According to hiddenmickeys.org:

Along the roof peak and the trim of the collonade, there are wroght iron "people" in a pattern of Tall, Short, Tall, Short. There are 999 of these, one to represent each of the ghosts [/URL]

Yes I took a close-up shot of the roof of the Haunted Mansion. Yes I'm a dork.

Does anyone know what the little "people" looking iron figures are that line the roof? I know that everything Imagineering does is for a reason, just wondering if anyone knew the meaning behind these?

Thanks Stephanie... I'm glad I learned some new Disney info today as well! I always love to share useless bits of trivia with the people I'm touring the parks with...

Yeah, he probably would know... At first I thought maybe it was just an ornamental iron pattern that they liked, but I remember hearing on more than one occasion that there are "chess pieces" somewhere on the roof or roof line, and I've never been able to find those... I can't imagine those are the chess pieces :confused3

Did you see the close up pics the front two pillars are chess pieces, they are the rooks (sp). The story is that the guy who was designing the HM was having trouble finishing. He happened to play chess by himself and when he went to eat one day some co-workers messed with him by moving his chess pieces and placing them on the blueprints for HM. He thought it was a great idea and if you look at the roof you will see all but one type of chess piece.

This guy is from the petting area at Rafiki's Planet Watch. I was told that he sleeps like this all the time. It's amazing that he doesn't fall off!!

Hi Number1Son,

That's a very nice picture.

If I could offer one piece of advice... it seems like you have the ISO sensitivy turned up quite high on your camera (judging by the 'grain'). When shooting outdoors in bright light, you might want to consider turning it down a bit in order to get a cleaner looking shot.

Thank you, padlock. I'm never quite sure when to adjust what. There is a setting for ISO in the "Manual" mode, but I haven't learned all of the adjustments to make with the new camera. I got it just 2 days before I left. This was zoomed in pretty far and set on the "Auto" mode. I've got to do some experimenting to find out what settings to use with the limited manual settings available. I'm really just a snapshot shooter -- home & garden & vacation -- so I can't really justify the expense of a DSLR at this point. I know some people say P&S is synonymous with POS, but for the most part I'm happy with the results I got with the old one -- I just have to learn the tricks with the new one.
