Thanks Alan! Yes, I did splurge the other day and picked up the Nikkor 70-300mm VR lens. I haven't had much of a chance to mess around with it, simply for the fact that the weather just isn't warm enough to go outside taking pictures (for me anyway). From what I've seen though I like it a lot! I'm able to take pictures with a 1/10 shutter speed at 300mm with little if no blur, hand held ... pretty impressive this VR system in my opinion. Yeah, I can't wait to really try it out this spring/summer. The only bad thing is my camera bag keeps getting heavier.

Yep Joe its a great lens. You might want to consider getting another bag to "walk around". I have a toploader walk around bag and it works well and fits the 70-300 + 50mm for those AK and evening shots. ;)

I know it's kinda crazy, but I've passed these signs TONS of times over the years.....only really took notice of them last month. Here's one....

Nice Joe- I like the color and B&W version both.

Also- Congratulations on the new lens. I love my 70-300vr. Here is a shot I took with it at 300mm.

Wicked shot Jeff!! :thumbsup2

I also love the 70-300mm VR lens. Here's one I took at the 70mm end of the waterfall in the Gorilla section of the Pangani Forest Trail at AK.

Joe, thats a nice lens setup you have there. You should be set for a good while with those lenses. :thumbsup2

Wow- 1/5 Second handheld at 70mm is very impressive. (As is 1/10 Second at 300mm Joe) Are you guys neurosurgens when not taking pictures or what? ;)

Carol,

What brand of "toploader walk around bag" bag do you have- I'm looking for something like that myself!

Thanks,

Alan

Alright, I'll add my support for the 70-300VR as well. Even though I did have to send it in to Nikon for repair, I still love it and I think it came back better than before. This shot was from back during Christmas. No where near the sub-arctic shutter speeds mentioned before though. This one was 1/320 at 200mm.

I took this at the Animal Kingdom on Tuesday.

I didn't take many photos while we were there. I was too busy watching my daughter's reactions to her first visit at that park. :goodvibes
