Awhile ago I saw a Diser post their jewelry made from Disney Pressed pennies and wanted to show off my creations too. It took two Disney trips to find all these and still wasn't able to get all that I wanted to get due to missing or not working pressed penny machines. I found the chain and rings at my local craft center and used a small drill bit to make the holes in the flattened pennies.

Bracelet laid flat - Has all 4 themeparks and Fort Wilderness Campground (our usual resort)

Necklace - Has pressed pennies of different rides and shows from each of the 4 parks.

Very nice work. Looks very smart. Is the necklace heavy to wear?
Is it difficult to drill the tiny holes? I don't have a drill, what might you suggest to use exactly? Tia

No not very heavy at all. They do sell a hole maker for jewelry at the craft store for I believe around $10 dollars.

Thank you for the information.
I might have to practice for awhile before I get it right. For I have not ever used that sort of thing before.

Those are fantastic! I was thinking about making a pendant necklace out of one penny for my DDs. That would probably be more appropriate for young girls, but your necklace is a great grown-up look! And I really love the bracelet. May have to steal that idea. ;-) Thanks so much for sharing!

I love this idea!! We have so many pressed pennies and keep them in an album but always when we go somewhere we buy an ornament for the Christmas tree. Sometimes we forget or the places we go don't have ornaments but might have penny machines. This would be a great way to make an ornament for a lot less than those souvenir ornaments we are always buying.

....how do you keep the pennies from tarnishing? Even though we used brand new shiny pennies, they've darkened considerably over time.

I learned that as they get dark just soak them in ketchup for a bit then rinse them off. Nice and bright again.

Ketchup? Hm....interesting, for it makes me wonder if I should eat that anymore. Lol
No.....really.

:faint:

super awesome idea! Now I wish I knew where all the ones I've done in the past are. I know I have some somewhere...

Great job!

Vinegar and little bit of salt will do the same thing. I just wondered if you treated the pennies with something before stringing them up.

Such a great idea! I know this would be something my mom would love, but I know she'd never wear it (she just doesn't wear jewelry) ... but I think you've given me an idea for a gift for her next Christmas. She'll end up putting it on display, and wonder why no one really seems to think it's as cool as she does, lol

You could spray them down with polyurathane. You'd want to do that before drilling otherwise the poly will clog the holes. I'd just toss them in vinegar and wipe them down once in a while.

Its a cool idea. I'm not a pressed penny fan myself because - well, they lie around in a bowl which is just about my least favorite thing. I'm not a scrapbooker, but they aren't quite flat for a scrapbook either. But this is a very nice idea of what to do with them.

Does your Mom do Christmas ornaments? I wonder if you could string them together in the shape of a Christmas tree? Or, even create a large diamond your could frame and she could hang. You don't have the "have to wear it" restriction.
