their meals and carried juice boxes or sippy cups with juice for sips throughout the day. Juice isnt so bad if its a bit warm like milk. Our peditrician said there were plenty of other sources of dairy to get calcium from, like ice cream and cheese. If you are caring a small cooler bag you can always cut up cubes of cheese or have cheese sticks for the extra dairy.

I heard that Cinderella didn't show up at the princess meal at Epcot? For that reason I was going to schedule my character meal for the one at the Grand Floridian. I have three DD's and Cinderella is the favorite princess among them. Any info would be a big help! :)

As per my previous post, we definitely saw Cindy, for lunch, Sept. 19, 2005 (DD6th :bday: ) However, as stated also on this thread, no princess is guaranteed. But they do always seem to have 5. To definitely see Cindy I rec. Park Faire-it's our fav. princess meal now. And last year we were surprised by a visit by Sleeping Beauty, which, according to our server Michael, was very unusual as he hadn't seen her stop by before. Apparently she was at GF for another function. Lucky us! :goodvibes

SLDL,

I had not totally taken her off of formula and planned it that way until right after the trip. I filled a bottle or two of water from the room in the morning then grabbed a bottle of water during the day and then had my premeasured formula powder container filled and dumped them into the bottles as needed. However I also had baby food and was careful on some items that I ordered for myself as she had also began table food prior to trip. So feeding was quite easy and simple for this trip. Not like next one. At almost 2 no grabbing for a bottle then. LOL!

Also take great advantage of the baby centers. Nice place to get a away for a moment or two and regroup.

I definitely wouldn't plan this as your meal to see Cinderella, I think she is an added bonus if she is there but if she is the make it or break it part of the meal then I would not count on her.

I am taking my son who will be 5 when the day of our reservation comes along. I think he will be just as excited as my daughter (also will be 5). His goal at WDW is to get his pic taken with Ariel so while I am sure we can accomplish this elsewhere (MK?) it would be great if she is at our lunch here.

This is TOTALLY OT, and I'm not meaning to highjack the thread, but when I saw this, I just had to comment! This little guy is a man after my own heart! LOL! Ariel is my favorite princess as well, and she always has been ever since she came to us when I was 9!  At that point, I think it was an "older woman" thing...but now I know the truth....it's a red hair thing! LOL!

Alright, back to your previously scheduled programming.....

Until next time,
John

Re the question about boys at the Akershus breakfast. We went last year in Feb when DS was 3 1/2. He was in his Incredibles pj's and DD who was 6 1/2 was in the Belle costume I made her (she doesn't care for the 'scratchy' material that Disney uses on the inside of the dresses to give them volume).

We had Aurora, Jasmine, Mary Poppins, Mulan and Belle. Belle is DD's absolute favorite and made DD's day when she said "You're doing such a good job wearing my gown!" princess: DS fell in love with Mulan and asked her for a kiss. She left a huge lipprint on his cheek. :lovestruc

The food was okay. Reminds me of meals my mom makes back in WI.

The best part was that as we wandered through EPCOT, we ran into all five ladies and they remembered our kids. Each one stated "you're coming to see me again?" The kids were so excited that the 'princesses' remembered them.

Mulan remembered that she had told DS to leave the lipstick on (it came off ) and so kissed him again, with another admonition. He was thrilled.

He has told me this visit (later this year) he needs prince clothes for the princess meal so that all of the princesses kiss him!!!!!

We will do this more for the interaction than the food. Of course, after seeing Jasmine's unblemished, tiny tummy, you kind of lose any desire to eat!

We took DD's who were 3 & 6 yrs old & they loved the Breakfast Experience !!
Come this November, our DD's will be 5 & 8 and can't wait to try the Dinner Princess Meal this time around.......
The interaction with the Princesses was quite good....
My Hubby enjoyed the food and had tons o' fun chatting with the Princesses himself, and asking them questions he knew from the endless princess movies we watched......my girls thought that was so cool that Daddy knew what Prince went with who......
Joining us in November will be my parents and sister's family, with 2 Boys !!!
We asked if they wanted to do this Meal and both boys said, sure why not!!

Just wanted to thank those of you who responded about my questions re: milk & Norway for boys...really appreciate it!!

My in-laws are leaving this weekend for a cruise which will eventually stop in Norway (the "real" Norway). I told them we were eating at Akershus in September! Betcha they can't say that! :thumbsup2
