Disney parks closed until 2021?

They would likely follow a phased approach like Shanghai Disneyland and reopen just Disney Springs at first. It has been over a month that happened in China and their park is not open yet still.
I think the quarantines were more effective in China vs the US, I think their more draconian measures probably worked to their advantage. Sadly there is a video of workers welding an apartment door shut in China.

Here in the US cases are still climbing every day, so I think we still have a ways to go.
Likewise in the UK we still have a long way to go. Cases and deaths have levelled out to some extent but still no real sign of cases dropping off significantly.

Plus it's still impossible for most to get tested so the cases number is still meaningless.

Such a long way to go you would think, yet when I went out to the shop earlier you could easily forget there was anything unusual going on - loads of people about. The only difference was the amount of people out "exercising" was far more than would normally be out! People have just had enough of the lockdown. It's going to be such a disaster.

I was just going back through confirmed infections in the US, exactly 1 month ago we hit 82k as confirmed, right now we are at 936k confirmed and along with that almost 54k deaths.
I don't think the numbers are slowing down, unfortunately. Australia got their cases under control quite well it seems, I wonder what they did.

Nate Silver (data scientist) is a good follow on Twitter. While not an entomologist, he still provides some great insight on the daily COVID case, death, and positive case numbers - their trends and what they mean as well as some context. If you believe some of what he’s seeing with the data there’s actually a lot of reason to hope nationally we’ve slowed the growth rate and have flattened the curve. That said, nationally is only so relevant as metros are all on different timelines since their first reported cases and when they did or did not start stay at home orders.

I wouldn’t trust anything you’re hearing from China. The numbers they publish are outright lies.

I don't know if they be closed til 2021 or not. What I do find strange is Disney isn't denying they will be closed til 2021. You would think they would at least deny they are staying closed that long.

There have actually been numerous stories of people there in March who got sick, even one that lives near me. There were people who got sick at some point on their trip, whether that be at the parks, their hotel (on or off property), at the airport, on a plane, and who knows where else they could get it. However, I do think that if an outbreak occurred during that time that could be traced back (and they did trace numerous people who had been at Disney) we would have heard about it.

Do you have any links to the numerous stories you mentioned? Googling right now, I see a story about one guy who was there in early March and tested positive a couple of weeks later (and then later passed away). But that's the only one I can find, and it's not entirely clear how and when he caught the virus.

I don't think they would make release denying it while they are working on plans to open. I think you will see Florida residents in June and July and they will see how that goes. I hope it goes great, but I would certainly not be test guinea pig for them.

I think it's going to be later then that. They haven't even called CM's back yet.

If they did that on May 1, wouldn't that be enough time?
Shanghai have been testing processes and training their CMs for 6 weeks so far and still do not have a park opening date.

So mid july is probably the earliest now for whatever Wdw's first park open phase is.

Several people posted in one of these threads how they thought they may have had it. Unfortunately I cant remember which thread it was and finding the posts now would be quite a challenge!

I just heard on a national news channel that there was a big chance Disney might not open parks until 2021, has anyone else heard this?
As others have said, I just dont think this is possible. Everyone waiting with baited breath for a vaccine to this is, well, silly. Because a vaccine is not guaranteed to happen. And I dont think financially that Disney could swing being closed at least 9 months. It would certainly pretty much bankrupt Florida....its a state that needs tourism to survive due to having no state income tax.

I've said in other threads that this disease is something we will have to learn to live with. It will get easier as we continue to learn more about it. The antibody tests that are now showing vast numbers of positive infections with little to no symptoms is a GOOD thing, because it shows thos disease is not nearly as serious and deadly as first believed.

But society will have to move on - soon. I suspect Disney will be a leader in this.

I agree but IMO learning to live with this means social distancing will around for a long while.

Not necessarily.

We as a society have learned a ton about this disease in the last 6 weeks. We'll learn more in the next 6 weeks.

The conversation has already started turning from lockdowns to the opinion that the best way to avoid this virus is to be outside.

We're already on the backside of this. We will soon have therapies and medicines to help deal with this. Testing will be very common and widespread. Maybe some social distancing will be taking place in the coming weeks, but just like lockdowns, that is not sustainable over a long period of time.

Social distancing doesn't mean stay at home. Social distancing means keeping 6 ft from others. That I think will be the new normal til there is a cure or vaccine.

Even the numbers here are not accurate. There have been numerous people presenting with fever and symptoms, told by their doctor there are not enough tests and have not received orders for testing, only been told you are "presumed positive" and not all residents in the nursing homes are tested, nor are their families told.

I just saw them randomly in emails I get with news stories and online, I know the one man from Ringgold GA. (in his early 20's) has been talked about in my area because he was in an article, but I don't remember where exactly I actually read it. I know several people are mentioned in one article about the man who died after his early March trip, but it's been several weeks since I read any articles about them and I don't know where I would find them since I usually just stumble across them while I read the news as I drink my coffee.

You can make reservations at WDW for June 1. That's a pretty strong denial, IMO.

WDW could have just stopped accepting reservations of any kind for the rest of the year if a closure of that length was seriously on the table. I don't think its feasible from a business point of view, and it would crush Florida. Because if WDW stays closed, so does Universal. And every other park and resort in the state.

They can't comment on it actually. If they deny it, and then they are closed that long, there will be shareholder lawsuits. It's best for them to not say anything, because honestly, they don't know when they are going to open yet either. They have some plans in place for different scenarios, but they don't know.

He came from LA, so it's very likely that he caught it there. He was already very sick and coughing up blood by the time he flew back to LA. I think he was in Florida for a about a week and a half. He pretty much immediately sought medical care when he arrived in LA and already had pneumonia. He was in the late stages of the disease at the point and had mitigating health conditions that could have sped up the course of the disease.
