Disney parks closed until 2021?

You can make reservations at WDW for June 1. That's a pretty strong denial, IMO.

WDW could have just stopped accepting reservations of any kind for the rest of the year if a closure of that length was seriously on the table. I don't think its feasible from a business point of view, and it would crush Florida. Because if WDW stays closed, so does Universal. And every other park and resort in the state.
Disney has been tight-lipped about everything so far. Where as Universal put out some information on what measures will most likely be put in place.

Many businesses are asking for immunity from coronavirus lawsuits in Florida. If something like that does happen, it could change how Disney approaches the reopening. I'm sure legal ramifications are a primary concern. If feel that if you go back after it opens, you are accepting the risk that someone might give it to you. That pretty much goes for going anywhere in public now. Disney wouldn't be immune to prosecution if they knowingly staffed the place with people that were infected, but they would be protected in most other situations.

That's still doesn't mean physical distancing measures won't be put in place.

I agree. I didn't mean that there would be no changes. It would be hard to avoid gross negligence without them. But it could change how severe those changes will be and the timeline for reopening.

Big "if" on it happening. I'm leaning toward "doubtful".

I would like to note that during my trip to Disneyworld in 2017 I got a cold on the plane. I got over it and then got violently sick on my second to last day. I lost a day at the parks and spent the day vomiting monstop from the time I woke up until 9 p.m. All day on the bathroom floor. No joke. It was violent. So, no matter how things are perceived as safe there is always something that you can catch at Disney. i.e.. the famous Disney rash.
And there are things you can catch anywhere. It was a running joke within my family while me and my sister were growing, whenever we took the yearly big two week road trip, my sister would get sick. Some of our road trips including going to Washington DC, spending several days at the Smithsonian museums among other sights.

Don't quite understand the "famous Disney rash". I used to go to Disney 4+ times a year and never got a rash. Haven't really read about it here. Is it something similar to a heat rash?

It’s vasculitis, and it’s not communicable. From increased blood flow to legs from all that walking and standing. I get it every Black Friday... :crazy2:

I usually get a severe case of it on my left hip...from pulling my wallet out of my back pocket so often during the week we're at Disney. Too many uncontrollable repetitions of pulling it out and putting it back in gives me an unbelievable case. (Apologies to the Thread Police...)

And if Disney it's not putting any physical distance plan out it's up to you, to still practice it. Just because Disney doesn't tell me to wash my hands after going to the restroom I didn't do it, I did. (Fyi wash your hands for 20 sec signs were installed in all restroom in March) like i was surprised so many people needed instructions on how to wash their hands.

After reading the above, I'm thinking the parks should stay closed a lot longer. Getting down to single digit or even zero new cases some days locally simply isnt enough.

That's ridiculous. America isnt a small Japanese island of 5 million people....its a country of 330 million people who's economic engine fuels the world. You can't keep a modern society locked down for an infinite period of time. And its not the place for any of us to decide how Disney runs their business. If they feel its going to be as safe as possible to open the parks, they should be able to. Now, you may not feel comfortable going anywhere outside of your home for the rest of your life, which is your prerogative...but that doesn't mean the rest of us should be forced to stay home. And that doesn't mean Disney should be locked up forever either.

Let's say Florida and the partners on its task force come forward with a serious, thoughtful plan for opening Disney, Universal, and the many other theme parks and resorts in Florida in the coming days/weeks. Let's assume they shoot for June 1, the highly rumored date, and they put in place as many guidelines as possible to keep people safe early on, such as keeping attendance down, virtual lines, virtual check-in, and some of the other things being bandied about as possible scenarios for re-opening. Serious question for yourself and others who feel the way you do that society should just stay at a standstill: what will "waiting longer" accomplish? Right now, the only thing it would accomplish is more economic and social devastation. And the other question is, how long are they supposed to "wait"? This virus is here now. Unless it does a SARS and mysteriously disappears, its here for all-time. The one and only goal should be how we as a people learn to live with this disease, just like we have with countless others.

I'm sorry for having an opinion.

When this first started, the reason that everything shutdown was to flatten the curve as to not overwhelm the health care system. Continued Social distancing seems to be a pretty good way to keep in flattened in the near/mid term. If Disney can enforce this they should open. If not, they shouldn't. I don't think the question is going to be "is there a danger going?" it is going to be "can they put the safeguards in place to make sure it isn't a place for it to explode again". I for one think they can and will find a way to reopen safely enough to get people in without it exploding.

No we aren't til there is a way to treat people who get it or a vaccine. That is why physical distancing is going to be for awhile. You can open up things but just practice physical distancing. Its not that hard.
Rigid physical distancing is impossible at a place like Disney World. It's even impossible in a supermarket; you pass someone in an aisle? You just violated the social distancing edict. It's unrealistic.

Agree. The fact that we've been going to grocery stores and doctor offices and home improvement stores and crowded airplanes without this "exploding" in most areas of the country means we can take precautions, but still get go about our lives. Most people will take their OWN precautions .. which means that just makes it that much safer for everyone else.

Whatever Disney puts in place will make people "feel" safe, and reduce infection odds, but nothing (short of keeping it closed) will reduce those odds to 0. And with the virus not going away, how long should businesses have to "wait" for it be "safer?" There still isn't a clear or consistent picture of what "safer" is. Safer for who? Data already shows it is pretty safe (as in .. you won't die from the virus) for "most" people under 60.
